The GOP Loves ObamaCare. They Just Hate Admitting It

Dave Gilson: 20 Obamacare Stats Republicans Don’t Want You to See

• Nearly 30 million Americans have gotten health insurance under Obamacare.

• The rate of uninsured adults has dropped to 12.3%.

Percentage of insurance exchange customers who’d previously been uninsured: 57%

• Annual number of people who would be uninsured over the next decade if not for Obamcare: 24 to 27 million

• The Congressional Budget Office’s latest estimate of how much Obamacare’s subsidies will cost: $209 billion less than projected

Mike Corones: Mapping Obamacare Grants: Which States Got What?

Politics makes for odd sickbed funding. When Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his plans to run for president official, the announcement came with an awkward revelation: Cruz, who has made opposition to the law his signature, would have to enroll in Obamacare.

But Cruz isn’t the only GOP presidential hopeful to hold his nose and accept some filthy healthcare lucre. As this Reuters graphic shows, since 2010, Affordable Care Act (ACA) grants have doled out varying amounts to states, from less than $10 million to over $500 million. Some of those grants have gone to some surprising places: A Reuters exclusive from Andy Sullivan reveals that Governors Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Chris Christie of New Jersey, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and former Texas Governor Rick Perry collectively applied for and won at least $352 million in ACA grants.

Electing this president is the best thing this country has done in quite awhile.

Just watched the ACA speech posted earlier. I shudder to think where we would find ourselves today if we had NOT elected barack obama as president.

Very very random and unrelated remark but argh for shortening Secret Service into SS. *German cringe*

It’s interesting how over the pond, SS conjures up that imagery, but here, when we see SS – what pops into mind is either Social Security or Secret Service.

      • June 9, 2015 at 3:28 pm

Unterstood. Meanwhile here, in a country where you can choose part of your licence plate (which is: one to three letters for city + 1 or 2 additional letters + 2 or 3 numbers” you are not allowed to use “SS” as the choosable letters even 😀

I saw a car with an older woman in it yesterday. On the back of her car she had bumper stickers that said: “Resist Obamacare” (which I found humorous) and “I’m Catholic and I vote” Can we all assume then that she WANTS PEOPLE TO DIE??

This letter is so touching and so apropos for this Post. Thank you NW for keeping Obamacare front and center!
Read the Original Letter Written by the Pennsylvania Woman Whose Story the President Told Today:

Today, speaking from the Catholic Health Association’s annual assembly in Washington, D.C., President Obama outlined the state of health care in America, now that the Affordable Care Act has become part of the fabric of our health care system. In it, he told the story of Debra Lea Oren of Palmer, Pennsylvania. Debra, who suffers from osteoarthritis so severe it put her in a wheelchair, couldn’t walk or stand for years. She was in constant pain.

Today, she’s back on her feet. Here’s why:

Debra was able to enroll in an affordable health plan that covered the surgery she needed to help her walk on her own again. As a result, she can walk to the grocery store. She can cook and exercise. She can get herself to her doctors’ appointments on her own two feet (and two new knees).

“I walk with my husband Michael and hold hands,” she wrote to the President in February. “It’s like a whole new world for me.”

My boss goes on vacation thursday. I have a long story I’ve been meaning to share about the stupidity and ignorance surrounding ACA. I blame the DNC. They should have known that if they informed people, didn’t let the Democratic naysayers run the show, and really sell this law, everything would have been different.

I know how she feels as I have had one knee replaced and am now facing a hip and knee replacement on the other side this next year. If they are not replaced I would go from my cane to a walker then a wheelchair in no time. It is hard work recovering, but more than worth it to have some normalcy.

Well, this was just cringeworthy. What a spectacle. It epitomizes all that is wrong with the WHPC. Of course, there had to be something nefarious about the Secret Service handling of the bomb threat. The search for some negative angle was paramount. All I could do was shake my head at the flurry of inane questions. And the crocodile tears from Jon Karl about the ‘network owned cameras’ being turned down was pathetic. What a bunch whiny babies.

Most Americans should know by now that Republicans despise ‘entitlements’ that they errantly consider is anything Americans receive; even if it is theirs to begin with. They hate the idea of retired Americans receiving their Social Security and Medicare after paying into them their entire working lives, and they hate Americans working at slave-wage jobs receiving nutrition assistance because they earn too little to survive. What they do not hate, and indeed fight ferociously for, are taxpayer-funded entitlements that go to corporations in the form of tax loopholes and particularly entitlements for the oil industry in the form of subsidies.

According to the oil industry, the very idea of ending billions-of-dollars in taxpayer subsidies for the profitable industry is un-American; a position that Republicans embrace with religious passion. However, it is not just Republicans that believe the oil industry deserves to be paid for being a highly-profitable business; the world’s governments are handing outlandish amounts of the population’s money to the industry that is driving the Earth’s climate catastrophe.
