Morning and congratulations to NCLB who gets first prize and then some. So glad you posted clips from the show, Chips. If any one gets a chance to see ‘The Second Best Marigold Hotel,’ please do. It’s fun and touching and beautiful all at the same time. I hope our President gets a real weekend at home with his family and time to relax, chill and play golf.

  6. March 13, 2015 at 7:49 am

I enjoyed watching the President on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night. PBO was relaxed and Kimmel was a respectful host/interviewer…was even able to inject some of the President’s initiatives into the interview.

    This headline caught my attention…

    =====

“Tea Party Is ‘Bald-Faced Racists,’ White Privilege Conference Speaker Tells Sea Of White People”

    http://dailycaller.com/2015/03/12/tea-party-is-bald-faced-racists-white-privilege-conference-speaker-tells-sea-of-white-people/

    ——

Members of the tea party movement are “screw-loosers” who range from “sort of a generic racism” to “bald-faced racists,” and they tend to become more racist the longer they associate with tea party ideas. Also, “tea partiers are not overly concerned about the economy,” love “gun rallies,” want power in the hands of white people and hate President Barack Obama because he “broke the white monopoly on the presidency.”

Such was the message of a speaker on the first day of this year’s White Privilege Conference…The speaker was Leonard Zeskind…former factory worker turned “social change maker”…“area of expertise is the white nationalist movement.”

“All this business about government and ‘constitutional’ is a smokescreen that’s really all about, ‘I want this country back for me.’ And ‘me’ meaning ‘white people,’” …“We consider the tea party a post-Cold War nationalist group,” …Tea party aficionados “have an internal life around gun rallies”

    • 23 jackiegrumbacher
      March 13, 2015 at 8:12 am

And the sad thing is, SW, that the Republican Party has so incorporated this racist, nationalist entity that they are now one and the same. This is the disgrace and bitter tragedy of our time–that one of two political parties has allowed itself to become totally abased, immoral and anti-democracy for the sake of power and dominance.

      • 24 Don
        March 13, 2015 at 8:21 am

That is a very powerful statement, Jackie. One has to ask if it came about because of a Black President or has it always been there just below the surface waiting for a reason to bubble over?

        • March 13, 2015 at 8:56 am

Don, I have to believe that it’s always been below the surface. It emerged too quickly after PBO was elected to be an emotion unique to them. It supports the claims by minorities of mistreatment over the years. Treatment so subtle that it may have been hard to prove; yet still felt and still a reality to those being abused. But why having a black man in the White House seemed to give license to the racists to be more blatant in their hatred, I will never understand.

        • 26 jackiegrumbacher
          March 13, 2015 at 9:02 am

Don, I believe it was below the surface for some, but not all. There were in my lifetime many decent Republicans who would be be appalled and nauseated by what their party has become. I think that like a deadly virus, a few inflected the many, until the disease metastasized to include the whole. The entire Tea Party movement was conceived, funded and promoted by the Koch Brothers and other billionaires with the aim of using it as a wedge to force out any remaining people of integrity in the GOP. In 2014, they had the great triumph of loading the Senate with the Tea Party, pushing out all reasonable voices and forcing those who might have been reasonable in other circumstances to adapt or be crushed. Now the extremists have total control of both houses of Congress and the American people will either realize the danger and act in massive numbers or we will lose whatever semblance of democracy we have left. The Koch/billionaire complex is buying and controlling a lot of states right now. Their goal is to get control of it all. If they regain the White House, their coup will be complete and we will see the end of our almost 250 year experiment in democracy.

      • March 13, 2015 at 8:48 am

“…the Republican Party has so incorporated this racist, nationalist entity …”

That’s the thing that struck me as well, JackieG. On one hand, they seem to be disgusted by this faction and what they stand for. Yet, they embrace them and cater to them; tolerate them as a means to an end. Whatever they want to call it, they share that hatred of President Obama and are offended that there is a black man occupying the seat that they feel is reserved for WASP men (the W being the primary qualifier).

        • 28 jackiegrumbacher
          March 13, 2015 at 9:13 am

SW, never underestimate the power of money. There are big $$$$s behind the Tea Party and with that money comes a lot of coercion of consent. Republicans have made a Faustian bargain with the Koch’s and their ilk–they traded their souls for riches. Never forget that Roberts and Alito were deliberately chosen to open the floodgates through Citizens United. By declaring corporations people, they pounded a fatal nail into the heart of American democracy. Unless we can one day reverse the numbers on the Supreme Court and re-adjudicate this issue, we will never fully recover. Once corporations could legally buy state legislatures and the US Congress, then the Tea Party became their mechanism for control. The racists meatheads who stood in the sun with their silly costumes and guns were as much pawns in the game as serfs were to medieval lords. They could be manipulated or snuffed out at will. It’s possible even the Koch brothers and their fellow manipulators didn’t realize how totally whacky and out of rational control their little pawns would become once they gained power, but we will never know if they consider that a feature or a bug in their grand scheme.

      March 13, 2015 at 8:37 am

I agree so much with this guy. I was stunned by seeing the signs at the first T – baggers rally in DC. While the march was built as a cry against big government spending, the signs revealed the true anger of the mostly white people In that huge gathering. So soon after the election of PBO who promised to stop the financial bleeding of the market , restore opportunity for all, give middle class people a voice. That didn’t matter.

The racists came to ask for their country back. From these black people in the WH. They were illegal, illegitimate, not sharing their values. What values I asked myself? The love of guns, shooting, hunting, and bowling. I knew then it was more about racism and less about party affiliation. Do we know of democratic T – baggers? No.

      • March 13, 2015 at 9:05 am

“Do we know of democratic T – baggers? ”

They may not label themselves as such, and may not be as open about it, but I truly believe that there are those who call themselves Democrats that share many of the same feelings and objectives as the Tea Party. Haven’t you ever wondered about some of the people we call DINO’s? There are obviously Democrats who also believe that PBO should not be in the White House that goes beyond it “not being his turn” in the unspoken line of succession of the Democratic “establishment”.

        • 31 jackiegrumbacher
          March 13, 2015 at 9:25 am

Sw, I think it’s important to draw a distinction between out and out or subversive racism, which is certainly prevalent among a lot of Democrats, and the Tea Party. The tea party is a political entity specifically funded by billionaires as a wedge to control a political party and eventually both state and federal governments. That it used racism as an overt tool is almost incidental to its purpose. They would have used anything–feminism, agism, gun fetishism, anti-intellectualism–anything to reach the limbic brains of uneducated voters. Barack Obama offered them a convenient tool–race–and they ran with it.

      • 32 jackiegrumbacher
        March 13, 2015 at 9:19 am

The timing of the tea party was not accidental. The stage had been set with the Roberts Court. The election of a black president was the trigger the big money guys needed to gain total control of a major political party. The tea party was organized, funded and controlled by the billionaires as the first stage in a multi-part coup of the US government. By being silly, outrageous and brash, the tea party actors attracted attention to themselves and away from the big game of the systematic take over of our states and our congress.

          March 13, 2015 at 10:26 am

          Jackie and SWBluega,

I agree with your comments. 1) that there are among us democrats some who share the values of the T-baggers, and 2) that the T-baggers were actually a proxy group for the billionaires who wish to take the helm of the political wing of this country. That they used slogans (i.e. big government, state supremacy, fiscal restraint, religious piety to name a few) is a scheme.

          Thanks for your thoughts.

    GM TODville.

Haven’t had a chance yet to view all the Jimmy Kimmel videos (hey, its still pre-dawn in SoCal), but can’t wait!!!

I am STILL chuckling over the “Mean Tweets” video — you know how when you’re doing something mindless like standing in line, all of a sudden you remember something and start chuckling to yourself???

No doubt MSM spirits have sunk to new lows — just when you think PBO couldn’t be funnier (or more ADORABLE — look at his warm, expressive EYES in this video) — any reasonable person who sees this will dismiss MSM’s ongoing personal attacks (aloof, etc.) because the MSM obviously has no clue (or sense of humor).

Am on the floor swooning, when I should be getting ready for the day.

To surfer girl: “I think that’s a great idea.”

And the haha/LOL redundant quip had me on the floor too.

Thanks Chips, for kickstarting the weekend for us in such a wonderful way!

Solar Airplane: Oman to India journey sets new record

Solar Impulse, the fuel-free aeroplane, has successfully completed the second leg of its historic attempt to fly around the world.

Project chairman, Bertrand Piccard, piloted the vehicle from Muscat in Oman to Ahmedabad in India, crossing the Arabian Sea in the process.

Tuesday’s journey took just over 15 hours.

The distance covered – 1,468km – set a new world record for a flight in a piloted solar-powered plane.

The vehicle has another 10 legs ahead of it over the course of the next five months.

Included in that itinerary will be demanding stretches when the craft has to fly over the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

This seems significant — let’s see if MSM picks up on this.

(BTW, MSM in lockstep once again, “report” what the St. Louis County Chief Belmar says as “fact,” despite this tweet highlighted on last night’s overnight thread by NW:)

#Ferguson “reporting” is skewed in favor of people and organizations who have proven themselves liars since August.

        Oh, absolutely, @ranman09.

One of the reasons I love Twitter is that it’s all about sharing, where everyone is equal — no hierarchy, all content is open to the world, its purpose is for sharing and informing users.

One of the things that surprises me is that it seems like every month one of my tweets from months or YEARS ago gets re-tweeted. That is just the coolest thing.

Good Morning Chips, Danny and TOD Family! I saw and taped this Kimble show last night. The President was just adorable. He is infectious! We are all so lucky to have TOD here to recapture events for us. I have enjoyed TOD so much over time. The Selma editions were just wonderful. I stayed glued to CSPAN that day seeing live then the re run. I felt like I knew all the speeches by heart by the end of the day. Thank you all so much for capturing the President each time he travels or visits a school or TV Show or any event. The captured photo’s are just priceless to me. I hope you all have a Fab Friday. I Off to get blood work and to Cracker Barrell for breakfast afterwards. So Happy Barack Obama is Still President of The USA!!

Agree that our President is adorable — aspiring comics wish they had PBO’s intuitive comedic timing.

Wish we had Cracker Barrel in CA. 😦

My fav is Golden Corral, which I make a point to stop at whenever I vacation in AZ/NM, and a coffee shop that I think is called JJ’s (something like that — I obviously need to go back there to jog my memory). Don’t know if Cracker Barrel makes as far west as AZ/NM.

My usual route east is through Kingman/Flagstaff (via the old Route 66), and love the Rod’s Steakhouse (with a plastic cow on the roof) in Williams, gateway to the Grand Canyon.

(Another) heat wave in SoCal today, the bulbs I planted in Nov/Dec are now starting to bloom — and Easter is my favorite time of year — can’t get enough pastels and candy eggs! Good thing I’m not Catholic and give up sweets for Lent, LOL.

Good morning all of TODville. We dvr’rd Jimmy Kimmel so I will wait to watch it later. We have such a crazy legislature here in Montana. We also a some great political blogs. This morning one have this great article up. I believe it can relate to all the Republicans.

    http://intelligentdiscontent.com/2015/03/12/republican-conception-of-liberty-at-the-montana-legislature/

    Montana Republicans believe that:

private corporations and individuals should enjoy the financial freedom to purchase and develop public lands and the land held by Montana Indian nations.

multinational banking conglomerates, the same people who exercised their freedom to crash the global economy in 2008, have the liberty to lie to consumers about their home loans.

students in Montana schools should have the liberty to develop life-changing measles, polio, and whooping cough.

those same students should have the liberty to not learn college and career ready educational standards.

college students should have the freedom to fear their college campuses will become overrun with gun zealots eager to prove their masculinity by carrying weapons to their Intro to Sociology classes.

Montanans should be free to bring guns into every place in the state, from churches to bars.

the poor should enjoy the freedom from pesky needs like adequate food and equal protection under the law.

70,000 Montanans should continue to enjoy lives without access to adequate health care, leading to crippling diseases and constant fear
about their financial future, just as dozens of Montana communities may soon enjoy being free of local medical services
    .
Montana women should be free to let conservative men make critical health care decisions for them, no matter what science and basic human dignity say.

Montana law enforcement officers should be free to arrest doctors who provide end-of-life autonomy to patients.

parents have the liberty not to pay child support.

    • March 13, 2015 at 11:25 am

Could just as easily substitute AZ for Montana. This state govt is all bought and paid for… Gov just signed a budget that is disgusting. People need to start connecting the dots… Course the ignorant here have no idea that the state is a taker state… They think they are showing that big bad federal govt who’s boss, yet make so many cuts and have no revenue to pay their own way. Stupid shits

Mitt Romney wants to remind you why you’re glad he’s not president:

But in case there is any misunderstanding, here is what I heard Netanyahu say: Walk away from a Swiss-cheese agreement; institute even more punitive and crippling sanctions than have been imposed; and remove those sanctions only when Iran agrees to dismantle its nuclear enrichment capability and to submit to unrestricted inspections. Finally, if contrary to reason and expectation those sanctions don’t bring Iran to its senses [bold mine-DL], prepare for a kinetic alternative

  31. March 13, 2015 at 10:32 am

Good good good Friday morning, Chips, NW and TODers.

President Obama is a fantastic guest in any forum and he was terrific last night. Also looking forward to the VICE interview. It looks like the interviewer has a modicum of intelligence and respect, which we cannot say about the MSM in general.

    • 77 arapaho415
      March 13, 2015 at 10:55 am

IMO, @VICE puts MSM to shame.

I know nothing about film (editing, production values, etc.), and maybe it’s because I’m a true-blue Obot, but I loved this trailer, makes a person want to tune in…

MSM’s teases seem more like propaganda to me.
