FURST. #onarollhere
I know I am fresh, but are they?
Bought them to celebrate VC’s 21st birthday, so quite fresh, yes.
so, everyone is like 21 now around here? /smh
#jealous?
I just turned 20..
I’m waiting for my birthday bouquet, young lady!
YOU MISSED OUR PREVIOUS WISHES ON THE LAST COUPLE OF THREADS 57….TEE-HEE!
I may have missed a thread or two – Mr. 57 and I polished off a bottle of champagne last night. He bought planters to welcome spring to our back yard. We have a stone statue of a rabbit with a bouquet of blue flowers and my name, Faith. It has always been our “Harvey” – the dog we rescued off the streets many years ago and is now departed. Mr. 57 taped a bouquet of roses to the “Harvey” statue. It was sooooo sweet.
Thanks to everyone for their birthday wishes. This was a milestone and I wanted to share with my TOD family!
57, what a sweet and loving gesture on your husband’s part. Sounds like you had a great time.
It was very lovely, jackie. Mr. 57 also made his famous homemade pizza. Doesn’t sound too festive, but it’s what we both wanted. And then an obnoxious birthday cake with a singing candle! But I don’t think you should be shy when you turn 65!
Through good times and bad, feast or famine, Mr. 57 and I find ways to make special days special. It doesn’t mean a lot of money – it’s thoughtful gestures that make me love him even more, as we near our 35th anniversary in August. He’s a wonderful husband.
57, I know the feeling of having the right husband. Thoughtful gestures are what make the days special and marriages enduring. I’m glad you’re one of the lucky ones.
We weren’t kids when we found each other. We met on the 4th of July, 1980 and were married six weeks to the day later. We are great together in a crisis – that is a secret to enduring marriage as well. We both joke that we will marry “money” the next time, but we both know that we treasure each other.
beautiful
Thanks, prettyfoot58.
Oh! YO! 57&Female, dear one: did you see my heartfelt 4:00am apology that somehow I thought I had forgotten to wish you HAPPY BIRTHDAY, yesterday. Odd, and rather weird, as I had been anticipating it for 3 days or more!! ❤ ❤
I always feel your good wishes and positive energy, my dear friend. You are a treasure.
I AM HAPPY FOR YOU 57…ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT HUSBAND…THAT’S A RARITY ANYMORE.
Is there a way us mere mortals can post a photo to TOD?
Happy Birthday 57! So that means you’ve been on blogs for 8 years, huh! Sounds like you had a most perfect birthday – best wishes for many, many more!
On your question the only way I know how to do it is save the jpg pic to my desktop and then attach it in a tweet and then post it here.
Yes! “57 and Female” was my answer to Hillary in 2007 that she’d better not take my vote for granted, and it didn’t make sense to change the name every year. And someone here – I forget who – noticed that my birthday is 5-7, so it works that way, too.
Yes, I was afraid I’d need to attach it to a tweet. Thanks for the info.
So glad you had a great birthday! I love Harvey the Rabbit because he’s your story. Enjoy your 65th year.
I am sorry I missed your birthday. Glad you had a good time. I am going to be 69 this September so you are much younger than I am. You mentioned HIllary and I was just looking at her picture. She was born in 47 and I was born in 46. I had to go look in the mirror to see if I had all those wrinkles. That lady’s face is like a road map and she wants to be President? PS. My face is smooth, I think it is but I do have bad vision. Near sighted in one eye, far sighted in the other. Happy Belated Birthday!
Thank you so much, misspat! Hey, Hillary looks better now than she did 4-8 years ago. She tends to show her age and exhaustion. The RW will make a big deal about it. The feminist in me will support her in this one situation: men are “distinguished” and women are “old”.
I’m sure you are absolutely beautiful, misspat!
rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ – keep those dawgies rollin’ (name that tune, anyone??!!) 🙂

Congrats on FURST, AMK! 😀
Good Morning, Everyone:)
BTW, that MenInBlack photo must be one of the most awesome ever!! Lighting is superb!
You’re right, MightyPamela. It’s right out of a movie set!
I think we can’t compare the Conservative party of the UK to the Republican party of today. One is actually a center-right party while the republican party is a far right party. I also think that Labour’s reputation suffered because of Tony Blair supporting Bush’s Iraq war. That was the beginning of the fall, and the lack of strong leaders in the party has also contributed to the fall.
I AM HOME ALL DAY….GOING TO CATCH MY ENERGIZER…AND PUT HIM IN MY POCKET…:)
I WILL BE HERE ON TIME…NOON OR SO…NOT GOING TO MISS THE ENERGIZER!
How David Cameron’s Conservatives won it.

Interesting read. Similar parallels in usa.
I’ve got to stay off the net — just placed my 4th book order this week! This book 5 copies…
amazon review:Review
“This is a wonderfully surprising book that explores the impact and the struggles of African Americans involved in NASA and the early days of the space program, a story that is little known but is well told by Richard Paul and Steven Moss. This is not just the history of a few pioneering individuals; rather this work provides insight into the struggle to obtain civil rights by contextualizing how the space program was integrated and how it helped to shape the movement for racial justice in the 1960s. This work broadens our understanding of this period of turmoil and change.” (Lonnie Bunch, Founding Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture)|”Wonderfully written and expertly researched, We Could Not Fail is a skillfully paced, real-life narrative of the surprising but profound impact African American engineers and technicians, NASA, and space exploration had on race and segregation in the Jim Crow south. Richard Paul and Steven Moss have produced an engaging book that provides a much-needed window into how public policy, mass protest, personal talent, character, and perseverance–alongside bold national ambition and vision–connected to change a nation. This is a ‘must read’ book, particularly at a time when we are once again openly struggling with the role of government in ensuring opportunity and civil rights for all our citizens.” (Mae Jemison, M.D., former NASA astronaut and principal, 100 Year Starship)
lol.
Cute.
The final numbers: Tories 331 Labour 232 SNP 56 Lib Dems 8 UKIP 1
kippers losing their ‘chief’ is the best outcome of today proving limeys are sane, all said and done. They are the bnp of 2015. But they would do well in murka.
All I can say about ukip is good riddance to bad rubbish. I am a lib dem so a little disappointed but at least we did better that that shower of ****! Pardon the language.
BTW, ***** DOLLAR TREE BOOK ALERT ******

Good morning TODvile! Special energy waves to all who need healing and special thoughts. Also to all who had birthday’s this week. So looking forward to hearing the President. Again thanks to all here for all support for this great President. I am thankful for each day we have with him. Have a great day everyone.
Wow, didn’t know that Nike has a center named for Vivian Stringer. Was just talking about her yesterday. Ms. Stringer was “Angel” to twin friends of mine, 40 some years ago, at Cheyney University . These ladies came from an extremely large (14 kids), working poor family. In response to a video I shared yesterday, we were reminiscing about the “Mrs. Baily’s” in our lives…
It was so enjoyable to me, to watch AG Loretta Lynch’s presser. Nothin’ like having the right confident and capable woman in power. She’s the very personification of TR’s philosophy, “Speak softly, and carry a big stick.” I could just hear her say something like this to any rabble-rouser in a presser who’d ever cross her path:
“What was your name again, dear? Okay, well, nice tie, but just walk to the back where the guards are, and they’ll help you out to your car. Have a nice day.”
hahahahahahahahahaahaha. Was that today Jacquelineoboomer? Your description made me want to see that. hahahahahaha
Yes, today! Definitely check it out! She was so cool that butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, as the old saying goes! 🙂
OK, going to have to catch PBO later. Dr’s appointment awaits>>>>>>>>>>>>

May 8th, 2015.
Hello TOD on a Lovely Friday…..TGIF…….from MN.
Congrats Amk on your Au ⭐
Birthday for VC ❓ Again ❓ So Soon ❓ And 21, still ❓
🍸 Happy Birthday, VC 😉
Congrats to all the Gold ⭐ winners, 3 posts back 🙂
Wearing #23 like MJ!
But Mr. Obama is older than MJ. MJ was born, Feb 17th, 1963……so I give #23 to POTUS 😉 🙂 😉
Is cable news showing the Nike speech so they can criticize it as soon as it is over.
( Coming our panel of expert know-it-all pundits will discuss !!!!)
I don’t know is TeaNN, MSNBC or any other Cabler, say Bloomberg, CNBC, FBN, etc are covering POTUS’ Trade Speech.
I was just thinking the other day: how successful the Marshall Plan was in not just rebuilding Europe and Japan, but remaking enemies into allies. And I don’t recall hearing that there was a great deal of profiteering going on through the Marshall Plan.
Can you imagine such a thing happening now? Only if Halliburton could make a profit, would there be any rebuilding. But being able to rebuild the diplomacy would be damn near impossible in this political climate.
The amount of $$$$ USA has poured into Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, Afghanistan, just in the last 20 yrs could have made any of those nations better than what We tried to do in Europe and Japan nearly 70 yrs ago.
The Huge difference……Corruption, Lack of Structural Functioning Government and Governance for starters in Iraq and Afghanistan and mainly corruption in Egypt and Pakistan.
So true. But we had a U.S. government for the Marshall Plan that was helpful, not just greedy. I don’t think we can compare Europe to the Middle East, but I don’t think there is anything past lip service that we would engage in now. Now, everything is a RW and/or libertarian experiment.
What makes this country truly exceptional? The rebuilding we did in the world post WW II, when we could have been punitive.
Also, our secular foundation, which is slipping away at a dangerous clip. Theocracy does not make us “exceptional”. It is the absence of theocracy. Sigh.
I Like this version Best 🙂
Yes, I am tremendously sorry for the four victims, but a small plane goes down on a highway in Atlanta, and CNN cuts off the President in the middle of his remarks in Oregon … and their butt boy MSNBC follows suit, immediately, as usual … although the trade deal will affect many, many American businesses and individuals. Does somebody buzz their a$$es at the same time, so they break away for their version of the news du jour?
Grrrr.
They’re disgusting.
So true!
This is a Typical example of the wicked crude and cruel mentality of the GOPers today…..
What a sicko…so ashamed he is from California. He needs to go to Texas.
Somebody ask him if the rich will trade places with them, then.
So now……Dr Know It All, Ben Carlson, is on board for Minimum Wage Increase? Hmm? When did that Change occur?
Talk is Cheap……I suppose.
Well, Mikey boy, there’s one key criteria to being in a “I-told-you-so” phase of presidency: Being correct. Therefore Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush never were in that phase.
Hello TODers. Hope all is well.
Nena I had to tweet your response!
Actually, forus50 it was YOUR response that I tweeted. 🙂
thanks! 🙂
POTUS is awesome. Wow, what a fantastic speaker laying out why the TPP is a good deal for Americans and knocking down the arguments by “his friends” like dominoes.
In_Deed, POTUS.
The truth Shall Set We The People FREE 😉
Today’s Tory is Neither yesteryear’s Tory nor are they Today’s US’s GOPers.
Tories support National Health Care, Cut Defense Budget, Gun Control, Minimum Wage (Dr Carlson…now as of 24 hours ago), Circular-ism, etc……No GOPer in US Supports
What Cameron has to worry about are the backbenchers, who are more conservative than he is.
In_Deed.
Now, Governing for him would be tougher.
Also, telling folks that this will be his last term…Cameron, that is,……cushioned the blow.
well thankfully the hard right conservative party in the UK failed miserably.
what’s funny is how the conservative republicans in the US are now trying to say that the UK cons are exactly like them. Well more pathetic than funny really.
AS ALWAYS…THAT’S OUR AWESOME PRESIDENT….FIRED UP IN THE SUNSHINE…I HOPE HE RESTS WELL BEFORE HIS LATTER SPEECH…PRAYING FOR A RELAXING FLIGHT AND GRADUATION TOUCHDOWN…I’LL BE THERE WATCHING!…I LOVE MY PRESIDENT!!!
Can someone explain the Export thing to me in English? “98% of U.S. companies THAT export goods are small businesses” YET “1% of the 28 million small businesses in America export their products”?
98% of U.S. companies that export goods are small business….
1% of the 28 million small businesses in U.S. export their products…
Seems to be a contradiction there or what am I missing?
98% of exported goods come from small businesses; but those businesses only represent 1% of the small businesses in America. There are 99% of small businesses that as yet do not export their goods.
Does that help at all?
Yes, thank you.
Historical accuracy …
Hope all TODers are having a fine day ….
bbl …
POTUS will be in South Dakota for only 2 hours. 😦
Saw that.
Oh my. POTUS glowing in the sunshine raining down truth on a happy crowd.
Wasn’t PBO at his best today? I loved how he stressed the job growth over 62 months and the outrageous success of Obamacare. Not to mention his takedown of his so-called friends and how entirely wrong they are about the TPP.
Some friends. Same friends poised to hand the country to a young GOP candidate not named Bush or Clinton next year.
A wicked scary stuff.
Weeks ago, it was Semen and now in the Eyes?
Yikes.
I would think most of the patients in Africa have “brown eyes” so how would they know if they still have Ebola post treatment?
I promise—my last word on UK general elections.
David Axelrod is tweeting about the abject failure of pollsters last night. He’s right about that.
I’d like to know if privately he understands he joined a ship that had sunk back in September. The day after the Scottish referendum on separating from the UK established that the Union would hold, the Scottish people I trust were saying that Labour was finished.
Scotland did not win Independence in September, but they won something else—citizen energy and involvement. Huge turnout and the startling results of last night.
In 2008 and 2012 people waited for hours to vote for what we believe in. In 2010 and 2014 the motivation was lacking.
That is the important lesson here.
Scotland isn’t the same as TX Teabaggers……in my opinion.
They are more Liberal than either Labour or Lib-Dems. Having a more equitable representation would go a long way…..Their region is rich in Oil and Gas and they house UK’s Nuclear Subs too.
Most Voters held the Labour and the Lib-Dems accountable for dissing their Core Principle.
Yet, The Tories in Power were the Beneficiaries of the anger Labour and Lib-Dems voters have carried for 5 yrs.
Nena, i think you got it right.
Josh Barro short of facts. A unifying feature of GOP reporting.
““Here is the queer thing, the thrilling thing and the frightening thing,” the columnist Ian Jack wrote in The Guardian recently. “Among the food banks and the trampled front gardens of the big housing schemes, poor people here have begun to feel they have power.”
Ms. Black, who loves football and still has to take her final exams at Glasgow University, spent the last two years campaigning for independence. The defeat broke hearts, she said.
clip
Since the day after the referendum, the S.N.P. has quadrupled its membership, to nearly 110,000. Many of these new supporters used to vote for Labour but say they no longer trust a party perceived to have betrayed its working-class roots.
David Smith, a 52-year-old security guard, is one of those new S.N.P. supporters. Labour, he said, had just become “red Tories,” little different than the Conservative Party.”
As noted yesterday ….
“BTW, US Nov14 + UK May15 = @HillaryClinton & other #GOPLite #DEMS will LOSE 8Nov16.”
#TrustBarack
#RidinWithBiden
People better learn ….
off to meetings ….
Bob, I hope you take a second to read my I Promise last post on UKGE.
4 comments before yours.
We are singing the same tune.
Like you, Ridinwith Biden and working for Mayor de Blasio in my large housing project.
Tell ’em Bob. They can’t say they did not know.

@OregonianPol
The stance of a truly relaxed speaker!
feeling good about that …and you are truly correct
I love that PBO gets a LOT of mileage out of those shoes.
Thought the same thing, meta. He’s had those half-soled……..an economical, thrifty, frugal person. No wonder he relates so well to people like us, and not to the 1%!!!
Inorite?!!
I saw it and thought the same thing.
Miss Japan who is representing them for Miss Universe is a Multiracial young lady. Wow. I had not known that…..until today.

Testing…..trying to post her picture here 😉
If it posts and it gets too large, please Help!
She’s beautiful. I would like to know her story….
How did you post the photo, Nena?
I clicked on the picture, then highlighted the Copy Image Location, double clicked that and copied and then dropped it here to post.
I believe the President met her in Japan.

On VE Day #70, and as granddaughter of a coal miner (who was born in 1885 and went into the coal mines in 1896 at age 11, to help support his family), I’d like to again share one of my favorite Churchill quotes from WW II:
The date was Oct. 31, 1942. Winston Churchill was addressing a conference of coal-mine operators and miners in Westminster’s Central Hall. It was a short speech and can be read in five minutes. As Churchill speeches go, this one was rather routine, no brilliant oratorical flourishes, nothing really memorable until the final paragraph:
“We shall not fail, and then some day, when children ask, ‘What did you do to win this inheritance for us, and to make our name so respected among men?’ one will say: ‘I was a fighter pilot’; another will say: ‘I was in the Submarine Service’; another: ‘I marched with the Eighth Army’; a fourth will say: ‘None of you could have lived without the convoys and the Merchant Seamen,’ and you in your turn will say, with equal pride and with equal right: ‘We cut the coal.’”

JER do you have a link for arrival in SD?
Not yet. But here is this.
Here is a link for South Dakota, forus50.
KDLT will carry President Obama’s speech live on KDLT, as well as stream the address online at KDLT.com.
Thanks JER!!
Looks like the link might be this – arrival in Watertown expected at 4pm Central

The farm I grew up on in southwestern Minnesota is just 110 miles from Watertown where my older brothers used to go before the 4th of July to buy illegal fireworks. 🙂

Chat on
http://theobamadiary.com/2015/05/08/chat-away-577/
is it just me, or are we hearing more and more about “polls being way off” after so many “surprise” election results? Seems they always, always favor the republican/conservatives. they tried to project this onto president obama’s spanking of mittens rmoney, and act like it was a surprise, when in fact the only thing surprising about 2012 was how close mittens got, which leads back to my question. i don’t trust these e-voting machines at all!
president obama is such an exceptional candidate that he wins even if they are flipping votes since his margins are so huge, but otherwise republicans are the “surprise winners” over and over now. considering republicans/libertarians have no problem sending u.s. troops to their deaths and lie and lie about the reasons why, all to profit their money-changer bosses, it’s not a stretch to think they would rig elections, which is really easy to do with e-voting if you have people in the right places of the process. people gotta wake up about this!
4morefor44, I agree with 110%, This e-voting flipping scheme is not a conspiracy theory. Karl Rove pulled this off in Ohio in 2008 and 2012. The 2014 midterm elections especially in Wisconsin and Georgia met with e-vote flipping.
I will retrieve articles by various vote monitors and Anonymous regarding e-vote flipping and post them on TOD,
