Actually, AMK, I read recently that wasps carry yeast in their bellies which they get from grapes in the late fall. They feed this stuff to their offspring who then give the yeast back to young grapes. So, indirectly, beer, ale and wine making all depend on wasps. Ain’t life grand?

And I do believe wasps are considered to be part of the decomposers, which I cannot imagine how nasty things could be if these little (or big) creatures were not here to take care of those bits! Everything has a Purpose under Heaven, except maybe Republicans.

Good morning TOD family and Chips. I’ve been mostly lurking in the past few days very busy with sick kitties. Happy B-lated Birthday to those I missed and it was such a joy that HZ posted yesterday. I will continue to keep her in my thoughts and prayers, get strong and well soon.

I peeked in after being out last night and by the time I saw that she’d posted she was long gone from here…So glad that she did that. I was getting worried.

good morning Chips, yes me too.. the people here do not deserve to be under continued police state. The rally yesterday was really good, I don’t have the stamina to attend, but it was televised. The speeches particularly by the young folks was so inspired and inspiring.. really proud of the citizens in my newly adopted city.

Good morning TOD…..it’s a beautiful, sunny morning here, with rain expected this week. We are thankful for every drop of rain we get. My peonies are beginning to bloom, so life is good. So glad to see HZ here last night……I love how we keep track of each other. sherijr, you and your city will be on my prayer list at church this morning. I lived in DC a number of years, and had good friends who lived in Baltimore, and I have followed these events closely, hurting for you. So admire the SA!

As a personal note, my husband is improving day by day…..nothing dramatic, just incremental steps, but going the right direction. Hope to start physical therapy this week, we will as soon as we have an appointment. He is ready for it, physically and emotionally. In fact, his emotional improvement is somewhat startling. He said something the other day about getting rid of the “cobwebs” in his head…..which have been there for a number of months. But his mental acuity is back, and I’ll take that any day over the physical.

Thanks to all of you for your concern.

    GM everyone.

Have been seeing reports that Gov O’Malley was on MTP talking about how nothing has been done for American cities for the last 20 years and some plan like the Marshall Plan needs to be implemented.

Did anyone ask him how come this is needed in his cities where he was Gov up until very recently? What plan did he implement and why did it not work?

    Just asking.

    • 86 jacquelineoboomer
      May 3, 2015 at 11:17 am

I think we’re all a little turned off and tuned out as it relates to Gov O’Malley … maybe he’ll find a new footing and move forward. Maybe not. We need some good candidates to make 2016 a real competition.

    • May 3, 2015 at 11:30 am

Wasn’t O’Malley the Governor of Maryland for eight years, what did he do for the part of Maryland who needed his help the most?

    • 91 Nena20409
      May 3, 2015 at 11:38 am

O’Malley was also, at one time The Mayor of Baltimore.
The guy needs to explain his managerial style while serving Baltimore and Maryland respectively.

Yes, the question to Gov O’Malley should have been what programs did you implement in YOUR cities, state…Every state has a Governor ,state senators etc. who are in charge of getting stuff done for their citizens of their state…Gov O’Malley, don’t try to dump your mess in the Presidents lap…you were Gov. for 8 damn years!!!!

  27. May 3, 2015 at 12:03 pm

A couple of things Baltimore related: According to my 15 yr old there are videos out this morning of Baltimore PD ‘politely asking White protestors to leave after curfew last night’. As we all know, that is not the way black protestors have been treated after curfew, most have been arrested.

The other thing, as relates to O’Malley: Having only been here a short time, 2+ yrs.. and I mentioned this early in the week: There is a tremendous amount of income inequality here, and to a new person it is really obvious. When we see the $$$$ downtown w/ the Ravens/ Cardinals stadiums, the Harbor & tourist stuff.. and a block over there is evidence of real poverty, my first question has always been where does all this income to the city go? I honestly don’t know. I know the costs here are high- utilities, taxes; etc. Even food, particularly in the corner/ neighborhood markets that too many folks have to rely on. Even gas is higher in the poorer areas than elsewhere. It’s an old story, that never seems to change in urban areas that are predominately filled with people of color.

My neighborhood is little better.. although we have less violence here, I think. There was a 14 yr old boy shot and killed at the beginning of April, a few blocks down the street. I will say something here though that I’ve not said outloud except to family: I’ve mentioned the heroin dealer living behind me.. what I didn’t mention is that he is white- his partner is AA, I know that they run the hookers that stay on the corners nearly 24 hrs a day- 3 houses down on my street. What I am beginning to believe is that the police allow this.. because he and the majority of the hookers are Caucasian. This neighborhood is very mixed, white, black, Asian, hispanic- it runs the gamut. And as I’ve stated it is mostly working poor.. but we get lots of traffic to the hookers and the dealer.

Just my two cents for what it’s worth.

Sherijr thank you for your insight on B, MD. I would encourage you and your neighbors start a block club of all surrounding areas. Rout out these parasites infecting your neighborhood. Get the local police to have an officier attend the block club, this is an opportunity to make positive changes while the spotlight is on B, MD. If you feel this way I am sure others feel the same way.

sherijr….want to let you know that people halfway across the country are praying for all of you and doing what we can. Today our Assoc. minister’s morning prayer was exclusively for all aspects of the Baltimore situation. She had spoken with a friend, a Rev. Amy Simms who is a minister in Baltimore. She called Lori and specifically asked that we remember Baltimore this morning, and told her some specific things that have happened in her neighborhood. Lori also included in her prayer the devastating facts and statistics about young AA males’ lives. That hit hard………I hope that people are waking up. You are not forgotten.

Yes, it is. Just look at the context in which it’s always used.

One site full of racist cops referred to “the head thug in the White House”. It’s just a replacement term for what they really want to say.
