TOD peeps, I’m bothered by the statement Mz Strong made last night. I don’t believe she is the First hetero female comedian to appear at the WHCD. Of the three previous; Elayne Boosler, Paula Poundstone & Wanda Sykes, I think Elayne is a hetero female comedian.
I thought the lady who introduced Ms. Strong said she was the first female and Ms. Strong corrected her by saying she was the “first” hetero female to host the comedy which she is apparently wrong there too. I guest they were trying to slam the two gay women who were much funnier than Ms. Strong in my opinion.
To give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she meant the first hetero female in the past 6-7 years. 😉
She reminded me of the black female comedian (I bet you anything NerdyW would remember her name :D) who many on twitter were trying to recruit to replace Jon Stewart – the one who declined the effort and then had to put a know-it-all columnist in her place for criticizing her decision. Ms Strong reminds me of her because that comedian was intelligent, and self-aware, enough to know her strengths at this period of her development. Based on her performance, IMO Mz Strong didn’t/doesn’t.
Reminds me of the B&W picture of a man in Uniform when JFK’s Casket was on a Horse-Driven Cart with two boots facing backward. That noble Military or Guardsman had tears rolling down his face.
Wondering why the national discussion sorrounding what threats law enforcement faces as they do their jobs either just skims over or ignores the huge numbers of guns. The liability of the NRA & their bought elected officials needs to feature more prominently in the cause and effect
In 2014, per one lady on a BBC or Al Jazeera show last week…….there were 11K homicides and 20K who took their own lives using guns in USA.
Until these numbers are part of the daily conversation in toto, nothing changes.

As you know, the contents of his tweets were excerpted from a speech he made earlier today to Iranian police officials.
Iran is far from free of brutality toward certain folk – especially Iranian Kurds. But, the behavior of US cops and some of our troops in Iraq, plus the behavior of our Presidents who start illegal wars, makes it very easy for others to point to our hypocrisy.

.good idea to school him on what he should do if there are consequences..depending on his age…i just might volunteer in the classroom that day .and i would call other parents to find out if their kids are following suit….it is hard to be the only one…
after talking it over with his friends they opted not to do it as they were told they’d receive in school suspensions today- for not wearing uniforms. And frankly I told him not to, also. I want him to stand up and speak out.. but in a useful way. So he and his friends are going to put their heads together and find a more substantial way to honor Freddie Gray.

Law enforcement is very much on the side of limiting guns…background checks etc….
I think police are terrified that a citizen could have more/better weapons than they do…so shoot first, ask questions(maybe) later….
