I just don’t get how emoprogs and Dems up in arms about TPP are so foolish to bestow more anti-Dem riches on our RWNJ MSM, who are taking this ball and running with it.
Dems seem to have no sense of perspective or history — it’s apparent that Barack Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime politician, yet they do everything possible to undermine him and his accomplishments — it drives me nuts that they don’t pause for a moment and be grateful that McCain/Palin and/or Romney/Ryan did not succeed the GWB/Cheney/Rumsfeld disaster.
Question about NAFTA, which is assumed to be horrible.
I didn’t pay much attention to politics during the Clinton Adm (yet still believe that the repeal of Glass-Steagall was the worst thing any Dem President could have done) — the only thing I hated about NAFTA was personal — Mexico vehicles not subject to Cali environmental standards and it seemed all the trucks with Baja California plates on LA-area freeways were spewing tons of pollutants (don’t see them much now though).
What Dems hate—and rightly so— is the loss of millions of manufacturing jobs across the USA.
The TPP has measures to insure that this sad history will not be repeated.
Clinton Greed brought us NAFTA. You want the Other Clinton to return to the WH?????????????????????
Seems like everything I see nowadays is stamped “made in China” or some other Pacific Rim country.
IIRC, seems to me that the outsourcing frenzy was started under GOP Presidents — seems like IT and Call Center managers got the itch to move those jobs (for pennies on the dollar) in the late 1980s.
arapaho, I remember reading a number of years back, an article by some investigative reporter. He said that Clinton would go to his impeachment trial in the morning, Gingrich would spout his phony outrage, and the two of them came back to the office in the afternoons and met with Phil Gramm to deregulate the banks. It was all theater while Clinton actively worked to bring on the crash of ’08.
Bill Clinton doesn’t have to answer to the MSM about the worst financial decision made by this government, but PBO has to answer for every fevered lie told about him. And that Democrats do it is beyond comprehension.
Glass-Steagall repeal backstory is worse than I thought.
Newt “Government Shutdown” Gingrich was such a pig back then.
Can’t believe the MSM stays silent on things that really matter to the financial wellbeing and lives (i.e., rollover for the NRA, forget about those adorable first graders in Newtown, etc.) but get worked up if a person with a Muslim-sounding name does anything except stay out of sight.
Bringing this over from end of last thread. If you haven’t written or called or both to thank PO, please try to find time to do that.
As others here have done, I sent an encouraging note and huge thank you to the President last night. Just now, I called the WH comment line. Didnโt have to wait long at all. Shared my comment and in it made sure I made note of how furious I am at the Dems and their treatment of PO. The lady thanked me twice and ended by saying โYouโre a good person.โ Could tell she was touched with my message of support for PO and agreed with my comment about the Dems.
Hi There! Poking my head in for a sec. Just wanted to say “hi” from beautiful Panama City Beach, FL. Came down to enjoy the Seabreeze Jazz Festival! Life is GOOD! Thanks Obama! ๐
Enjoy the Jazz, Dudette — if there’s anyone who can truly appreciate it, it’s you!
Florida is in the news in a bad way now — some frat from University of Florida (I think that’s what I heard) abusing wounded veterans and their families.
I really hated the Vietnam War and the draft, but JHC, kids these days have no idea who they should be picking on — i.e., there for the grace of God go I…
I think all the attention she has been getting about her running for President has gone to Sen. Warren’s head. Maybe she might have to be knock down a peg or two. And Democrats better be careful about how they treat President Obama, Michael Hargrove is so right, because the Dems problem with white voters can soon be their problem with black voters. We will not stand for the Democrats disrespecting President Obama. I can’t speak for every black person but I can speak for myself.
I think everyone who is attacking TPP is doing it to elevate themselves, since they all know they can’t hold a candle to PBO in any sphere of life, politics or career.
I accept distortions and lies from no one, so she has lost a good deal of my respect over this. Her actions also show her political inexperience and lack of sophistication. Let’s be clear about one thing: Any Democrat who doesn’t realize that we have to re-build our brand by pointing to the accomplishments of this President, is doomed and is dooming the entire party. With that comes the destruction of the country, because if a Republican gets to pick the next round of SC Justices we are truly doomed.
I can’t listen to progressive radio anymore except Stephanie Miller because it is TPP lies 24/7. Despicable.
I’ve been thinking about Rachel Maddow’s idiotic assertion that PBO is sexist in his treatment of Warren and have come to the conclusion that it was a preemptive strike against the fear that people would view their unfounded and lie based attacks on the President as somehow being racist. For the record, I don’t think this TPP hysteria is racist, I think these folks are craven politicians/media personalities looking for political/career gain through contributions by unions, airtime/attention and ratings/relevance (in the case of Maddow/Schultz). Rather this preemptive playing of the victim card by Warren and Maddow tells me that they both know their arguments against TPP cannot withstand scrutiny and can be seen as unfair personal attacks against PBO. I have never been a fan of Warren or Maddow, and this reinforces my negative impression of these two small and petty people.
Back when I had cable, I did enjoy @Maddow’s investigative reporting pieces on the environment — but now that role has been ably picked up by John Oliver.
Didn’t know Maddow did this, which is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard of. Barack Obama, raised by a single Mom and married to one of the strongest women on the planet, is sexist — riiiight — about as likely as he’s secretly gay-married (not).
Very interesting Eric, but why play the “Obama is a sexist” card in the face of a mountain of evidence that undoubtedly says he isn’t a sexist. Maddow has a Ph.D. in political science and the first words out of her mouth are ” Obama is a sexist,” she should know better. The first bill President Obama signed was a bill that Lilly Ledbetter bill, he ended DADT and DOMA and the supreme court it reviewing a case that will be a watershed moment for our gay brothers and sisters that want to marry. It is safe to say that President Obama has fought for Warren and Maddow and they both can’t even see it.
That is why I called it an idiotic assertion, but the fact remains that it was made by Maddow. My theory (as stated in my comment) is it was made as a preemptive strike against any claims of racism for their lie based attacks on the President (i.e., playing the victim was designed to deflect any race based criticism of Warren/Maddow.
President Obama says very publicly in an interview that Elisabeth Warren is wrong. Elisabeth Warren’s BIG EGO is bruised. And since she’s so convinced she’s more intelligent et knows better than the president, she says to herself “How dare he questions me; how dare he doesn’t give me respect, doesn’t call me SENATOR !! ” And she thinks he has contempt for her; and blames that on sexism. Because she has probably suffered in the past from sexism attitudes. Being self-centered, she feels like a victim in this particular instance while there’s no “there” there.
She shares her sentiment with Rachel Maddow behind the scenes and voilร ! Maddow jumps on the bandwagon. Maddow has probably suffered herself from discrimination ( either as a woman or as a lesbian) so that pushes a button and she’s quick to believe the interpretation of Elisabeth Warren.
All of this when President Obama called Mrs Warren by her first name, in a spontaneous manner. Because he has called her Elisabeth for years, and has considered her a friend. The man who said “Elisabeth is wrong” wasn’t thinking of protocol; it was the hurt and angry friend who was talking.
To equate this with sexism is pure idiocy and is a demonstration of how self-serving Elisabeth Warren is becoming. As for Rachel, when she loses any sense of rationality (not the first time), it’s not pretty.
I support this statement you made earlier, EricFive, so I floated it on twitter. Whether done by Republicans or Democrats I find I’m greatly turned off by politicians who lack integrity. Integrity and sincerity will attract me every time.

Got back from the cancer center. MRI showed lots of disease in my lower spine so I’ll need 10 days of radiation. Fun, fun, fun.
Also, while in the waiting room, my mom got a call from a cousin I used to live with in Jamaica. I was 5-6 years old at the time and my mom had went to America to get papers for me and my siblings to follow. Haven’t seen this cousin in decades and she had been living in Brooklyn for some time. She tried to find me but was unsuccessful until now. Now that I’m in Florida. Lol…
