… Mrs. Obama is the second first lady in Tuskegee’s history to visit the university. Eleanor Roosevelt visited back in 1941.

Tuskegee University, founded by Booker T. Washington in 1881, is a private, state-related historically black university and is the only university in the nation designated as a National Historic Site. .. http://www.myfoxal.com/story/29021117/updated-first-lady-michelle-obama-to-speak-saturday-at-tuskegee-university

The emo-Frogs are opposing PBO’s TPP deal, not because they’re afraid it will be a massive failure that will negatively impact the lives of ordinary Americans, but because they’re afraid it will be a massive success that will positively enhance the lives of ordinary Americans. Cue ACA “kill the bill” redux…

Somewhat funny I think – most of us here had probably only been to, at most, 2/3 post secondary graduations before the Obamas hit the White House, and if you are like me you found them boring to the max. Now we are willingly, even eagerly, ‘attending’ 3+ annually! 😀 😀 😀

Indeed! And after 2016 it will probably go right back to the the low low figure. 🙂

So true VC. In fact I never followed a president or first lady on any of their activities before PBO and FLOTUS bi am now obsessed with everything the do and say.

I suspect your/our obsession will continue unabated in 2017. It’s not often we get the chance to see someone live an exemplary life, share love openly, serve willingly and with vision, all *in the public eye* and in the face of unrelenting, mean, and subversive obstruction. For me the Obamas are a living template of one way this life ought to be lived. I can’t ever be as gracious as them, but I can watch, appreciate, and learn. Woot, it’s great being alive in the Age of Obama!

Barack Obama’s commitment to public service preceded his presidency, and will continue long after he and the First Lady leave the White House. These are very, very nice … but I’m thinking our First Lady has earned all the degrees in life she’ll ever need … like a degree in human kindness, empathy, love of children, motivating others, standing up, speaking out, sitting down triumphantly, sleeping with a clear conscience, and learning how to have peace in your heart and, more importantly, sharing it with others who can never repay you.

And I have no idea where all that came from, except deep in my heart.

  16. May 9, 2015 at 12:41 pm

HaHa, Chipsticks! Am kinda laughing at rascal DannyO’ choosing to announce his ‘dominance’ at the kitty toy display! Perhaps you might consider getting a kitty, or borrowing one for a while – I guarantee you our Danny will learn the rules of the road in very short order, as the kitty sets him straight!! Think about it – I’m quite serious! Especially a big, strong, intelligent kitty like a Maine Coon (so I’m partial) – DannyO’ will become the model dog, and you won’t have to take the blame! _^..^_

Second this. I have both dogs and cats, and they adore each other. It is not unusual to see one of the cats rubbing on one of the dogs when they are sleeping. And the cats take care of themselves, all it takes is one swipe with those claws for the dogs to learn to be gentle with them.

He is also telling Priests to pay visit to Parrish faithfuls who had abortions and pray with them and forgive their “sins”…….another 1st for a Pope.

Illinois Supreme Court rules landmark pension law unconstitutional

The Illinois Supreme Court on Friday unanimously ruled unconstitutional a landmark state pension law that aimed to scale back government worker benefits to erase a massive $105 billion retirement system debt, sending lawmakers and the new governor back to the negotiating table to try to solve the pressing financial issue.

The ruling also reverberated at City Hall, imperiling a similar law Mayor Rahm Emanuel pushed through to shore up two of the four city worker retirement funds and making it more difficult for him to find fixes for police, fire and teacher pension funds that are short billions of dollars.

At issue was a December 2013 state law signed by then-Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn that stopped automatic, compounded yearly cost-of-living increases for retirees, extended retirement ages for current state workers and limited the amount of salary used to calculate pension benefits.

Employee unions sued, arguing that the state constitution holds that pension benefits amount to a contractual agreement and once they’re bestowed, they cannot be “diminished or impaired.” A circuit court judge in Springfield agreed with that assessment in November. State government appealed that decision to the Illinois Supreme Court, arguing that economic necessity forced curbing retirement benefits.

On Friday the justices rejected that argument, saying the law clearly violated what’s known as the pension protection clause in the 1970 Illinois Constitution.

so it seems that the city/State governments will have to find another way to decrease their deficits…ummm…what about raising taxes on those most able to pay…those who most often benefit from the taxes and such….what a novel idea that would be

What can I say about our First Lady? I am so dam proud of her. She is finally able to say how she feel, and yes the right wing haters will call her even more names, I don’t give a dam. She spoke the truth of all the B.S. she and her husband have had to deal with.

    • May 9, 2015 at 2:14 pm

And she had alittle bit for the left to who question if she is a true feminists, who said she should be out there fighting for something the feminists have fought for.

      • May 9, 2015 at 2:21 pm

Planting gardens, healthy school lunches is what she should be taking on. How dare she say the welfare of her kids are first and foremost to her? Proud of you Mrs. Michelle Obama.
