NerdyW, you make me smile so often (because I never succeed in pulling too many words out of you…and I do try periodically)! 😀 I suppose you’ve finished watching Scandal for the night?

BTW, did you watch that vintage video of PBO sharing an excerpt from his 1st book and answering questions related to his younger self? I recommend it if you haven’t watched it before.

Indeed Mighty P! It always moves me to near tears when our youngest citizens treat our President with the sincerity of their respect and admiration – when most of them weren’t even born (or barely alive) when he first took office. It’s as if they know him like family because he’s been their President for their whole lives…

Thank you Nerdy for this delightful gallery of our sunny President enjoying his day. Bill signing outside with sleeves rolled up!
The President doesn’t appear to be unsettled at all by the things driving some of us (and me) crazy these days.

I doubt the TPP is a bad idea however loud the screaming gets. Since Ed is leading this I’m chalking it up to an emo attack. Yes? No?

    • 31 sjterrid
      April 16, 2015 at 9:40 pm

Vicki, Yes with Ed it’s definitely an emo attack.

      • 32 sjterrid
        April 16, 2015 at 9:45 pm

Too many people think that this is just like the NAFTA bill that was passed. This bill, however, corrects a lot of the things that was wrong with it. There are a lot of protections for labor and environmental concerns in the agreement. It will be interesting to see how Hillary runs on this issue. Since it was Bill Clinton that signed it.

          April 16, 2015 at 9:54 pm

          Good points, sjterrid.
Plus, If PBO is strongly for this bill I’m sure the good outweighs the minuses.

    • 34 jackiegrumbacher
      April 16, 2015 at 9:52 pm

Vicki, I’m sick of the viciousness of the anti TPP attacks, especially as they involve Democrats turning against the President. I heard a number of so-called Dems today screaming that the President didn’t know what he was doing, that TPP is the same as NAFTA and that they are being ‘betrayed’ by the administration. I’m angered beyond words that after all these years the self-righteous know-it-alls, who don’t actually bother to read the facts, are quick to condemn the president without trial. At this point there are local Democrats I know that would I rather not see again because of their complete lack of faith and trust in our President. They always “know better” than the President, even though they themselves cannot be elected to even the most trivial local office. This is one time when I will be happy to see TPP passed with Republican votes.

jackie, i couldn’t agree with you more. On each of your points.

      • 36 Judith Fardig
        April 16, 2015 at 10:00 pm

I totally agree, Jackie. The emo left and the environmentalists have decided to rail about the TPP with no faith in President Obama to do WHAT HE SAYS HE WILL to protect workers and the environment. I think it’s a business model for too many to gin up outrage almost as bad as the right does. UGH!

        • 37 jackiegrumbacher
          April 16, 2015 at 10:04 pm

Yes, Judith, and it’s the reason why we don’t work always together successfully as a party to get people elected and push important issues. There are always those who have to pull against the team because they are somehow smarter than everyone else and can shout the loudest.

      • 38 sjterrid
        April 16, 2015 at 11:25 pm

I received an email from AFLCIO this morning warning abut the TPP, which I quickly deleted.

I’m not sure but isn’t the AFLCIO backing the Keystone Pipeline being built, even though it offers very few permanent jobs and who knows what damage it will cause to the environment, but yet with all the jobs that this President has enabled construction workers, with no help from republicans, yet they don’t think that he would consider all options before he signed the TPP. I trust the President.

Honestly, since my President is for it, and it’s complicated I’m for it. It’s only out of a sense of responsibility that I will read up about it and go through the headache. To paraphrase the prez “I like to know what I’m speaking about.” Ha!
It’s funny how now I expect loud screaming for everything now Vicki.

  11. April 16, 2015 at 9:38 pm

Looking at these pics, I’m reminded of what an extraordinary, and transformational, person this one is… He is never not consummately “present,” whatever he’s doing, and whoever he’s with. It is totally amazing. I cannot imagine anyone else, ever, being what he is, in his position… I’d forgotten how spoiled I’ve become with him as our President. “President” seems a small word to describe who he is… Dang!

What I love about our president is his almost superhuman ability to rise above the viciousness around him and never descend to the level of his detractors. He has the most extraordinary patience to explain something again and again and again, even though the people he’s speaking close their ears and will not listen to anything he says. Since I’m an ordinary and very failed human being, I get angry at people who refuse to listen to anything but themselves. I’m resentful of the viciousness and unforgiving of the relentless attacks. We would be a better country and a much more empathetic society if we could all follow our President’s example.

Beautifully put, as usual. Love the man. If we would all try to emulate him, oh what a country we’d have, as you said.

I am putting my energy into identifying and volunteering for candidates who support PBO and his agenda, and promoting socio-economic justice. I Can’t spend my limited time on Dems who are putting the agenda of the rich first

PBO has asked us to reject the GOP budget that penalizes the poor and guts the social safety net. He has also asked us to speak out against the GOP vote to eliminate the estate tax. Can we as TOD push some activism on these issues?
