Democrat Or Republican? ObamaCare Has Your Back

Amy Lynn Smith: Having Faced A Medical Bankruptcy, Republican Has A Change Of Heart About The ACA

When health insurance became available through Healthcare.gov last year, Theresa had her doubts about the Affordable Care Act (ACA). As a fiercely independent small business owner — and a Republican — the only news she saw about Obamacare was negative. Theresa says she’s grateful she didn’t listen to the people who told her Obamacare was “bullsh*t.” Through Healthcare.gov, she found a Silver plan for just $94 per month, with the help of tax credits. About six years ago, Theresa had polyps on her vocal cords and her doctor told her if she didn’t have surgery she could choke on them or bleed to death. Plus, there was a chance the polyps could turn cancerous.

Theresa didn’t have a choice, but without insurance her surgeons demanded payment in advance. She says the surgery and subsequent care cost her “tens of thousands of dollars.” Fortunately, starting in January 2015 Theresa will have health insurance that’s accepted by all her doctors, with a $700 annual deductible and $1,450 out-of-pocket maximum limit. It will cost her just a $20 co-pay to see her primary physician and $50 to see a specialist. She can’t wait to schedule all her check-ups, including the necessary follow-up on the remaining polyps she couldn’t afford to have removed.

My feelings boil down to this: I want a healthy Democratic primary. I’m not really excited for Hillary Clinton, but if it boils down to her and a GOP candidate? Then yeah, I want her to win.

Before I went out today I wrote that Bill de Blasio said he was waiting for HRC’s platform and stance on issues before he endorsed her.
I got this news on my local station. I didn’t realize until I returned home and opened my computer that the remarks were made on Meet The Press.
    I find this shocking.
Also shocking was the nasty defensive tweets from Hilary Rosen.

Imagine if PBO reacted to everything as if it was an existential threat? With us or against us. This small blip on the screen is not a good sign of a campaign fought on issues.

      Cannot.stand.HRC and #Hillaryland.

Gonna have to unfollow some people whose tweets I really like because they are now all-Hillary-all-the-time, and for frigging sake, the FIRST caucus happens 10 months from now — #Campaign2016 coverage is worse than a joke now.

This is how any Dem worth his/her salt should respond, and Chafee is a former GOP Governor of RI.

Listen, I think Hillary is a good person, and she’s a credit to her race. But this is for the Presidency of the United States of America. I just don’t think at this time someone like her can protect and advance America forward. She doesn’t look like we do, and she’s exotic. I mean has anyone seen her birth certificate? And that last name, Rodham? Is it foreign, it sounds foreign. And before anyone starts, I’m not racist, some of my best friends are white. The guy that does my lawn is white. I’m just saying that we need to hold on before we give her the keys to the kingdom.

There is no way that a Republican can lead this country. They are too dangerous – for the country, and the world.

Hello TODers!!! Congrats on first NCLB!!!

I have been listening to the MSM saying that PBO has *endorsed* HRC for President. Did he really endorse her or did he just list some attributes that would make a good candidate and potentially a good POTUS?

I doubt that PBO would say anything negative about HRC or any other potential democratic candidate. You don’t want to give the GOP (or any other opponents) ammunition for the general election. [That’s pretty much what happened with the GOP during the 2012 primaries.]

I agree NW…I would like to see a real Democratic primary. I don’t like the assumption that HRC will be the Democratic nominee. It’s shouldn’t be a given, just like it wasn’t a given in 2008.

    • April 12, 2015 at 6:33 pm

He most definitely did not endorse her, swbluega.

Yes, let’s focus on insisting on a robust Dem Primary!!

      It’s all MSM hype.

My mouth is agape when I hear what passes as “political reporting” on the local CBS news radio affiliate.

MSM is ONLY reporting that HRC is the ONLY Dem candidate — 10 months before the first caucus, and 5 months before 2016 campaign actually begins (after Labor Day). MSM is pushing this meme because they are part of the military industrial complex and must receive kickbacks from contractors when the US goes to war.

MSM leapt on PBO’s response to the idiotic MSM yesterday. They are clueless that it would be SO inappropriate now to endorse @VP Biden now, in April — my hunch is that @VP Biden will launch his campaign in August, the same time of year that PBO announced Man My Joe as his VP choice in 2008 (I know this is the equivalent of 2007 in #Campaign2016 cycle, but still think this will happen in the Aug-Sep timeframe). MSM will be lolling about in the Hamptons or fly fishing at the Cheney ranch or kicking back at the McCain Sedona spread, getting fatter and stupider as this happens.

“The Vatican has long opposed nuclear weapons, but Pope Francis is making the cause one of the top diplomatic priorities of his two-year-old papacy. In December, the Vatican submitted a paper calling for total nuclear disarmament to the Vienna Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons. In January, Pope Francis touted nuclear disarmament as a major goal alongside climate change in his speech to the Vatican’s diplomatic corps. And on Easter Sunday, he publicly prayed that the prospective multi-nation deal to halt Iran’s nuclear weapons program would be “a definitive step toward a more secure and fraternal world.” Many observers expect the Pope to raise the topic in his speech to the United Nations in September, especially as that event also commemorates the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s historic U.N. speech calling for “never again war, never again war.”

…“Pope Francis has recently pushed the moral argument against nuclear weapons to a new level, not only against their use but also against their possession,” Archbishop Bernedito Auza, the Holy See’s Ambassador to the U.N., says. “Today there is no more argument, not even the argument of deterrence used during the Cold War, that could ‘minimally morally justify’ the possession of nuclear weapons. The ‘peace of a sort’ that is supposed to justify nuclear deterrence is specious and illusory.” The Vatican push on nuclear weapons comes as the United States is in the final stages of negotiating a deal with Iran and as 190 parties that have supported the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty prepare for its five-year review….continued”

    GA TODville.

Back to North Charleston for a moment.

The Guardian claims to have obtained a recording of #WalterScott’s murderer and a supervising PD officer:

    From the article:

“In the recording from the dashcam in Slager’s radio car, the officer can be heard asking: ‘What happens next?’ The senior officer, whose identity is not clear from the recording, told him that he would be collected by other officers and taken to police headquarters.

‘Probably once they get you there, we’ll take you home. Take your crap off, take your vest off, kind of relax for two or three.’

‘It’ll be real quick,’ he said. ‘They’re gonna tell you you’re gonna be out for a couple of days and you’ll come back and they’ll interview you then. They’re not going to ask you any kind of questions right now. They’ll take your weapon and we’ll go from there. That’s pretty much it.’”

Another arrest in North Charleston, but without the dire consequences of the #WalterScott murder:

    • 43 99ts
      April 12, 2015 at 7:09 pm

“The senior officer again reassured Slager that he would not have to explain the shooting on the record immediately. “The last one we had, they waited a couple of days to interview officially, like, sit down and tell what happened,” he said.”

Give them a couple of days to sort out their story. Imagine how much time a non-police person gets before they are interviewed after killing someone by shooting them in the back!

I should have been more specific….lowest score reached (-19) …. tied for lowest finish with Tiger (-18)…. 2nd youngest winner by 6 months (Tiger ’97) ….first wire-to-wire winner in 39 years.

        …and a class act

It’s really very simple, we are a democracy not a monarchy, though it’s very clear that if we do not defeat the #KOCHSTERS on 8 Nov 16, we can kiss any notion of the American version of democracy good bye.

We simply will have watched a bunch of rich folk achieve what Jeff Davis failed to do because we didn’t have a strong candidate or/and we didn’t VOTE.

Nothing will come close the original Season 1 but this interests me

“A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.”

“O’Malley has another song up his sleeve: he’s bringing heart to the crucial Iowa caucus. An all-but-declared candidate, O’Malley is preparing for a committed campaign in Iowa, recruiting staff, courting local activists, and touring the Hawkeye state’s cities and backwater towns. His roots in the state go back to 1983, when he spent months campaigning for presidential candidate Gary Hart. Now, he is massaging Iowa voters as the 2016 campaign gets underway, courting local progressives and firing up the base.

As Hillary Clinton prepares to officially launch her presidential campaign on Sunday, many Iowans are already frustrated with the former secretary of state. She’s been too slow to announce her candidacy, they say, and she hasn’t visited the state since October. Iowa liberals say she appears emotionally uninvolved, as she did in 2007, when her loss to Senator Barack Obama set her on the road to defeat. Iowa Democrats expect a robust primary campaign in their state. Nature abhors a vacuum, and O’Malley has swooped in.”

        To say the least, meta.

Today these things happened, NY edition.
        1) Mayor Bill de Blasio appears on Meet The Press and says he wants to hear HRC’s platform and stance on issues before he endorses her.
        2) HRC spokesperson insults Bill de Blasio in a few mean and ugly tweets.
        3) First big endorser from NY Andrew Cuomo is all in .
        4) Chuck Schumer calls HRC “Our candidate.”

The NY primary will be a make or break if Iowa doesn’t go for HRC.
So the NY politicians alliances matter.

In case you are not aware, Andrew Cuomo came very close to losing his primary for NY Governor to an unknown and very Progressive woman named Zephyr Teachout.
Bill de Blasio annhiliated the DINO Chris Quinn in his NYC Mayoral primary..

I wondered what it signified that HRC placed her headquarters in B’Klyn, de Blasio’s home and Progressive turf. Apparently the Mayor is not thrilled with this.

Cuomo+ Schumer= the new, progressive HRC??????? Good luck selling that in my city and state.

          Thank you, Vicki. Just as I was logging off earlier, I saw you had posted about Mayor DeBlasio and his excellent and acceptable comment. Why on earth would anyone come out rallying around a candidate, any candidate, without knowing who else might be running? That is madness, I feel. Without a doubt there is a brainwashing effort going on here, but PBO has been very effective with helping all of us understand how much we each matter, how much we MUST think for ourselves and not buy into the hype. It is all hype right now, and is going to be hype for many months. For many of these rich white folks, it’s all a game, our lives are a game. No more. Those days are passed, President Obama has set the bar for Leadership so high, they will all be standing on each others shoulders to try and grab onto it. Of course he is not going to endorse anyone, that would lead to an enormous shitfight, and he knows it all too well. Why on earth would he even think to get into it with anyone. He has work to do, he is living up to his commitment to his work, to his office. He did not run all those years ago because his heart wasn’t in it, or because he thought it would be cool to be the first AA president. Not a single one of them gets who he is, even after all these years. That is mind boggling to me. Never have we seen someone as open minded and open hearted as Barack Hussein Obama, someone who has nothing to hide and who has brought his all to our country and our world. I gotta go now for a while. It’s been a long day and I am tired and hungry and in pain. Back to catch up again later. Many blessings to all of us, we will need them! God Bless and keep our President and his family sane and safe through the mess which is descending on us for the next little while. Love you guys! {{{{{ ❤ TOD ❤ }}}}}

Someone basically thought the “not all white women” part of my response to a tweet that said white women were to blame for the Dems loss in the past, was an excuse, when I was saying that there are some of us women, who are white, that love PBO and have been major supporters of his presidency, and voted for D’s, but they said that what I said was basically a, “not all white women..crap”. Betsy, thank you for letting us know what happened. The KKKoch-funded KKKGOP has been punishing white peeps for voting for PBO since 2009. I mean think about it. These wingnuts were so enraged by PBO’s election, they didn’t want white folks to have a job, UI benefits, healthcare, equal pay for women, education for their children, and preventive and early intervention healthcare services for women. The general election is going to probably go down as the most ugly and dangerous in history. In 2016, it will be dangerous to vote. That’s right. Dangerous! So when the times comes no matter who the nominee is we need to be of one accord – no matter what our color or gender or religious preference or sexual orientation. – one accord to make sure no wingnut occupies the WH. And we need to take back the Congress from the traitors and terrorists.

Hey Vicki – never are you boring & pedantic. I googled your google – seems every thing was tried to get Hillary over the line – PBO has had to fight all sides to get where he is – but I think he knew that. He has done wonders for the US despite ALL political parties and the media. I cannot imagine the US after his term is gone. No words.

I can still remember thinking the US democrats were crazy giving their choice between a women and a non-white guy for President. In my wildest dreams I never thought the people of the US would vote for other than an old white guy. I am so glad that I was proven completely and decisively wrong.

    Last entry for a while;
If you Google 2008 NYC Democratic Presidential Primary Recount you will find it interesting to say the least.
Senator Obama did not get a single vote in Upper Manhattan triggering an uproar and a recount.

I see this was written a few weeks ago by Spandan but I had missed it. It’s a great analysis of Elizabeth Warren.

“But didn’t she provide oversight for the Treasury’s implementation of the Financial Rescue? Why yes, she did. Didn’t she do the grunt work in setting up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which was her brainchild to begin with? Also true.

So can’t it be said she’d accomplished a great deal? Yes… But not as a Senator. In other words, to be crass about it, she’d made next to no real accomplishments in her time in government when Barack Obama wasn’t holding her hand.

After all, by this time in his career in the US Senate, a major nuclear nonproliferation law already bore Senator Obama’s name – in a Republican controlled Senate no less along with a Republican president (Obama’s work on nuclear nonproliferation as a relatively new legislator in Washington was cited in his Nobel commendation).”

Without POTUS setting up a platform for her Elizabeth Warren is full of sound and fury; signifying nothing. This is the type of politician the Daily Kos crowd loves, the female version of Alan Grayson.
