Good morning all. VC, we all know you wake up early with a smile on your face, ready to face the day in any way. It’s the rest of us who linger longer in our beds than is strictly necessary. So, you see, Chips was just being extra kind of a sleepyhead like me.

GM, JackieG. You are such a lovely person to try and excuse unowho1. Don’t tell her, but I also linger in bed reading when I’m feeling too lazy to boot up my laptop. See, a book is always right beside me on the bed!

The impact of that creepy pedophile, Gerry Sandusky, has reached even our planned Hispanic Initiative events. Because of Sandusky, a new PA law requires that every single volunteer who signs up to work for an event that children may attend–even if they’re just serving food–has to be cleared by the state and get a permit. We have about 25 to 30 volunteers at our summer event and this will create a very big headache. It doesn’t matter if it’s a one time event, lasts a few hours or even if parents are present. The permit is a must.

We have something similar here, Jackie – ours is a police check which provides a certificate. We pay a one-time fee (which in some cases is refunded by the organization that first requested the check), and we can use the certificate going forward. In my profession you have to sign a yearly form that your police clearance is still ‘clear’, and yes, volunteers working with kids have to get it too, though not for one time events to my knowledge.

Well, this should, um, help ease the strain between Germany and Greece 😕

The Greek government says Germany owes Greece nearly €279bn (£204bn; $303bn) in war reparations for the Nazi occupation during World War Two.

It is the first time Greece has officially calculated what Germany allegedly owes it for Nazi atrocities and looting during the 1940s.

However, the German government says the issue was resolved legally years ago.

Greece’s radical left Syriza government is making the claim while struggling to meet massive debt repayment deadlines.

The former mayor of the Chinese city of Nanjing, Ji Jianye, has been jailed for 15 years for corruption.

The court in Yantai found Ji guilty of accepting 11.3m yuan ($1.9m; £1.2m) in bribes between 1999 and 2013, when he was dismissed.

As mayor he was nicknamed “Bulldozer” for his heavy promotion of construction and redevelopment in Nanjing.

Ji is the latest high profile official to be jailed under President Xi Jinping’s corruption crackdown.

    Good morning TOD.
I just left a message on Chuck Schumer’s DC phone asking him to back President Obama. I mentioned that I am his constituent living in lower Manhattan and I am Jewish. I closed with “I love The President and I want you to support him.”
    Next, his NY office.
every day until he says something I want to hear.

TOD, when you hear the current RW talking point about the “reasonable” Senator Corker, PLEASE keep in mind that this preening peacock was at the January 2009 Inauguration Day meeting of the cabal to ruin PBO’s Presidency.

The NY Times has a puff piece on Corker and “how he reaches across the aisle, is a bi-partisan co-operative guy” but this is nonsense.
Both Josh Earnest and PBO have been “stroking” Sen. Corker (stroking is what the NY Times is calling it) lately in an effort to contain any damage he will do.

Media is all in with trying to dim the lights on the massive accomplishments of PBO’s Foreign Policy. To recap: Myanmar, Cuba, China climate deal, Cuba

Good morning Chips and TOD! Our Muslim president sure spends a lot of time on Christian holidays:-)

Vicki, thanks so much for doing this. But knowing how slimey all of these bastards are, with your protest you may want to specifically note that you do NOT want him supporting the Corker bill. I have been very specific in my emails and will be in my calls today as well. I just see Schumer saying he is supporting the President but that isn’t contrary to wanting review powers with the Corker bill. And make no mistake, there is nothing bipartisan about Corker. As has been his stance from the beginning, his sole goal is to bring down PBO.

oh, and in Pharrell’s words “Happiness is the truth.”
Dancing in the streets of Tehran for 2 nights is the truth.
Hate and racism in the USA media is lies.
