It really needs to be remembered that the UN Security Council will determine Iran’s fate re: sanctions and that Congress has no sway over the instructions President Obama gives to Ambassador Power as to how the US votes.

The P5+1 (including the US, led by President Obama) are going to do the deal.

The US Congress is merely setting itself up to be, once again, humiliated by President Obama.

True dat Bob. All this is just a bunch of bravado. I wanted to say something else, but I’m in mixed company – like “a bunch of _icks swinging in the wind” πŸ™‚

      April 6, 2015 at 11:29 pm

Yes, that is true with respect to the sanctions issued from the UN but much more is at stake. If the US cannot live up to its commitments under the agreement, it is hard to believe that Iran will continue with it. And I may be wrong, but one of the biggest issues from Iran’s perspective are the banking sanctions imposed by the US. You can bet these sanctions in particular will be part of the final agreement. As I’m sure you can tell, I am appalled by the actions of the US Senate. There will be serious repercussions if the presidential authority to negotiate agreements is undermined,

    • April 7, 2015 at 3:38 am

Bob, as always your tweet is absolutely spot-on! The Iran deal was negotiated by five Permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany and the European Union. While Congress may refuse to lift the Congressional sanctions imposed on Iran, the rest of the world doesn’t have to go along with Congressional idiocy. More importantly. I was not able to participate over the weekend, but I hope you and your family, and all the TOD family members had a wonderful Easter holiday.

For those interested in a detailed analysis of the Corker bill, you can find it here: http://www.lobelog.com/corker-bill-threatens-iran-negotiations/

For summaries of the bill, a couple of articles are:

But again, for me, the biggest issue is the precedent this would set. And anyone who thinks that it this bill would NOT undermine the US is living with blinders. It has been bad enough to watch the shenanigans of the Rs these past 4 years but this is taking things to a whole new level and with the assistance of a number of Dem senators. The American people should be up in arms.

I want all these so called democrats voted out of congress. Live in Washington State if any of my senators vote along these lines I am voting against them.

      • April 7, 2015 at 3:52 am

Jeff, I hear where you are coming from, but our #1 focus should be on putting pressure on them to make sure they support the President on this deal. I am writing my two Senators to strongly urge them to support the President. I don’t want to see more Americans coming home in body bags or maimed for life. Every Senator who wants a war with Iran should be willing to volunteer, or to have his military age children volunteer, to go serve in that war. I am sick and tired of chicken-hawk war mongers who love to sacrifice other people’s children in stupid wars that can never absolutely guarantee the security of this country.

    • April 6, 2015 at 11:05 pm

We need to have this fight, Foxfire.

Interesting aspect of it that Rs seem to be disregarding is that the precedent cuts both ways and imperial presidency’s like Bush’s would be severely constrained if the precedent is set.

Also, it would not surprise me to see President Obama challenge it, should Congress override his veto, at the Supreme Court.

These tools are, in_deed, playing with fire and that FIRE is President Obama and the American people.

        April 6, 2015 at 11:31 pm

Most of the American public fails to understand that this is not a treaty that requires Senate approval. They are NOT paying attention.

        • April 7, 2015 at 6:19 am

Americans do not know much about their government…although i always considered myself astute…i did not know either…i pay more attention know because of the President he has made me a better citizen…but this is cultivate by the “Powers that Be”…and uninformed electorate is an electorate that continues to not vote…not be involved…i heard this morning that 54% of of those polled in NJ support Menendez….just like those same NJ folks voted for Chris Christie….keep in mind ..we have a corporate owned press..who continually muddy the waters and give out misinformation

I am going to spend several hours tomorrow flooding Senate Democrats with phone calls. One of the stupidest things Senate Dems can do is make Schumer Dem leader in the Senate. Do those idiots in the Senate have any idea how that will be perceived by Dems throughout the nation?! Mr. NeW York/Wall Street/Sen AIPAC/smooth old Monopoly Man is in charge. What message does that give Dems throughout the nation? Especial if/when he challenges and sabotages our first AA President? It certainly doesn’t inspire us to believe that the Dems give a damn about any of us ordinary folk. Or about our struggles. Or about the fate of the nation. The BEST thing they could do is put a woman in charge. Like Patty Murphy. Someone who actually seems to give a damn.

      • April 7, 2015 at 4:38 am

There does come time in life when everyone has to make a principled choice. For me, if the designated new leader of Democrats in the U.S. Senate intends to side with Republicans, on this monumental issue of war and peace, against a Democratic elected President of the United States, that will be it for me. I will cease all my support for the national Democratic party. As far as I am concerned, with Democratic friends like Chuck Schumer, who needs Republican enemies.

        • April 7, 2015 at 6:31 am

GM Nath….i will not throw the baby with the bath water…but i do think we need to raise our voices in this matter….Schumer knows that this is not a treaty…but a Security Council resolution…but he is counting on the electorate not knowing or understanding..he also knows that the bill that he would support is unconstitutional….because it is the Executive Branch that handles foreign policy….and could set precedent….and that in all likely hood will be challenged in court by the President….so you have to wonder what this is all about….

.in addition for putting pressure on Schumer…Reid should hear it from us as well…for the same reasons….even though by the time Schumer would take over…the deal would be done..

i wonder if Reid it thinking that in 2016 a DEM will win the WH and that Schumer would be the best person to be Majority Leader….

    Greetings TOD villagers,
Not much of a CNN fan, but thought I’d share the fact that their Facebook video of our FLOTUS doing the #GimmeFive dance to “Uptown Funk” now has over 7 million views and over 125,000 shares as of 1:30 am Pacific Time. That’s our FLOTUS! I have watched it myself at least 20 times. Can’t help it. FLOTUS is an absolutely marvelous dancer and she makes the rest look good. Heck, even the kiddies in the foreground of the video are dancing with her. πŸ™‚
Hope it’s ok to post the link here. Hope it shows up. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=891393110902523&pnref=story

  34. April 7, 2015 at 7:42 am

    Good morning TOD family,
I am just getting sound to catching up from a whole weeks’s worth of powerful, important, fun, amazing information, tweets, videos and everything else in between……
    Thank you ALL!
I am pissed at the Dems. Who for whatever reason are going to just throw this chance for peace away for war.
I called Chuck Schemer’s office last night so angry I am glad they were not there. Just dialing the number helped to calm me down.
I never really trusted him here in NY. He is not what he perceives to be. If he and others are so loyal to Israel then send their own kids to fight their wars.
I struggle every day with the injustices Israel have done and are doing to the Palestinians and sub-Sahara Africans.
It is time for the U.N. to hold them accountable for all of their apartheid regime and investigate what they are hiding and lying about as far as their nuclear arsenals just like everyone else.
I am going to call Chuck all day, tweet and email his number as well. I am not on FB.
It is about time to start my early morning walk. The only that keeps me balance is coming here and walking, even if I must lurk at times.

Morning, LDS. I’m holding on to the certainty that PBO will not sit idly by while these idiots – democratic or otherwise – play the fool on this issue. It *is* part of his personal goals, after all. I remind myself of the healthcare fight.

Enjoy your walk, then come back and give Schumer a piece of your mind. πŸ˜€

    good day!

  36. April 7, 2015 at 7:58 am

VC, I just cannot believe this is happening. I know our President has a plan…..he always does.
And if Harry Reid has a plan with Chuck for the 2016 WH bid, it sure as hell better be VP Joe Biden and not HRC.
She disgusts me so much it is getting difficult to say and write her name. The only plan she has is to become the “first woman” president.
I am so passed that meme, her pantsuits and her husband. Yep, I said that…..
I am glad POTUS and FLOTUS are having fun while they get the job done!
    Enjoy your day!

I will, thank you, LDS. πŸ™‚ I won’t let HRC or Schumer, or any of the others spoil my day.

      • April 7, 2015 at 8:13 am

VC, what are you doing up there?
WP got a hold on you?
I admire you for even posting “visuals”!
My son had to tell me that my tweets were not going anywhere(after a whole year of tweeting)
So, I just wait patiently for our dear Mr. Bobfr and retweet everything he tweets,
        Problem solved……

  37. April 7, 2015 at 8:05 am

    Good day, GCLinda!
It will be even better when I light up Chuck S. phones!
He just irks me in a way that Koch, the Mayor did here in NY.
Arrogant and wrong most of the time, hidden agendas and only their concerns matters.
Others get in line and we will give you the crumbs that are leftover….
Sorry to vent…..I must go for a walk, NOW!

  38. April 7, 2015 at 8:15 am

    Oh, shucks!
    My bad…….wrong post.
