Makes me sad, too. I always try and imagine what would I say to my child to keep him or her safe? It’s horrifying the fear that parents and children have to live with because we do not have the courage to deal with this kind of institutional racism and violence.

[Hey GOP, time doesn’t go back. That journey’s done!]

Africa creates TFTA – Cape to Cairo free-trade zone

African leaders have agreed to create the continent’s largest free-trade zone, covering 26 countries in an area from Cape Town to Cairo.
The deal, signed in Egypt, is intended to ease the movement of goods across member countries which represent more than half the continent’s GDP.

Since the end of colonial rule, governments have been discussing ways to boost intra-African trade. The poor state of roads, railways and airlines have made it difficult.

Three existing trade blocs – the Southern African Development Community (Sadc); the East African Community (EAC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) – are to be united into a single new zone.

GOP is ready to turn the tables on truth. Is there any earthly reason why the DNC is never ready with a strong narrative, supported by the entire party? Just askin’.

Six African players have been released by their English Premier League clubs and are now available to join other teams without a fee.

Nigeria’s Shola Ameobi by Crystal Palace, South Africa’s 2010 World Cup captain Bongani Khumalo, from Tottenham Hotspur, DR Congo’s Youssouf Mulumbu from West Bromwich Albion and the Ivorian duo Guy Demel from West Ham and Yannick Sagbo by Hull City.

Champions Chelsea also confirmed that former Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba is to leave the club on a free transfer.

[This young scholar just makes me proud! You go!]

A young Namibian scientist has vowed to find a cure for cancer – one of the biggest killer diseases in the world.

Johanna Amunjela, a PhD scholar at the University of Aberdeen, in the UK, is among the first in the world to investigate the role that specific proteins have in how the disease develops.

Earlier this year, she presented her findings at the Genes and Cancer conference held at Cambridge University.

…is the next Marshawn Lynch…too bad the NFL won’t allow CFB players to enter the draft until they are a minimum Red-Shirt Sophomores. I also want him gone because Auburn plays Georgia every year 😀

[Great giggle! Some of the Tweets included in the article! Enjoy! 🙂 ]

John Cleese has called Piers Morgan a “real third-rater” after forgetting his name on radio.

The 75-year-old comedian, whose much publicised Twitter spat with Morgan has kept thousands amused over the past few days, told Radio 5 Live that the former newspaper editor was a “chancer”.

In a typically humorous exchange, Cleese also appeared to forget who exactly “this fellow” was.

“I’ve actually genuinely gone blank, what is his name…?” Cleese asked presenter Sam Walker, before bellowing: “MORGAN!”

“Piers Morgan, he wrote a piece in the Mail on Sunday and he called me a ‘something old fool’ or something and so I had a go back at him, because I’ve always thought he was a real third-rater, one of those chancers,” he told listeners.

I don’t know how long they will keep him under, but I am staying here until he opens his eyes. This is such a great family. Eveingeorgia, so glad to hear your son came through surgery. When you are with him, talk to him. He will remember, it id amazing what will happen when they wake him up. At least I am hoping he will be able to. My son was in a coma for 5 months and I talked to him and the nurses and people in the nursing home, he recognized all the voices, just no faces and got to meet them all eventually. Prayers with you all.

POPE FRANCIS’ BIGGEST STEP YET TO HOLD BISHOPS ACCOUNTABLE FOR ABUSE

Iber — in a brief public post on a story on the Miami Herald’s website — defended the officer’s response.

“He did nothing wrong,” Iber wrote in a comment that showed his Facebook picture, name, school and title. “He was afraid for his life. I commend him for his actions.”

Iber’s stance quickly prompted a passionate online response from Ambrose Sims, a black, retired Miami Beach Police veteran who joined the force at a time of racial strife in Miami in the 1980s. He also came out as gay and led a campaign for equal rights. Sims wrote, in part: “Such a comment reveals to me that you’re a serious part of the problem.”

Iber’s comment — which was removed after a few hours but not before being captured in screen grabs that were circulated in the community — also raised eyebrows in North Miami, a diverse city in northeast Miami-Dade where a majority of residents are black. The student body at his school also is 99 percent minority, according to state records.

[I like this part of his speech — “I want you to chase reality.”]

Christopher Nolan has discussed the controversial and ambiguous ending to his film Inception, which saw a spinning top rotating and wobbling a little before cutting to black.

Unsurprisingly, he didn’t just say “it was all a dream” and then drop the mic, but gave a more nuanced explanation of what it was intended to symbolise, during a speech made to a graduating Princeton University class.

He started off with a pre-amble about pragmatism:

“In the great tradition of these speeches, generally someone says something along the lines of ‘Chase your dreams,’ but I don’t want to tell you that because I don’t believe that. I want you to chase your reality.

“I feel that over time, we started to view reality as the poor cousin to our dreams, in a sense….I want to make the case to you that our dreams, our virtual realities, these abstractions that we enjoy and surround ourselves with – they are subsets of reality.”
