Chat Away

@POTUS: An honor to address the Coast Guard class of 2015. Confident they’ll help us meet big challenges like climate change.

I have an important decision to make.

What should I get for lunch?

    • May 20, 2015 at 2:34 pm

      Fries and a gravy sandwich!

      • May 20, 2015 at 2:36 pm

        Is this an Irish delicacy?

        • May 20, 2015 at 2:38 pm

It should be – look at how delicious it is!

          • May 20, 2015 at 2:53 pm

I mean, what twisted, perverse mind would even think about this concoction?

Well, have you ever been to an Irish restaurant? No? Possibly because no one has because the Irish don’t know how to cook; whatever they make is stolen/borrowed from another culture. And I can say that being 100% Irish American. 🙂 My Mother was an amazing cook but I discovered later that it actually was all German and Norwegian and Swedish dishes she was making. Years ago, my boyfriend came home one day and exclaimed that he had eaten lunch at the most amazing, delicious Irish restaurant here in Chicago. I looked at him quizzically because I had never been to one and he went into great detail about all the different potatoes they had on the menu, etc. etc. Finally I was like “Where is it???” to which he confessed he was just messing with me.

          Perhaps “follow” doesn’t mean “read.”
Or “give a f— what person is tweeting”
“follow” in this context might mean “paid for.”

Can someone please explain to Rand Paul what a filibuster is ?

He is currently on the floor yapping about the Patriot Act and trying to raise money from an e-mail claiming he is filibustering …

    He is NOT….

A ” filibuster ” can only be done when it relates to a Bill that is currently being debated and in the process of getting a vote.

There is NO debate and NO vote pending on the Patriot Act at this time

I am glad that the Israeli Bus Segregation plan has been stopped, for now, at least.
How about the Israeli Road Segregation?
    That is okay??
    Not to me.

It is Segregation, not security, when Israelis whiz along on sleek well-lit roads and Palestinians are crushed in traffic on unpaved and unlit side roads.
We need more outrage and consequential change in Israel. soonest.

So agree Vicki. We are actively and financially supporting a monster dictator and those poor Palestinians are enslaved in Israel’s prison with the world looking the other way.

      It has been cancelled…than goodness

JERUSALEM (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday canceled a plan that would have banned Palestinian laborers from riding on the same buses with Jewish settlers in the West Bank, just hours after it was announced — an embarrassing about-face that reflected the tensions enveloping Israel’s new government.

The inauspicious start for Netanyahu’s hard-line government illustrated the difficulties that loom as it tries to advance a pro-settler agenda in the face of rising global outrage and domestic criticism.

The reversal came as the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, was in town. The EU has taken a tough stance against settlements built on lands claimed by the Palestinians.

As the bus plan was unveiled, Israeli critics across the political spectrum derided it as racist, with one opposition politician comparing it to “apartheid.” Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, a member of Netanyahu’s Likud Party, called the plan “unthinkable” and said there had been “great damage” to Israel.

PBO = Joy + Inspiration for all time. We here at TOD already know how much we will miss him, and MO, but we will still walk with them and The Obama Foundation. All those who refuse to see and acknowledge how much he has done, how much he continues to do, will have the emptiest lives beyond their own imagination. They will be fraught with despair when they can no longer harass him. He and Michelle, meanwhile, will continue on with the work they were born to do.

Nebraska lawmakers voted to abolish the death penalty Wednesday with enough votes to override a gubernatorial veto.

Lawmakers voted 32-15 on a bill to replace the death penalty with life without parole as the state’s highest penalty. Gov. Pete Ricketts (R) has vowed to veto the bill, but the legislature is expected to have enough votes to override the veto.

Well since they only need 30 votes to override….I think it will be assured, not ” expected “.

19 States now ban the death penalty.

    • 73 forus50
      May 20, 2015 at 4:33 pm

I was surprised Massachusetts wasn’t one of the states who still has the death penalty and am saddened that the state uses tax money to kill a person with the death penalty for the Boston bomber. I read that at over 60% of people in Massachusetts oppose the death penalty. It’s absolutely barbaric. We gasp in horror at other countries and their method for killing yet do it ourselves with what we consider a civilized state sponsored murder. Whether a person is shot, hung, stoned to death or electrocuted or killed by lethal injection, it’s all the same –killing. I’m so glad Illinois has abolished (or at least discontinued) state sponsored murder.

        I am confused…..

That was a Federal trail and verdict….why would the State need to pay for anything ? He is going to a Federal Prison.

I am curious though as to what method will be used since the drugs are no longer available for lethal injection…..

          May 20, 2015 at 5:05 pm

Linda, you are correct. My mistake; it was, in fact, a federal prosecution because he was charged with “weapons of mass destruction” which is a federal crime. Massachusetts doesn’t have the death penalty. http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/states-and-without-death-penalty

I think these prosecutions are largely racist. If the Boston guy with the strange name and Islamic beliefs was guilty of weapons of mass destruction killing 3 people then why wasn’t the the white kid who shot up the movie theatre in Colorado killing 12 and injuring 70 prosecuted with the same crime or the white kid who blew up those little 20 second graders in Newtown? The prosecution of a crime is still determined by a)what color skin and b) Muslim or not.

Massachusetts has not had a death penalty in more than 30 years; majority polled were against death penalty for the bomber. But a death qualified jury is not of your peers but only of people who would consider the sentence of death.
