Thanks for the encouragement. I am glad I put in all the hard work to help get the ACA passed. At the time I thought I was doing it for those who had no insurance as I had it. A few years ago I was inquiring about what I thought was a bothersome hemoroid at a physical with my doctor. She asked if I had had a colonoscopy? I said no and she checked and said my insurance did not cover it and the hemoroid would not interfere with my knee replacement surgery. That was that. In changing Primary Care Physicians this year and facing an upcoming hip and knee replacement this Fall and Spring my new doctor referred me for the colonoscopy. Thanks to Obamacare it is now covered. The large polyp discovered yesterday may have been diagnosed earlier if it had been covered before. It was not a hemoroid like I thought so now I wait to find out if it is cancerous or not.

Hello there, Sjterrid! Thanks for stroking my ego…. πŸ˜€

I really enjoyed Mad Max especially since I rarely actually go to the theater to watch a movie. I’m a cheapo when it comes to paying for tickets…I’ll only go to an afternoon matinee ($5 bucks) b/c ticket prices have gotten ridiculous…you can download most movies in Blue-ray on a torrent site within a month of release in most cases. We do have these one theater downtown which is really cool because they serve alcohol and restaurant quality food while you’re watching a flick, but I haven’t been to that place in a while.

BTW, I agree….the flame thrower guitar dude was awesome πŸ˜€

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) is a federal program of the United States government to act as a way to reduce the damaging impact of imports felt by certain sectors of the U.S. economy. The current structure features four components of Trade Adjustment Assistance: for Workers, Firms, Farmers, and Communities. Each Cabinet level Department was tasked with a different sector of the overall Trade Adjustment Assistance program. The program for workers is the largest, and administered by the U.S. Department of Labor. The program for Farmers is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Firms and Communities programs are administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

It appears that the Republican House messed this TPA & TAA all up. The TPA that just passed is a stand alone TPA that’s different from the Senate passed TPA with TAA. So, the Senate will have to vote on the House TPA without the TAA. That’s just not going to happen.

      • 136 jziglar
        June 12, 2015 at 2:38 pm

Well Trade Promotion Authority passed which means that the President can get an up or down vote without the ability to add amendments to the Trade deal once its wrapped up and presented to Congress. TAA which is a program that helps displaced workers will expire in September and that failed to pass the house. At some point I think TAA will pass.

  38. 137 Debra
    June 12, 2015 at 2:30 pm

From my understanding is that the TPA deals with fast track but the TAA allows more Union influence on trade deals. is that right?

  39. 143 57andfemale
    June 12, 2015 at 2:34 pm

Really, who is dumber than the current flock of Dems in Congress? They defeated resoundingly a great provision of TPP that would re-train workers in order to scuttle giving this POTUS the same authority that every other POTUS has had in trade deals. But TPA PASSED?!?! And now they’ve defeated re-training of employees displaced by trade deals?!?!?!

Because what, you nimwits – you are going to “preserve” American jobs by scuttling growing markets? Do you think this is effing 1952?!?!?

  40. June 12, 2015 at 2:34 pm

This is really politically suicidal for Dems.

  42. 147 Judith Fardig
    June 12, 2015 at 2:48 pm

Originally, Boehner and the GOP had put a poison pill in the TAA (worker retraining authority) requiring offsets from Medicare to fund it, but I thought Nancy Pelosi had a deal with him to strip that out. Don’t know if that was what made her and the other Dems vote against TAA. If not, they’re insane.

    • 148 57andfemale
      June 12, 2015 at 3:04 pm

Thanks, Judith. I did not know about this wrinkle. That does change my perspective on what happened today, if this is indeed what happened. It certainly would be no surprise for Boehner or McConnell to break their word – they do it all the time. But statements are flying around fast and furious and who really knows where the truth is? I even got an email from Adam Green (no, I don’t know why I haven’t unsubscribed yet), screaming victory that “progressives” had defeated TPA. Now THAT I know is not true. But that is what Mr. 57 will tell me tonight. He has fallen for all of this b.s.

      • 149 Judith Fardig
        June 12, 2015 at 3:11 pm

I called my supportive Congressman, Earl Blumenauer’s office, to ask them to explain what’s going on with the TAA vote. WIll let you know what I find out.

      • 150 0388jojothecat
        June 12, 2015 at 3:51 pm

I heard there were a lot of poison pills to Medicare and ACA in the house bill which I would want the DEMS to explain why they voted against it….

        • 151 57andfemale
          June 12, 2015 at 3:57 pm

That would require that the DNC chairman gave a damn on messaging. If the poison pills are an issue, Dems should be on the tee vee shouting about the dastardly actions of the GOP to kill Medicare and hurt ACA. Instead, they leave a vacuum so it can all be about how ineffectual PBO is. Sure, maybe CNN won’t put those people on, but believe me, if they were making noise, if they were somewhat unified in a message, if they created decent “drama”, they’d get the mic. Using trade to kill health care for EVERY American and kill Medicare IS an issue. I get so angry!
