Early Bird Chat

On This Day – Pete Souza: “Paul McCartney sings “Michelle” to First Lady Michelle Obama during an event honoring McCartney as winner of the annual Gershwin Prize. I knew this was a special moment but didn’t have a full realization of its significance until when I later heard the President telling others that his wife could never have imagined as an African-American girl growing up on the South side of Chicago that someday a Beatle would be singing this song to her as First Lady of the United States.” June 2, 2010

    How cool is this!!!!

The class of 2015 at Kahuku High and Intermediate School in Hawaii went out with a bang as they performed a choreographed song and dance at their graduation ceremony.

This is a ‘must read’ article by Spandan on the unions intention to spend enormous sums to defeat Democrats who support the President’s trade agreement. The unions have declared that they would rather have a Republican congress than Democrats who defy them. They are out of control and have turned into self-destructive bullies. I hope this backfires big time on both union membership and effectiveness. An interesting perspective in this piece is on the increased belief that shouting and bullying are the best way to communicate political stands. No facts, no efforts
at persuasion, just shouting. I have found this to be sadly true in meetings I’ve attended where union members believe that the higher the decibel level, the more convinced you will be.

In the 1960s, Teamsters and AFLCIO members were thugs who would viciously attack anti war demonstrators. Very racist too. I thought Dpandan’s mention if SEIU as more progressive was interesting.

        GM everyone…

SEIU has been in the forefront of helping to organize low wage workers…i think that gives a different perspective….Trunka..has rubbed me the wrong way on many occasions re: the President

Good morning TOD. I read that article with increasing dismay. It clears things up for me.

The Unions, Ed Shultz, all say they are for the ordinary working person and then they work as hard as GOP to oppose PBO.
I’ve long wondered what they were up to.
This article says what I would have thought impossible until 6 months ago.

WASHINGTON, D.C. โ€“ As part of President Obamaโ€™s Climate Action Plan to cut carbon pollution and create clean energy jobs, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today announced the approval of the first three solar energy projects to benefit from the streamlined permitting process of the Bureau of Land Managementโ€™s (BLM) Western Solar Plan. When built, the three solar energy projects on public lands in Clark County, Nevada, will generate up to 440 megawatts of energy โ€“ enough electricity to power roughly 132,000 homes โ€“ and are expected to create up to 1,900 construction jobs.

The Western Solar Plan allows for a more efficient and predictable permitting process by focusing development in solar energy zones with the highest resource potential and lowest conflicts. The expedited reviews of these three projects were completed in less than 10 months, or less than half the amount of time it took under the previous project-by-project system. These reviews also include consideration of the first regional mitigation strategy for solar energy zone projects.

โ€‹Washington D.C., (May 29, 2015) โ€” The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) today announced the release of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund (MBCF). Proposals are due July 15, and the full RFP can be found here.

The MBCF was established earlier this year to protect, conserve and increase habitat for these iconic insects as well as other pollinators.
