Morning all. Last night’s tour de force by PBO showed that there’s just no limit to his greatness. Just when you think you’ve seen him at his best, he manages to top it. I don’t think there’s ever been world leader like him. He not only accomplishes monumental things, he’s able to laugh about it.
So happy to hear you got your LOLs back, Chips! I’m still a day or so behind on catching up, but was so happy to see this from WHCP event! It made my morning! Haven’t had stitches in my side for a loooong time. Warning: no coffee or other libations while watching, unless you’re far from your keyboard! You’re welcome, Democrats in Congress! Zing! So many buckets! I have to go to the store and get The Man some more buckets! 🙂
Good morning Jackie, Ms. Chips and TODers!. The President was amazing last night- as usual. He leaves me searching for words to describe his awesomeness.
I think FLOTUS synchronizes her clothes to the President’s speeches. If he’s going to pull out all the stops and deliver remarks for the ages, she dresses accordingly. Together they make the statement that they are matchless and wannabes and detractors can just eat their hearts out If you were a sentient being watching last night’s WHCD performance you would think that a) the president is the smartest, funniest man on the planet; and b) he’s got the most stunning wife in the world. Everyone and everything else is just one ‘meh’ in comparison.
When FLOTUS walk on the stage last night the first thing I notice was the curls, and I liked that do on her. I’m trying to remember if she has ever wore her hair like that before.
Morning:) I’m all discombobulated this morning…I thought it was 6:30 and its really 5:30…hubby had to fly this morning and the same thing happened to him…only it was 3;30 and not 4:30am! Going to be one of those days!! Raining though…hope the rains reach CA, too…
Sadly, no rain here in SoCal this week. The sky starting spitting in early afternoon (not even a drizzle — the kind of thing where you say, wait, was that a drop of rain??? no, oh wait, it might have been) but only for a few minutes. 😦
Interestingly, I went to a “beneficial insects” class at my local nursery and the speaker (who specializes in landscaping for clients) said they no longer sell sod/grass. They will order it upon request, of course, but they are encouraging all clients to rip out their lawns for more climate-appropriate landscaping.
The drought is all that anyone talks about at the local nurseries here. Californians are truly taking this situation seriously, unlike with previous droughts.
Yay, a victory for common sense, among lala-land Californians!
We got a few drops of rain early Saturday morning but barely noticeable. It is snowing pretty heavily in the Sierras, however.
I’m glad to hear SoCal is taking notice of the drought regarding landscaping. This is no joke.
I saw a guy the other day washing down his sidewalk and I was very tempted to approach him and say, HELLO?, but I refrained.
Morning, arapaho!! Xeriscaping is very beautiful. The grass is not necessary to have a beautiful and inviting yard. We do it here as a matter of course, but those midwest transplants DO love to bring their stuff with them when they come! Once upon a time, Dr’s would send their patients with allergies to the desert…not any more!! Trees and bushes and grasses from all over the damn place, plus the dust, makes this NOT a good place for allergy sufferers any more.
Morning, Arapaho. There may come a day when the word ‘lawn’ is unknown to future generations. Those who read about it may wonder why people spent so much time and resources cultivating yards of grass. Lawns are a big drain on most people’s budgets–seed, equipment, endless weedkiller applications and hours and hours of time that could be better spent with family and friends.
About the lawns: when I lived in Juneau, considered a rainforest, my husband was called lawnman in the community we lived in. Besides mowing he fertilized, thatched, limed, and used weed killer regularly on our lawn and it was gorgeous. When he died I was faced with trying to do everything we both had done with one child grown on his own living in Hawaii, one that had just started college far away, one that was a senior in high school, and one a couple days from her sweet sixteen birthday. Did I say there are no roads in or out of Juneau? None of us could get the old hand-me-down lawn mower started. If I wanted a new lawn mower I had to have it barged up from the lower 48 at that time. I bought a push mower, but within a year I could hardly push the mower through the moss that had taken over the grass without doing all the other maintenance work he had done.
Upon moving back to Oregon I did not want to deal with a lawn ever again. I have a landscape cloth over the ground with rocks on top on my lot. Started adding 4×4′ raised planters for ground covers, trees, flowers and veggies with drip water that is controllable concentrating on more drought resistant varieties. The vegetation keeps the area from looking like a vast area of rocks yet the table, bench, glider area and surrounding spaces with rocks keeps the planters to a minimum. I have created a nice area to sit and reflect in.
GM TOD & df….CA did get rain yesterday and today is so beautiful after the rain…..have a glorious day basking in the comedic genius of PBHO. The media has a sad this morning.
Right to have no say in working conditions, pay, vacations, whatever. Just right to quit if you do not like it and try to find a better job. Back to the servant status days.
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the President at the WHPC Dinner last evening. It’s obvious that the 4th Quarter of his presidency has made him feel freer to express his feelings and deepest thoughts about everything Washington — GOP, Democrats, media, etc. Some of the places he went made me gasp and go, “Whoa!” [Some of the things he said made me think to myself, “He really does read The Obama Diary!” 🙂
To me, the Worst President Ever “joke” was telling. I’m sure many have believed that Cheney was the puppetmaster for much of went on in W’s administration; especially as it relates to Iraq. The President labeling Cheney as the worst president ever, even as part of a joke, lends some credence to that thought.
This year’s WHPC dinner was the “bucket list” oration. I suspect the 2016 dinner will be the “Kiss my @$$” diatribe.
Goooood moooorrrninnnggg, Chips and Early Bird TODers!! Still laughing about our POTUS and his wild sense of humor. He really has it all. The press, not so much.
#WHPC can dish it out 24/7 but cannot take it for a single 10 minutes.

I like to watch Obama at the nerd-proms, and I think he enjoys it too. He takes a lot of crap from those assholes 364 days a year. On nerd-prom night he gets to give it back, with a dagger, a twist, and a smile. He is always funnier than the poor comedian who follows him, and draws more blood too.
Well!!!! Good morning TOD and Yes, meta that was the question. Red oak lettuce. What is the world coming to that we need to know the specific type of lettuce anybody is being served?
I think it’s the duty of the pompous, full-of-themselves WHPC “board of directors” to extend invitations for that gig.
Would LOVE to see John Oliver (Brits can skewer Americans better than anyone else) with Stephen Colbert as his “date.” The mere thought of this has my ROTFL.
2016 WHCD, With all due respect, how about just letting President Obama have all that time. Ladies and Gentlemen speaking after the President will be the President.
I think they would be afraid to give PBO any more time than he already gets. More time, more people/groups to potentially target. As it was, I’m sure there were a number of people wiping their brows in relief that they didn’t get caught in the dragnet last evening.
Another reason to ignore #2016campaign — the always-annoying Lanny Davis — wonder if the odious Mark “BHO did cocaine as a youth” Penn will be making a comeback?
Washington disconnect from real world: @LannyDavis, in the tank for the Clintons, tells Fox $2.5M donation isn't much. It is for most folks
Hi Arapaho. I’ve seen Lanny in the last month or two delivering the Message which is: HRC is and always has been a Progressive. Now she is a New Progressive with a very Progressive point of view. Are you listening Progressives? Forget Bill de Blasio who has already done amazing Progressive work in NYC. HRC is our Progressive candidate. Progressive I tell you goddamit!! Progressive.
Really annoying that HRC gets so much media time. Cecily Strong’s #RahRahHillary grated on my nerves last night — I could be wrong, but seemed to me that her one-liners were written by SNL Weekend Update staff — disconnected one-liners, no theme except that HRC should be the next President. (Haven’t watched SNL in years.)
Okay, I did not get to watch last night.. and planned to watch the video in a bit… but thought I’d check this video #WHCD – OMG that was the very best.. LOVED when POTUS got angry. Senate panel approves bill to ban Guantanamo transfers
The Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday approved legislation that would effectively bar further releases of detained terrorists from the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for the rest of the Obama administration.
The bill by Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., approved on a 14-12 vote, would bar the release or transfer of any detainees judged to be medium- or high-risk — the vast majority of the 122 who remain at Guantanamo — and would require greater justification for any other release or transfer. It also would bar transfers of any Guantanamo prisoner to Yemen, home country of the largest group of remaining detainees and where the recent collapse of the government amid factional fighting has set back U.S. anti-terrorism efforts.
Senators also adopted an amendment by Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., requiring the administration to justify its contention that the prison is a valuable propaganda and recruitment tool for extremist groups such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
I just watched last night’s speech again and I could appreciate it even more because my heart wasn’t pounding as it did last night.
I was struck by the end of the bit with Luther, the anger translator when PBO was looming over a cowed Luthor and thought to myself, “Be afraid, RW and disloyal Dems. Be very afraid. Now you know what President Obama looks like when he is angry.”
Yeah, he’s okay. Thankfully. That was a crap move and it’s nuts the goalkeeper didn’t face any consequences and Chelsea didn’t get a penalty as justification for that dangerous nonsense.

The Minsk Agreement Isn’t Fraying – It’s Smoldering
13:30 (GMT)
“The truth is, however, that the deal is not fraying — soon to be broken — but smoldering, soon to burst into flames. Yesterday, Grad rockets were launched from separatist territory and, as we reported, a major analytical think tank with a reputation of predicting crisis published a paper saying that a major Russian offensive is “imminent.”
Today the Ukrainian government is warning about the rising violence. RFE/RL reports:
Military spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said in Kyiv that the rebels who hold parts of two eastern provinces had stepped up attacks on government forces in violation of an agreement on a cease-fire and steps toward peace.
He said separatist forces were using large-caliber artillery, despite a commitment by both sides to pull such weaponry back from the front lines under the cease-fire deal signed in Minsk on February 12.
A statement from the military said that rebels near the town of Pisky in Donetsk province had fired at government positions eight times, including four barrages using 120-millmeter shells.
It said that separatist forces had also large-caliber shells in at least two other areas.”
The President was hilarious with perfect timing – as usual! Loved the CNN burn, Luther (Key and Peele are the only comics who’ve been able to figure out how to do PBO properly), the Buck-it list 🙂
Cecily Strong was meh, and her comments about PBO and ISIS and not being progressive enough pissed me off. She’s o.k. doing characters but I never like her on Update, so I figured I wouldn’t like her here and I was right. Hated the HRC rah-rah, but was pleased and surprised when she made the comment about if he had run now and let HRC deal with the economy in 2008, he could be running away from her successful presidency in 2016 (instead of HRC running from PBO’s success now).
Anyway, PBO is the coolest President ever! Am I the only one that thought he was kind of sexy when he got angry? 😉
Don’t know about ‘sexy,’ MadameSoph, but I do know that his take down of @TheDemocrats, as well as, HRC and GovO, should have all of them sweating it this morning, especially since he contrasted those comments with his unrestrained statement of affection for VP Biden.
Oh, and I would never want to be on the receiving end of his anger!!!
Morning all. Last night’s tour de force by PBO showed that there’s just no limit to his greatness. Just when you think you’ve seen him at his best, he manages to top it. I don’t think there’s ever been world leader like him. He not only accomplishes monumental things, he’s able to laugh about it.

Morning to you, meta:) Someone had a cooking question last night…..can’t remember what it was though:)
I think it was Vicki who asked about the salad and the answer is Red Oak lettuce.
Well!!!! Good morning TOD and Yes, meta that was the question. Red oak lettuce. What is the world coming to that we need to know the specific type of lettuce anybody is being served?
The menus in my town would give you startle.
GM TOD – PBO proves once again that he he’s got Comedy Gold. That was funny! 😀

I think I have to watch this again….
GOOD MORNINGGGGG!

Good morning, sir.
Hope your BD was splendiferous — PBO knows how to celebrate your BD. Glad TOD was invited to your celebration gig last night.
OMG – I’m saving that for my four-year-old action figure!!!!!!!!!!!! Too cute.

HHhahahaa, that’s hysterical. The Goldwater Goldman Sachs Girl is now our party’s strongest progressive? LOLz.
Is that James Carville guy back on the Hillary team?
Yup, he sure is.
I guess someone should remind Hillary, that she lost the last time she had that same old dried out team.
Carville is pretty sharp though. That Lanny person is the real fly in the ointment.
James Carville, Hilary Rosen, and Ed Rendell represent the old HRC followers I grew to hate in the ’08 Primary.
G’morning Chips & TOD!! Happy Sunday everyone. 🙂 Still basking in the afterglow of PBO’s slam dunk roast last night!

It was even better the second time around!
❤ Chipsticks ~ are you quite certain you are NOT PBO? We might be requiring some proof! ❤
Somewhere, I have a comment about xerioscaping that didn’t post:)….
Found and freed DF!!!
Thanks a bunch:) Morning, Chips:)
Goooooooood morning to ya, young lady!
You called me young:) {{{Chips}}}
Chips I had a comment about FLOTUS that didn’t post either. WP is being vicious this morning.
Ah, I found one by you earlier Jackie and freed it, WP seems almost as moody as me after watching Manchester United lose 3-0. 🙄
This is infuriating.

RW rag but the info is correct.
So when the pseudo-progressives blame the president for the non closure of Gitmo…..
Yeah, note that Dems joined in on the circus.
I just watched last night’s speech again and I could appreciate it even more because my heart wasn’t pounding as it did last night.

POTUS bringing out Luther – genius!
It didn’t lose anything in the transposition either.
Special congrats on your 3/4 C, YA! May your 3/4 year … 😉 …. be filled with love and laughter!
It’sall good as long as I have you lot! 😆
😀 We be here! 😀
^5 !
Good Morning!
Man United lost 3 – 0 to Everton after also losing to the MAGNIFICENT Chelsea last week.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
This is Wayne Rooney crying today.
They were lucky it wasn’t six 😥
OUCH!!!
Hope the guy is ok … trending on Twitter, btw ….
And the most amazing thing is the goalkeeper wasn’t sent off – and Chelsea weren’t given a penalty. Nuts!
I know, right? That was insane to watch. Freaked me out. Thank goodness Oscar is okay.
Yeah, he’s okay. Thankfully. That was a crap move and it’s nuts the goalkeeper didn’t face any consequences and Chelsea didn’t get a penalty as justification for that dangerous nonsense.
Just glad the fella wasn’t seriously injured, NW. That’s a really dirty hit.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
PBO brought his _uckit list for real!
Still grinning from last night……. the President was totally electrifying.

Just Popping in post Nerd Prom!
The First Lady’s hair was GORGEOUS!
That’s right! I’d forgotten his shout out to VP Biden – loved that! – especially contrasted with the vision of HRC living out of a van 🙂
O.k., off to work…
