Morning Tn and Chips. Chips, I hope you’re approaching the time when you have your yard to yourself and everything is all done. Next time you take time off from work, let it be to bask in the sun in the south of France or Hawaii. Work vacations are a drag.

    • April 18, 2015 at 7:57 am

Oooooooh Jackie, France or Hawaii sounds wonderful! In a minor state of panic now, I thought after five days the house would resemble a palace, but – gulp – even after this there is still SOOOOO much to be done! I have another week booked off work next month, so I need to plan better this time so that everything will be done. The garden is all sorted, though, which is fab, all the wall/tree collapsing debris is gone, which means Danny can no longer bring branches in to the house and shred them. It looks great, thrilled!

And then I have three weeks booked from the end of July to chill with Danny – it’s time he learned how to build a sandcastle.

That’s good news about the garden and the chill time in July. The thing about home improvements is they NEVER end. Do one thing and it makes something else look glaringly off. Fix one room and the other has to change. Fortunately, I tailor every home improvement to the size of my tax refund. When it’s gone, all improvement mania has to be put on hold for another year. Since the US government is not overly generous with my refunds, I have to place myself very, very slowly. I will have to live to 110 to get done all the fixes I want and by then I probably will no longer care.

        • April 18, 2015 at 8:27 am

“Do one thing and it makes something else look glaringly off.”

Oh crikey, that is SO true. I had a room decorated downstairs and turned in to a guest room, it’s really lovely now – but makes EVERYWHERE else downstairs look awful! But it is just so costly to get the redecorating done, so I definitely have to stagger it too otherwise there’d be nothing left for new indestructible toys for Danny.

Good Morning TOD, I dread yard work, the last time my wife asked me if I wanted to help her do some “minor” yard work I ended up going to home depot and getting over twenty-five bags of mulch. Even to this day when my wife asks me if I want to sit out back and have dinner I cringe.

        GM Don and TODville.

One of the reasons I haven’t been commenting much on TOD is because of my recent interest (i.e., obsession, LOL) with gardening — I’m doing stuff for my babies (plants) until it gets dark, and by then it’s around midnight for most folks on TOD. 😦

And this is just patio gardening — yard gardening is waaayyyy too much work, agree so much with Don about doing yard work. Such a great hubby, diligently tending to his “Honey Do” list.

Don, I post this link for you, as I know how much you appreciate my cryptic lunation cycle information which include exactly NO elaboration on what the heck it all means!! Alan Oken is a well-known astrologer/writer/teacher/metaphysician and a dear friend of mine for over 30 years. If you have time and the interest, you may want to read over a bit of what he publishes on his FB page. He makes it much easier to understand what the ancient science of astrology is about. ❤ (if you can fit in some reading between yard work!) 😉

    Morning MUST READ

    http://www.politicususa.com/2015/04/18/revolution-over-friends.html

    Hijacking freedom and liberty…

Conservatives are more than willing to help out with definitions by imposing their either/or paradigm. They are the ones who stand for freedom. Liberalism is a mental disorder, something better in theory than in practice. And indeed, they have controlled “freedom” discourse in this country for a long time, even while they themselves are freedom’s greatest enemies.

And look at how it has worked out: Religious Tyranny disguised as Religious Freedom laws. The right to persecute and to discriminate, to make some more equal than others, is somehow freedom: simply put, restricting freedom is somehow freedom, and granting more freedom is somehow tyranny.

Inside the facility itself, the most amazing interiors, beautifully built. And for all you Star Wars fans, an incredible collection and display of all his memorabilia.

Now is a great time to be from Illinois, represented by the heroic Dick Durbin — still scratching my head over Chuck Shumer replacing Harry Reid — haven’t cared for that windbag for 20 years, and now it seems like he’s about as progressive as Hillary Clinton (which, judging by her #Campaign2016 logo mean she’ll be drifting further right — I expect to see her voice “progressive” views only on issues that pertain to women.

      From the article:
“Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) took to the Senate floor and compared the nominee to [Rosa] Parks.

‘Loretta Lynch, the first African American woman nominated to be attorney general, is asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar’ Durbin said. ‘That is unfair. It’s unjust.’”

Mornin’ y’all. As sjterrid recommended last night, Jim Wright at Stonekettle does a brilliant piece as usual, putting things into perspective and setting out the brass tacks. It helped me a lot to level out the buffeting winds of ‘silly season’ starting. Right now, only one candidate has declared for the Dem party, and everyone hopped on the rollercoaster, before the first week was up. It still hasn’t been a full week, so we all need to get a grip. Will post the link again here, with h/t to sjterrid for her attention on it. http://www.stonekettle.com/

    I find it a hard read, but hang in there, the end is what it is all about. Then I went in and signed up with The Obama Foundation, because that is where Truth and Integrity can always be found and acted upon. ❤ {{{{{ TOD }}}}}

    Good morning TOD.

I don’t know if this will interest anybody here but the election in Britain is on May 5.

Ed Milliband for Labour—-sort of Democratic David Cameron for the Tories–entirely RW.

What is interesting to me is that in September when Scotland had a referendum to separate from England, Milliband stood with Cameron in favor of a United Scotland-England. This lost Milliband so many Scottish voters who used to support Labour, that the election in May will almost certainly go to re-election of David Cameron. The SNP leader is a woman named Nicola Sturgeon and she is young dynamic and popular. The SNP (Scottish National Party) is expected to drain away much of Ed Milliband’s Labor votes.

Pitting David against Ed. Or, as some pundits are saying the choice is between RW or RW lite.

Also of some interest, David Axelrod has been advising Milliband and Jim Messina has been with Cameron.
Isn’t it fitting, an early HRC spokesperson working with the Tories?

    • 44 Nena20409
      April 18, 2015 at 3:51 pm

DAxelrod and JMessina all worked their butts off to help get Pres Obama elected.
Messina has known POTUS much longer than HRC.
Tories today in UK are more closely to Liberal GOPers or Moderate/Conservative Dems.
These guys are consultants and Campaign Managers……they are hired for their skills. It is a highly paid profession for those who have winning records.

Reminder to everyone why President Obama and world leaders such as Italy PM Renzi cannot get an ounce of print or broadcast airtime — in fact, I see that @nytimes home page has an article this morning doubting US’s influence on the world economy (because of dysfunctional DC), which is in DIRECT contradiction from what PM Renzi said at YESTERDAY’s press conference:

Repeating Feb tweets — worth your time to understand why your twitter feed is filled with all-2016-all-the-time, and why the tweets seems to be getting stupider (and more repetitive) every day:

Let’s take our country back….. to the past

APRIL 18th, 1946 – Davis Knight Marries Junie Lee Spradley in Mississippi

On April 18, 1946, a thirty-two-year-old Navy veteran named Davis Knight married Junie Lee Spradley, a white woman. In June 1948, the state indicted Mr. Knight for violating a law that prohibited “marriage or cohabitation between white persons and those with one-eighth or more Negro or Mongolian blood.” At trial, Mr. Knight insisted that he was white: his wife believed him to be white and his Navy service records listed him as white. The State set out to prove he was black.

The whole case turned on the race of Mr. Knight’s deceased great-grandmother, Rachel; if she was black, Mr. Knight was at least one-eighth black and guilty of the charge.

In just 17 yrs ago…..1998, the Fav for inter-racial marriage in USA was at 48%.
      That is 52 years…….1946-1998.
USA is unfortunately scared of Brown and Black skin. Those who prefer the yesteryears are still fighting just as hard……but slowly, they are now in the Minority. Time is passing them by.

NEWS …………….No greater threat to planet than climate change — Obama
    Saturday, April 18, 2015 | 9:51 AM

WASHINGTON, United States (AFP) — US President Barack Obama said Saturday that climate change poses the world’s biggest single threat.

“Today, there’s no greater threat to our planet than climate change,” Obama said in his weekly address, which had an environmental theme to mark Earth Day on April 22.

“Climate change can no longer be denied, or ignored,” he added, noting that 2014 was the hottest year on record.

  28. April 18, 2015 at 1:31 pm

My response to someone on Facebook who made a comment about ‘isn’t it interesting that President Obama uses the same words that Clinton used to describe NAFTA to describe the TPP.
    “Mary Jones
That doesn’t mean it’s the same deal. It probably means that when using words to describe trade deals there is a certain set of words that people use. It also doesn’t mean that if you feel President Clinton used those words to deceive, President Obama is using them the same way. For six years I have heard President Obama say exactly what he means and deliver on his promises. Why would I assume that this time he is selling us out? By the same token I have heard the same people assuming that the things PBO proposes are terrible, a betrayal, a sell out. The ACA and the Iran negotiations are but two examples. And every time they have been proven wrong. Why would I automatically assume they’re right this time? Many of the people promoting this nonsense have their own agendas: clickbait, donations, outrage-fueled political support. President Obama has proved to me that his motivations are to make our country and our world better and safer, to protect the rights of all citizens, and to strengthen our democracy. And he does this by thoroughly understanding the issues he is dealing with and always having a well thought out and strategic long-range plan. And unless he proves me wrong, I will continue to believe and trust President Obama. He’s earned it.”

The original hair on fire post was from The Coffee Party, a group I should have unfriended a long time ago. This exchange is at the bottom of a long series of replies quoting everyone from Robert Reich to Bill Moyer. Why are these people promoting this daft nonsense? Is it somehow an effort to build support for Rodham Clinton? It makes no sense to me. Very little makes any sense to me and if I didn’t have this page to come yuk, with all you experienced, knowledgeable people I don’t know what I’d do. So many don’t believe the evidence of their own senses.

Thank you, Maryl, I ❤ your response, and I ❤ even more the fact that you gave it in the venue you did. It's always *easier* for people to attack PBO and I see a lot of that, so I relish this calm, rational push-back. Thanks also for sharing it here so that others may use it if they need/want to.

I also note that when I try to Swype “Chelsea on my kindle fire tablet it gives me “Cheese”.
