The irony is that George H.W. Bush used to say that Jeb was the ‘smart’ one. Compared to what?
Compared to him!
Morning. Our President looks adorable in that bow tie, but then he always does. If the TPP votes take place today, there are going to be a lot of people with egg on their faces. Such a charming look.
Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Thursday morning. Congrats Don, on being first this morning.

I can post the pic, if you wish. Just say the word.
If you do, you’ll need to have BBQ tongs surgically removed from your rear.

Oh well, that changes everything 🙄

helpful warning from beebs: Some readers may find parts of this story disturbing. I wonder hoo.
Have you taken over as editor of the BBC site? Pythons, dead rats, swallowed tongs, pulverized frogs, etc, all in the one morning.
all in a day’s service, mam.
You know the way when people say “DON’T LOOK”, you always look?
Well, I looked.
Hate you.

Yes, and according to Calculated Risk, an economic blog I read, unemployment rate went down one point from last week
If it goes down 2 more points, it will be the Lowest unemployment in USA for 40 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
40 years. Longer than some of us here at TOD have been born. That’s what the socialist kenyan muslim has done to america. impeach.
Morning everyone! Been in and out…mostly lurking because, workingmyassoffandhavenotime. Anyway…this might be something to keep handy. Richard Mayhew over at BJ does a great job picking apart and explaining healthcare issues. I guess Tom Price has come out with HIS version of healthcare…it ain’t worth squat, but they have to pretend they care about real people not just big money corporations and donors…

Is it raining in SoCal???
OH! And that freaking flag pin!! I HATE IT! I seriously don not remember any of the screamers wearing a flag pin on every piece of clothing they own! So annoying to me….
workingmyassoffandhavenotime – Is that some kinda new video game?
I have no use for video games. I thought you might be familiar with the term:)
Good morning DF. Lite rain in some areas 😊
I hope it picks up for all of you. Hope it rains down like the business end of something! Nice soaking rains for a couple of days…not the gully washer kind that would cause mudslides. Don’t want to trade one problem for another:) Morning to you, GGail….
❤️
It started raining in my neck of the woods (near San Pedro) about half an hour ago and it is still raining!!!!!! 😀 😀

Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
Richard Mayhew over at BJ has two posts up about the ACA. I have learned more about healthcare from him than I ever did from the MSM.

Rebuilding the stool
Posted by Richard Mayhew at 7:34 am .
May 14, 2015
PPACA is said to be a three legged stool. The first leg is expanding coverage by restricting underwriting to be limited by age, geography and smoking status. Insurance companies can not turn people away due to their medical history or projected future medical cost risk. This leg of the stool makes insurance available to everyone. It also makes insurance more expensive.
The next two legs of the stool address the cost problem. The next leg is subsidies to enable people to afford the more expansive and thus more expensive insurance. This allows relatively healthy people to look at their post-subsidy costs and believe that they are getting a good deal from a personal finance point of view. The other leg of the stool is the mandate penalty which does two things. The first it encourages the marginal deciders who are on average healthy and low cost users to buy a policy as the net cost savings of not having a policy won’t be too large. Secondly, the mandate penalty/tax funds some of the emergency care that people who opt-out will use over the course of the year. It eliminates some of the free rider problem.
The mandate is not perfect in eliminating free riders nor moving all people onto the Exchanges as there are numerous exemptions and a number of special snowflakes who don’t think they’ll ever get sick until they do. The recent South Carolina handyman going blind is a good example of such a special snowflake. Shit happens, and insurance helps clean up. As long as the mandate moves enough people who are relatively healthy and relatively reluctant to buy an ACA policy without the final kick in the pants of paying something for nothing instead of something for something, it will work to keep the risk pools healthy enough to keep net premiums down.
The analogy is right but the details are wrong on the last part. That last leg has to be a participation enforcement mechanism that gets healthy people into the pool. An individual mandate is a type of participation enforcement mechanism but it is not the only one. If there is a negative ruling in King v Burwel giving up the individual mandate and replacing it with two or three year contracts with very limited open enrollment.

Thanks, rikyrah. Priceless.
Don’t know if this legit, but love it just the same. ❤
This goes with that:) I detest stupid people.

Oh yes. I know the story including that excellent post. Just not sure if picture is real or photoshopped.
It’s a hoot!
I’m positive its not legit, but it sure is hilarious!
It’s not legit!!!! 🙂
Yeh. I know PBO “has no more f***s to give” as people keep saying, but wouldn’t see him going that route. Still… very funny!
Post 2 from Mayhew about a Republican Proposal
…………………………………..
Analyzing the Price plan Part 1
Posted by Richard Mayhew at 8:34 am
May14, 2015
Time to start reading through Republican healthcare policy plans again as they are coming out in droves. These plans have massive distributional, operational, financial and moral implications. I’ll start looking at Rep. Tom Price’s plan HR 2300. Today, I’ll describe the basic workings. I’ll look at the distributional impact of the subsidies compared to current baseline tomorrow.
Price’s plan first repeals everything associated with the medical side of Obamacare, so the student loan reform stays in place. This means a full repeal of the three legged stool of community rating, subsidies and mandate, it means re-allowing insurers to discriminate based on health status, it means the rates for a medically underwritten 64 year old could be a dozen times higher than the rates for a medically underwritten 19 year old male. Medicaid expansion disappears. It is a reversion to 2009 status quo.
So how does he “solve” the health insurance problem? Why with tax deferred savings vehicles — they do everything but solve the actual problem.
The next chunk is a refundable tax credit that varies on age as he contends age is a simpler criteria than income. This has interesting distributional effects. In the name of Freedumb, he allows people who have Medicare, VA, Tricare or other government health care to decline that high actuarial value care to shop for their own individual coverage with their inadequate tax credits.
Everyone then gets a $1,000 one time deposit to a new HSA. HSAs are further enhanced within the tax code and high deductible health plans are renamed HSA eligible health plans (a critical policy achievement here). HSA contribution limits are increased to IRA contribution limits.

He needs to pay back the $83 grand in hotdogs he eat at Jerry’s world.
Good Morning BFF and TOD.

The sausage factory stuff behind the Dems position on trade:
Schumer at Center of Democrats’ Trade Drama
http://blogs.rollcall.com/wgdb/schumer-at-center-of-democrats-trade-drama/
And I’m glad to see that it was Sherrod Brown who pushed for bundling all 4 bills into one and he FAILED big time.
These guys have been around far too long.
I won’t hold my breath waiting for the incompetent media to report on this ” stunning failure” of Sherrod Brown.
The only silver lining in this mess is that PBO gets to hand off these ridiculous hardliners to someone else in Jan 2017.
My Man Joe knows how to soothe the feathers of ruffled outraged Senators. 😉
Did Ben Carson’s teeth really fall out? I miss all the fun.
From what I heard they either came out when he was eating or when he was talking to someone. It reminded me of Jeff Goldblum’s Character in the “The Fly”.
You mean he is turning into mulch? How does one lose a tooth eating scrambled eggs? You would think someone like him would notice his teeth are loose. If you can’t take care of your body, seeing a dentist regularly how the hell can you run the United States of America?
GM DF, 100% chance of rain forecast here today! Woot!!!
Probably on it’s way to your neck of the woods for the weekend…

Re: TPP
He was spot on. McConnell caved and the Dems rallied to support President Obama – thus far. Of course the title is bullshit and you have to read a little ways down to see that the Dems didn’t vote for the measure because of McConnell. But we all know the MSM sucks and should be swept out with the trash.

Oh…boohoohoo…..
Tammy Baldwin is ” worried ” about what a trade deal would do to the residents of Wisconsin….
I think a bigger threat to the workers of Wisconsin is what her own Governors has done to them.
How tone deaf can she be….He made Wisconsin a Right to Work state and stripped away any worker protections that were in place.
You know they have to come up with something. Gawd I hate all this shit that is going on right now. They are all playing to their little bit of space and forgetting the big picture of the whole USA and the world. Ignorant assholes.
Forget about the trade deal, she should have been worried when the Governor was DP’ing Wisconsin.

Rand Paul Prefers to Let the Refugees We Created in Iraq Suffer and Die
We won the war in Iraq, why would we be giving political asylum to people to come from a country where we won the war? It’s one thing if you’re trying to escape Castro or trying to escape communism in Russia or Vietnam or somewhere else or China, I can understand asylum, but when you win the war, why would you give people asylum? And if the 60,000 coming here are friends of the West, wouldn’t you want that 60,000 to be in Iraq helping to form a better country over there?
If you let the better people, the people who like the United States leave and come here, then aren’t you diminishing the numbers of folks that would make that country a better place to live? So I think the whole idea of resettling 60,000 people from Iraq over here was a mistake. But I also think that the refugee program as well as the student visa program are some of the highest risks for us to be attacked.

Republicans are INSANE !
The clueless nut (we won the war???) simultaneously thinks they are better people (whatever that means) as well as terrists. Amazing how the dems keep losing to such lunatics.
Woot !
Former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) announced on Thursday that he will run for Senate in 2016.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/russ-feingold-running-senate-2016
Bye Bye Ron Johnson………
A blast from the past!
ah, saint russ. the very first casualty in purity patrol.
What a clownshow, fueled by our ridiculous MSM.
This article outlines the headaches facing GOP trying to decide on debate participants, LOL:
“There are 19 Republicans seriously considering launching campaigns for president, and 10 numbers on a phone. That causes a big problem for pollsters using automated polling technology, one of the most common forms of public polling.
Thus, when GOP officials gather in Arizona this week to tackle the vexing question of how to decide which candidates are allowed to participate in party-sanctioned debates, they won’t be able to easily fall back on the most logical way to winnow the field: polling.”
Hoping for monsoon of biblical proportions in AZ, stranding these fools in one place for a long time (locals are resilient enough to cope with extreme weather):
YES WE CAN!!
…….and Mark’s point is…….??????? I’d say the point is that GWB and RR rarely worked and spent most of their time idling.
Yes, but they’re not REAL jobs. Not JOBBY kind of jobs. They’re the other kind – the ones that don’t actual count!
This was not meant to go here 😦 It was in reply to the jobs report upstream. What I was going to say here was, good for Knoller at least adding those other numbers for context.
PBO works hard for his country.
GOP, not so much.
Eisenhower fascinates me.
this from folks who KNOW…trying to deliberately mislead
Good Morn-ting TOD Family!
Thank you so much Chips for the great photo of our President. It certainly brightened my day. It just tickles me to know that no matter what, Barack Obama always comes out the winner. Love what happened with the trade deal and love observing the heads of smoking hair left in the aftermath.
Today’s loser so far…Ben Carson. When a black man’s teeth fall out in a plate of grits…
On another note, tomorrow’s my birthday and hubby really came through this year all by his lonesome. I’m getting a spa day! Yippee!!!
Happy Birthday a day early! Oh, hell, celebrate all month! A spa day is the perfect gift from Mr. Dakota.
Thanks 57! This really is a perfect gift. He came up with it with no prodding from me, so that makes it special. I think I’ll take your advice and celebrate all month. Sounds good to me!
I love when they figure it out for themselves. It doesn’t happen all the time……Have a great day.
The only black Republican running for office and the guy can’t outfox a bowl of grits. Please somebody; keep him away from the oxtails.
LOL! If he can’t handle a bowl of grits, definitely no oxtails for him!
And please, don’t let him anywhere near a scalpel. Apparently he has already given up the only good he’s ever done. Maybe he left a set of dentures in someone’s chest?
Can you imagine what the other Republicans are saying about him, this (fill in the blank) can’t even eat a bowl of grits.
Woot! Early Happy Birthday Dakota!
Nice going Mr. Dakota! [fist bump and a hi-five] ;/)
