First Lady Michelle Obama Honors Those Who Give Their All For The Country

Cindi Leive: Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kerry Washington: The Important Cause Bringing Three Powerhouse Women Together

First Lady Michelle Obama and actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Kerry Washington are sitting in the Blue Room at the White House. This trio of female forces, who know one another through their work on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, aren’t here just to catch up on life. They’re here today to spread a crucial message: This Memorial Day, America’s servicewomen, veterans, and military wives—courageous women—need our help. Over a decade ago, during the height of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, our servicemen and -women were constantly in the public eye, in newspapers, music videos, car commercials. Today, most of the more than 2.5 million men and women who deployed are home safe—but they deserve just as much attention as when they were braving IEDs and insurgents.

obama-parker-washington-group-shot-watermark-w724

During this reentry period, advocates point out, many veterans face hardships (from homelessness and unemployment to post-traumatic stress disorder and the effects of sexual trauma), and we can’t underestimate the support they need. MO: One thing I want to clarify—that every service member, veteran, wants us to remember—is that the vast majority of people returning from service come back completely healthy…. But when we do come across someone who is struggling…we have to develop a culture of open arms and acceptance so that they feel comfortable saying, “I’m a veteran. And by the way, I need little help.” Think about the amount of training the average veteran has received through the military—physical training, project management training, public relations work. Think of an average tour of duty in a foreign land, the money we put into developing that, and then they’re discharged, and what, we let that investment go? Absolutely not. These are some of the best-trained people in our society.

      Thanks for posting it, Chiparoo. I was stuck in the wormhole of the new Twitter update. LOL.

      [Strong Language Advisory]

      Hey, Chips. I need you to go to this tweet on Twitter and keep clicking the links that show up underneath subsequent tweets. Don’t click on everything because you’ll be trapped on Twitter forever. It’s like freaking Inception. Twitter is taking us to a tweet within a tweet within another tweet within another tweet.

        NW, you are making it easy to stay away from Twitter!!

          Hahahaha. It’s insane. Now, we have to wait for them to clear up the kinks so we know who can see the tweets in their mentions and who can’t.

          Imagine them rolling this out on Monday. People would have thought they’d gotten high by osmosis.

        It will only happen if we force the issue. It’s the good ole boy system in the Senate and only a Democrat can openly defy his sitting President and then be handed the leadership role. It makes my blood boil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Three million small(under $200.00) donors helped PBO over the finish line in 2012 up from one million in 2008. (enthusiasm gap, my ass)
    3 million donations are 3 million Guaranteed votes. Koch and Boeing commercials will not impress them.

    In my next e-mail to Sen. Schumer I will point out that those 3 million votes may very well be history if the Democratic Party continues to disappear. Stand with President Obama or lose again, just like in 2014.

    • April 7, 2015 at 6:28 pm

      Vicki ,,,”this is my greatest fear,,,,that we may lose the WH in 2016,,,never underestimate the enemy…although they put up another Bush…Rand Paul or Ted Cruz…..those voters will come out….(they don’t much care who wins as long as it is not a Dem)….will the Dems come out

      • 29 Vicki
        April 7, 2015 at 6:54 pm

        I share the fear, pf.
        People laughed when I said that Alison L Grimes ran to lose. The “distancing from PBO” was a deliberate strategy to depress our turnout and insure a GOP takeover. We lost in too many races for the exact same reasons to be able to make any case for coincidence.
        Nobody is laughing now. We all can see that the democratic party is in trouble.

        I’m not clear on what the end game is. Other than undermining Our President every chance they can make for this.

        Scorched earth? Schumers annointment feels like the destruction of liberal hope that Rahm dreamed of. Remember when he called progressives F—g idiots?

        For me—I will enjoy every second of PBO’s term and do whatever I can to elect decent dems. If and when i can find them.

    Good Afternoon TODVille.

    Bad news:

    Russian hackers behind the damaging cyberintrusion of the State Department in recent months used that perch to penetrate sensitive parts of the White House computer system, according to U.S. officials briefed on the investigation.

    The White House has said the breach affected an unclassified system. But that gave the hackers access to such sensitive information as real-time nonpublic details of the President’s schedule.

    The State Department computer system has been bedeviled by signs that despite efforts to lock them out, the Russian hackers have been able to re-enter the system. One official says the Russians have “owned” the State Department system for months.

      “President Obama needs to stop and think – how does this end?” What is this messaging, other than to call your senators? I find this confusing in how it portrays PBO as carrying on a series of wars which were already in progress, which created the situations he has spent his presidency defusing.

    Having lived through the hostage crisis and revolution in Iran, never thought I’d see the day in my lifetime when it is the UNITED STATES Congress who may make it impossible to forge a deal and work to kill it while in Iran the hardliners are being silenced. The world has turned upside down with these elected idiots. Can’t even imagine what our allies in Europe are thinking reading what is happening here.

    The Iran Project Statement on the Announcement of a Framework for a Comprehensive Nuclear Agreement with Iran April 6, 2015

    We welcome the announcement that the U.S. government and other major world powers have reached a framework accord to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. This achievement is the result of the sustained effort of the Foreign Ministers of seven governments spanning nearly 18 months, to put in place a set of constraints and inspections that would limit Iran’s nuclear program to peaceful purposes. While technical details are still to be fully resolved, important U.S. objectives have been achieved:

    *uranium enrichment only at the Natanz plant and no enrichment at the underground facility at Fordow;

    *prohibition of the Arak heavy water research reactor from producing weapons grade plutonium or reprocessing to recover plutonium from spent fuel;

    *a reduction and then a limit on Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium to 300 KG for 15 years; broad and sweeping inspections and other constraints;

    *a two-thirds reduction in installed centrifuges for ten years; a range of limitations and inspections that will be in force over a 10-25 year period and some permanent inspections of the program. We recognize that full evaluation must await a final comprehensive agreement. Important, difficult, and ambiguous issues still remain. Their resolution will be key to the solidity of the final agreement and its support in this country. They include:

    *what means will be used to limit the stockpile of Iran’s enriched uranium to 300 Kg of LEU for 15 years …continued

        I wonder if his Boo is going down, also?
        She probably left him a long time ago.
        I do not mean to judge.
        But all of the years these wives put into their lives and chose to “stand by your man” is heart wrenching.
        So that brings me to this o/t subject…….

        So what do you do? Go and work for the most intelligent President in history. Run for president yourself after you see how it’s done correctly and show your lying, cheating good for nothing husband/ex-president how it’s done.

        I am having thoughts why HRC is doing this? Is it to get back at us or Bill?
        Either way, I am not comfortable with her and Chuck Schumer in the Situation Room deciding shit!
        I had a great walk this morning and I am not playing with the backstabbers. I have called Schumer’s number so many times I took a nap on the last one. I am ready to start over tomorrow. I never felt good about him. Now, I know why.

        I’m sorry and maybe it’s the cynic in me after the mid-term elections but I just think it’s a damn shame the way we have to push and prod and beg our voters to get out to the polls. Republicans just keep up on election day and go vote.

        I hope they have a decent turnout. I am reading on FB that there is some flooding near St. Louis this evening.

        • April 7, 2015 at 7:39 pm

          i think GOP voters are driven to the polls based on hatred and evil…they are tricked into voting against their own interests….their hatred is stoked within them….this is how they get their voters to the polls…we have to inspire Hope and Change to get our voters to the polls…The DNC needs to do what it can to organize folks to vote..my question is …why don’t they

          Donna, I wonder if instead of pushing and prodding a ‘fun’ way could be found to educate (dem) voters at local levels. Maybe if they understand or are reminded that their lives are intimately impacted at the local level, leading up to the state level they’d wake up? I don’t know.

    This is about using Israel as a rouse to advance the global neocon agenda, which has seen its influence wane in the wake of the Obama doctrine and in the aftermath of America’s two longest wars. Bibi Netanyahu has evidently proven a worthy heir to Dick Cheney and George Bush for neocons worldwide, and they have enlisted Schumer as one of their frontmen.
