    GM TODville.

    Congrats NW, on #1 — you deserve special recognition for consistently bringing us up-to-date on all the happenings in the world every night (is LL slacking from his DJ and menu presentation duties? 😉 … though I’ve missed a lot here at TOD this week, it might just be my imagination).

    I’m still catching up on the info you provided this week in particular — encourage those in TODville who missed some of your updates to peruse if they have the time.

    BTW, what’s the local update on the catastrophic bridge collapse this week? Such a news-filled week, news on this may have been lost in the “fog of news.”

    As many of us have been saying for some time now, climate change is here now… (another 90F degree day forecast here — it really feels like September [typically SoCal’s hottest month], not cool, refreshing March — every day this winter/Spring has brought us unwelcomed heat waves 😦 ):

      March 28, 2015 at 9:08 am

      Arapaho, I’m sorry about the heat, which is the exact opposite of what’s happening here. It sometimes feels as if our bodies were not made for such climate extremes and the physical toll is going to get harder and harder in the years ahead. I wonder if there’s going to be migration and settlement in Antarctica if these warm temperatures continue there?

    • 13 arapaho415
      March 28, 2015 at 9:28 am

      Typo in comment — meant to say every *month* has brought us a heat wave, not every day — which would be fearsomely worrisome.

      @LAtimes homepage now:

      “Yosemite Falls could go dry in June, 2 months earlier than usual, and the Merced River will probably slow to a shallow stream about the same time.”

      One of the (many) allures of Yosemite are its waterfalls — water should be rushing and cascading down those incredible granite walls in June, NOT disappearing.

      Reminder:

    Good morning. Today is a voter registration drive day and I will be tromping the streets trying to register new voters. In one of life’s little twists of irony, it snowed last night and the temperature is in the 20’s, so it’s going to be a long, very cold slog. Today we’re targeting Latino wards using lists of city residents who aren’t registered to vote. This morning I was thinking about how different it was when we were out registering voters for President Obama. People really wanted to vote for him and were eager to sign up. Local candidates, however worthy, just don’t generate that kind of excitement. Still, as our President so often reminds us, we have to keep taking one step forward no matter how tired we are or how rough the road ahead of us gets.

    It’s our mission to generate an overwhelming people’s mandate for a new $20 bill, to be issued in time for the 100th anniversary in 2020 of the Constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote. Think of it as honoring the vote by casting your vote. The process of commissioning, designing and minting a new bill takes years, so now is a good time to act.

    We’re depending on you, the voters, to spread the word and spark a national conversation about respecting the accomplishments, power and influence of American women. That’s what will make this happen. So like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and email everyone you know with a link to this website. Won’t it be exciting to have a part in transforming American history into our story?

    Morning everyone:) Go vote for what woman should be on paper money. About damn time. Past damn time. h/t BJ

    Yes, we may be at the end of this round of Iran Nuclear Talks and about to get to see the framework;

    I remember two comments someone (some people) shared with us here:

    (1) … world will know that the Iran Nuclear Talks are coming to a conclusion when the remaining “big shot” foreign representatives begin showing up in Switzerland. ..

    => so now we hear the foreign representative of China, France, Germany ..are on the way and so are a couple more..

    (2) …… Israel was given a chance to participate in the Iran Nuclear Talks … so that they could be in a position of contributing to the final framework. However, Bibi decided to stay away and instead undermine the talks … by asking for impossible outcomes.

    => so history will record the arrogance of Bibi and its influence on these Iran Nuclear Talks;

    There are very few do-overs in negotiations like these which are very sensitive and involve multiple national stakeholders, so there goes Bibi’s lack of long-term strategy and constantly believing the hype that he can out-maneuver PBO.

    Can Bibi and his team really understand howthey squandered this critical opportunity to contribute to an issue that they claim is their primary concern when they think of the security of Israel????

    may be I mis-understand the stakes but I believe Bibi blew this one – will his supporters and opposition stop and consider this?

  22. 68 globalcitizenlinda
    March 28, 2015 at 10:17 am

    I suspect that Mark Knoller doesn’t have the full story of what it is PBO is going to do in Florida today;

    Based on what we have observed in the past, PBO may be going to Florida to do more than a golf outing – we may learn the reason later (and talk of golf is just a cover).

    Isn’t the US Central Command headquarter also in Florida?

      Linda you may be right about PBO’s mission…of which Knoller knows diddly squat. This weekend might prove to be hugely significant and historic, given what is going on with the Iran talks (among other things).

    It is a thing of beauty to see President Obama go on a golfing weekend trip to Florida while a nuclear deal is being worked out between Iran and the rest of the world. You are witnessing the power of diplomacy and leadership. Personally I think the golfing trip is a big fuck you to Bibi and the GOP.

    I see Fortune magazine is attempting to get some attention by creating a list of 50 most influential world leaders and leaving PBO off the list (whiel including singer Taylor Swift). This is a pure cry for attention on the author’s/magazine’s part. Catering to the racists out there who feel the deeply personal need to slight their president. Spandan has a nice article on this subject. I will only add that the psychology of the White racist/supremist is as wonder to behold. Healthcare reform that has eluded presidents for decades, eliminating the mastermind behind 9/11, recsuing the U.S. auto industry and the wider economy (more than doubling the stock market), advancing gay rights, leading a multi-national coalition in the fight against ISIS, disarming Syria of its chemical weapons during a civil war all without firing a shot (in fact the author counts this as one of PBO’s greatest “blunders”)…. The color of the president’s skin trumps all of these accomplishments (which I think would have a white president being considered for inclusion of Mount Rushmore). The racists cannot seem to comprehend that when they write stupid shit like this it serves to weaken their argument that it is not race that colors their perception of PBO. For example, Bill Clinton is portrayed as a superior president when he FAILED to get healthcare reform passed, signed Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and DOMA into law, and did not eliminate Bin Laden when he had the opportunity. In addition, if the ACA was to be a failure it would be portrayed/viewed as PBO’s failure, but its success is somehow not portrayed/viewed as PBO’s success. The double standards, goalpost shifting and having to be twice as good to get half the credit are all very familiar to Black Americans. The mindgames racists have to play in order to explain away PBO’s historic presidency must be tiring. The absolute need to create an alternate reality where PBO is incompetent and ineffectual should open everyone’s eyes to the work required to maintain and support the white supremists ideology.
