First organized in 1970, Earth Day is a day set aside to remember and appreciate the Earth’s environment, and our responsibilities and roles within it. Today, April 22, we observe the 45th annual Earth Day, and though many things have changed for the better, environmental challenges remain. In the past 45 years, the population of the Earth has doubled—75 percent of the people alive today were born after 1970—and the increased demand on our limited resources makes sustainable solutions even more important. Collected here are 45 images of our world from recent years, each a glimpse into some aspect of our environment, how it affects and sustains us, and how we affect it.

    ICYMI…some truth-telling

Toni Morrison, the only living Nobel laureate in literature from the United States and a leading voice on race, has her own test to determine when racism will truly be over in the U.S. “People keep saying, ‘We need to have a conversation about race.’ This is the conversation. I want to see a cop shoot a white unarmed teenager in the back,” Morrison said in a recent interview with the Telegraph’s Gaby Wood. “And I want to see a white man convicted for raping a black woman. Then when you ask me, ‘Is it over?’ I will say yes.”

Evoking images of Michael Brown, Walter Scott and countless black men whose dead bodies have filled our screens in recent years, the 84-year-old literary lioness, whose new book God Help the Child went on sale Tuesday, makes a powerful point about the racism that underlies America’s criminal justice system. Her point is not about promoting violence, but rather that the disproportionate amount of violence and police brutality against black people would not be tolerated were it perpetuated against whites….continued”

The Parliamentarian has informed distraught Repubs that PBO will be able to remove Cuba from the terrorist list.
With you or without you, once again ridiculous GOP.
And no. They will never learn.

How frustrating it must be to be in opposition to President Obama. Sooner or later events prove how solid the ground PBO stands on proves to be.

Illeana Ros-Lehtinin (idiot,FL) vows to find a way—some way—any way– to attempt in some other manner to ruin the happiness of the people of Cuba. No worries, however. She will now find a way fail in some other legislation that goes nowhere..

looks like Warren and Obama are having a tussle. According to the media that is.

  11. April 22, 2015 at 8:18 pm

One question, isn’t our President and First Lady the best?

  12. April 22, 2015 at 8:21 pm

Chips, for some reason I thought of you. You could probably win a marriage proposal.

Once the deal becomes public, Senator Warren will have four months to round up 60 votes to end “fast-track” authority if she feels that the negotiating objectives were not met.

I know that for much of the progressive world, Senator Warren has become the great liberal hero of our time. But that doesn’t exempt her from being wrong. And on this one, that’s exactly what she is right now.

Dems in Congress who are dead set against TPP are now pressuring HRC to speak up and take a stand against the President.
      This will not end well.

      • April 22, 2015 at 9:03 pm

if i was Hillary i would say that i will wait till the deal is done before i make a judgement!

        • April 22, 2015 at 9:07 pm

But the idea is they’re asking her so she’ll make PBO rethink the whole thing over again.
It’s just really stupid and divisive.

          • April 22, 2015 at 9:13 pm

it s more to put her on the spot…than anything else…so i would just refuse to play the game

            • April 22, 2015 at 9:20 pm

Dems are waaaay out on a limb and they’re looking for life support. I have no idea what she’ll do and at this point, I don’t really care. PBO can handle this just like he’s always handled everything else.

I saw where Tweety said that Bill Clinton supports it. Of course her support stmt will be some calculated response nonetheless.

According to Warren the senators who have been briefed are not allowed to tell others what is in the TPP. If that is the case how would Hillary be able to speak up not knowing what is in the TPP? She is not in any government position to be able to know the information.

Unfortunately, Dems fight most within than outside their own party.
      Hence, this quote:

I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat.

      Will Rogers

      Dems are not Ditto Heads.
No doubt, Dems will be against TTP. If they didn’t, they would not be who they claim to be. POTUS believes in this TTP. He will get it done. But Debates must be heard. We The People will live with it one way or another. I am glad that POTUS is speaking out and looking out for USA.

2010 and 2014……there was not a well organized Dem Votes for victory. Kaine and Debbie W-S did very little.
2008 and 2012, in 2008 there was the 50 state strategy and in 2012, the Obama Team heavily focus on the states they knew they would win.

50 state strategy is a great way to activate Dems in 50 states……especially with state and local elections…….Today, GOPers control WI, PA, OH, MI, NC, WVa and VA state Houses.

      • April 22, 2015 at 9:19 pm

i think it is a good strategy…building a grass roots organization in every state…

It is, and the President did that very successfully for the 2008 election. So…I guess you need more than the 50 state strategy, you need the right candidate. 🙂
