The senior senator from AZ can STFU. Time to retire, John….you’ve wasted enough taxpayer $$. Go the fuck away.

Blaming POTUS for all the ills in Congress is like racists blaming blacks for the ills of racism. The problem with Congress lies with the racists Republican Party. If there are any decent Republicans (notice I said if) they have bow down to those radical racists right wingers, who hate big government and hate that black man in the oval office even more..

MSM hides how GOP/NRA/Comcast/Kochs are eroding American right to life (NRA) and a functioning government controlled by “We the People.”

We need a national Dem who will challenge the MSM and open complacent American eyes as to what’s happening under their noses.

        • 18 Sandy1110
          March 2, 2015 at 12:20 pm

We have one – President Obama.

The problem with ANY Dem is getting the airtime from corporate-owned media to make those challenges. Dems won’t get that exposure because the corporations/MSM don’t want to give it to them.

          • 19 arapaho415
            March 2, 2015 at 5:22 pm

With the deluge of new, inexperienced and over-paid veteran “journalists,” MSM will have no choice but to cover Dem 2016 Presidential candidates, including ones whose initials aren’t HRC.

You’re entirely right that PBO and his Administration are laser-focused on the progress and well-being of Americans who aren’t corporations. However, our MSM are literally like GOP spokespersons — they parrot one another and when they ask Josh Earnest questions at the daily WHPB, their implied question is “don’t you agree with GOP/Comcast/Koch” talking point of the day. They ignore domestic gun deaths and maimings — however, today a reporter did ask about a new ATF proposal that is out for comment now — not sure what that is, but it has something to do with protecting peace officers from civilian firepower. Will need to research.

Well they said that they are going to move away from their so-called left leaning lineup. That’s the big joke because their idea of left leaning and my idea of left leaning are worlds apart. 😯

        • March 2, 2015 at 9:59 am

I am glad that it is out in the open…what most of the viewers have figured out for themselves…hence their loss of viewership…the Media is a powerful force in a democracy that is why they have a special role that is enshrined in the Constitution…but that same media is corporate owned..and pushes their agenda…how do we compete with that..

        • March 2, 2015 at 10:15 am

I agree donna. They had pretty much moved away from their “left” as soon as PBO was elected…by 2010 I had already begun to see signs that they were not what they professed to be, and it became very obvious in 2012, when MSNBC pretty much led the mass media-driven hysteria about PBO’s performance in the first presidential debate. I stopped watching that network since, and have not looked back. Once PBO got re-elected, they swung to the hard right – and also started pandering to the Libertarian scum – via Snowden and Greenwald, etc And that’s when others started taking note, and their ratings plummeted….

          • 39 donna dem 4 obama
            March 2, 2015 at 10:34 am

The thing about this is that MSNBC still doesn’t get it. I read somewhere on the internet a couple of weeks ago that they think their ratings are down because progressive tv as they see it doesn’t sell. It’s not that progressives are not interested in these shows its that MSNBC doesn’t know how to do left leaning. They think Ronan, Rachel and Chris Hayes (all holding the Presidents feet to the fire) is what the left want to see and nothing could be farther from the truth. They want a counter to Fox. They will not tune into this infotainment to watch PBO bashing. That’s what the execs at MSNBC don’t and will never get.

“…that they think their ratings are down because progressive tv as they see it doesn’t sell…”

This is a classic example of the intellectual dishonesty that pervades the corporate owned media. That’s what MSNBC wants people to think – they know perfectly well that there is a strong demand for genuine progressive TV and that it WILL SELL if delivered the right way, but their backers, i.e., Koch Bros, COMCAST, etc., are not interested in progressive values – they are fully invested in spreading right-wing propaganda designed to benefit their 1% interests. And as you said, their preferred “progressive” slant is not genuinely progressive, but a one-sided scrutiny and relentless undermining of Barack Obama to the exclusion of just about everything else.

            • March 2, 2015 at 10:46 am

              Hi Donna,

I respect, and love to read your views on the events of the day! (I live in DC, so I feel like we are neighbors.) I am a devoted TOD lurker. You are on point about MSNBC. I would just add one thought I am having about the timing of MSNBC’s hard move to the conservative right. I sense their moves are related to the 2016 Election Cycle. The head (CEO) of MSNBC worked for former President George W. Bush. The Republicans are pulling out ALL stops to make sure a Democrat does not win the 2016 Election. They recognize the power of progressive support for Democrats who have shows on MSNBC. They will be supporting JEB. So, this is the time to change the viewership, and the shows on MSNBC. They do not care about democratic viewers.

In fact, the republicans in congress are plotting to overturn each and every program instituted by President Obama. Their final plan is to elect a republican–Jeb Bush. If he wins, he will change everything we have worked to help President Obama accomplish. They continue to want President Obama’s Presidency to “FAIL!” We need to gather our strengths to start working to provide Democrats with support for the 2016 Election Cycle. Our future is at risk!

Arapaho415, this article is not what it appears to be. Like most “trust in government” articles, it is propaganda pushed by Libertarian Republicans who are particularly anti-Obama. If you look at this graph very carefully, it’s no accident that “trust in government” is at it’s lowest during the Obama presidency. It’s a cynical, and manipulative article – and as liberal Obama supporters we need not help to spread this….

Under PBO, government has worked quite well – with the exception of GOP who has sought to undermine it. But that’s not what the article is saying or implying. By focusing on Presidents only, and not including congress or the SCOTUS, it makes one think that it’s the President who is solely responsible for people’s trust or distrust of government. It’s using the fallacy that correlation implies causation – not delving into the reasons for people’s so-called distrust…which are largely driven by the GOP-controlled media, the right-wing SCOTUS, and the GOP congress….

    …………………

Chicago Mayor Election 2015 Poll: Rahm Emanuel, ‘Chuy’ Garcia ‘Dead Even’ In New Survey

    By Howard Koplowitz

Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, the member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners who forced a runoff with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel in Emanuel’s bid for reelection last week is within striking distance of the incumbent as the two candidates head for a runoff, a new poll showed. If Garcia, who has union support and is the preferred choice of progressive Democrats, pulls out a victory, it would rock the political establishment and be a blow to President Barack Obama, who endorsed Emanuel, his former chief of staff, for reelection.

The latest polling from Ogden & Fry, a Chicago-based polling firm, found Emanuel with 42.9 percent support compared to Garcia’s 38.5 percent. About 20 percent of Chicago voters are undecided. The poll was conducted Saturday and has a margin of error of 3.2 percent, the Chicago Sun-Times reportedSunday night.

Garcia is close to Emanuel given the poll’s margin of error, and Ogden & Fry said that Hispanics are under-represented in polling. As the first Mexican running for Chicago mayor, Garcia has strong support among Hispanics, meaning the poll may be understating his support against Emanuel. “They’re likely dead even,” pollster Tom Swiss told the Sun-Times.

Obama, who cut his political teeth in Chicago — the likely spot for his eventual presidential library — ,made campaign appearances with Emanuel in an effort to push Chicago’s mayor past the 50 percent needed to avert a runoff in last week’s election. But in the five-way race, Emanuel received 45 percent of the vote to Garcia’s 33 percent, meaning the race between the two men will be decided in an April 7 runoff. The other three candidates received a combined 20 percent in the election.

This will not be a blow to President Obama. Yes, he campaigned for Rahm and yes, Rahm led the field. But with 5 candidates running, a run-off was likely. Not a Rahm fan and not sure yet about Garcia. But if Garcia wins, it will not be a blow to PBO. What a ludicrous statement.

Well, in the sense that he won’t get his agenda through the Chicago City council, it probably would be a blow. Oh, wait, he isn’t trying to get his agenda through there.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has turned away an appeal from same-sex marriage opponents in California who want to keep the identities of their campaign donors secret.

The justices on Monday let stand a lower court ruling against ProtectMarriage.com, the National Organization for Marriage and other supporters of a 2008 ballot initiative that outlawed same-sex marriages in California until the ban was overturned five years later.

The groups sought to conceal their past and future campaign finance records because they feared harassment of donors. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against them in part because the names have been publicly available for five years.

State law requires political committees to identify those who contribute more than $100 during or after a campaign, along with the donor’s address, occupation and employer

Are they trying to hide that the Mormon Church gave them 60 million to fight marriage equality ?

Oh I am too Donna, I just expected more from Warren, progressive Goddess and all that. The disloyalty is utterly repulsive, screw them all.

But Lady Warren can go out and break President Obama’s balls whenever she sees fit, she is such a goddamn phony

            • March 2, 2015 at 11:32 am

She’s been a monster disappointment at times Don, but I just can’t get over this – the disloyalty to her President, and the respect given to the biggest threat on earth to world peace. Christ.

I’m furious, too. I’m particularly furious that the Dem party leadership willfully missed this opportunity to frame Boehner and to support their President. Every last one of them: DWS, even Pelosi and Reid could have done a whole lot more. I’m furious.

I LOOK AT THINGS IN A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE…I KNOW WHO THE BETTER MAN IN ALLOF THIS IS…BY FAR!….IT IS IMPORTANT FOR HIM AND HIS ADMINISTRATION TO MAINTAIN THE HIGHER ROAD AND LEAD BY EXAMPLE. I LOVE MY PRESIDENT VERY MUCH! I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO SELMA…AND BEFORE I GO TO THE DOCS TOMORROW I HAVE TIME TO LISTEN TO BIBI’S SPEECH BECAUSE I LISTEN TO ALL SIDES IN ORDER TO STAY INFORMED. DOES THIS MEAN I EXPECT PBO TO BE THERE AND LISTEN…CERTAINLY NOT!..RUSTY IS GOING TO GET THE SCREWS PULLED OUT OF HIS BARSTOOL!

I’m sorry to say that I never expected that much from the progressive goddess. She speaks well and her years of training as a teacher enables her to say things in clear terms, but I think she’s a Clinton Dem and is more concerned with positioning herself with Hillary than supporting her President. That’s one reason I have never joined the Warren for President team and never will.

By the way, VP Biden explains things very well, too, but he doesn’t get the credit or publicity for it that Warren does.

Yes but…they can only do what the people who don’t bother to vote give them the power to do. They will push the envelope as far as they can. Who’s to stop them?

        • March 2, 2015 at 11:54 am

          BOOOOOOM!!!!!…

It is NOT a hopeless situation….We DO have the power in our hands…when we do not vote we abdicate our power…and when folks do not care about voting…that makes it so much easier for Voter Suppression to succeed!

57, it would not surprise me to hear that the next move was the formal declaration of the Confederate States of America with its own flag, laws and currency. Just when you think people have gotten as looney as possible, they find another plateau. I don’t even recognize this country anymore–it seems to be filled with people suffering from right wing derangement.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the Dems, all of them. I’m sick and tired of their mealy-mouth bullshit. I’ve had it up to here with them. They have no backbone, the first President to deliver damn near everything they’ve ever wanted and they don’t even have the goddamn stones to stand with the President. I mean really, a foreign head of state comes to your country and talks shit about your President and you don’t have it in you to stand with the President. I am so thoroughly through with these motherfuckers. I just can’t take the blatant disrespect anymore. President Obama has delivered, and these punk-ass motherfuckers can’t do anything but hem and haw, girl bye!

Don, I sympathize completely with how you feel–I’ve been angry at many Dems at the national, state and local level who seem to have no clue how to fight back against the the lies, sabotage and treachery of the GOP/media complex. What I did learn from our President, though, is to keep on fighting toward the light despite the anger, despair and outrage that inclines us to be cynical. Each of us can make a difference–in how we communicate with other people, how we motivate other Dems, how we reach out to voters. Our president started in a small area of Chicago, making a difference on a local level by helping people to see the importance of voting. If we each took a small area–a neighborhood, a precinct, a particular community in our towns, cities, etc, we could quietly go about changing the world block by block, I no longer rely on national or statewide organizations to get a job done and I certainly have no faith in a working Congress (at least for several years), but I can make a difference as an individual and I know that each of us can as well.

WE ALSO HAVE TO EXERCISE OUR VERBAGE AS DOES OUR PRESIDENT…AS HE HAS PROVEN BY EXAMPLE…WE DON’T MAKE OURSELVES LOWER THAN THE ENEMY! WE ARE…………………………………ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY AND WE ARE LIVING IN VERY DARK TIMES!

This is from a speech she gave back in 1970. Still relevant today…

Mikulski received her first national attention in 1970 as a result of her remarks at a conference at The Catholic University of America regarding “Ethnic Americans”, convened by Msgr. Geno Baroni. Her message became one of the major documents of the “ethnic movement”.

“ America is not a melting pot. It is a sizzling cauldron for the ethnic American who feels that he has been politically courted and legally extorted by both government and private enterprise. The ethnic American is sick of being stereotyped as a racist and dullard by phony white liberals, pseudo black militants and patronizing bureaucrats. He pays the bill for every major government program and gets nothing or little in the way of return. Tricked by the political rhetoric of the illusionary funding for black-oriented social programs, he turns his anger to race — when he himself is the victim of class prejudice.
[He] has worked hard all his life to become a ‘good American;’ he and his sons have fought on every battlefield — then he is made fun of because he likes the flag. The ethnic American is overtaxed and underserved at every level of government. He does not have fancy lawyers or expensive lobbyists getting him tax breaks on his income. Being a home owner, he shoulders the rising property taxes — the major revenue source for the municipalities in which he lives. Yet he enjoys very little from these unfair and burdensome levies.

… [T]he ethnic American also feels unappreciated for the contribution he makes to society. He resents the way the working class is looked down upon. In many instances he is treated like the machine he operates or the pencil he pushes. He is tired of being treated like an object of production. The public and private institutions have made him frustrated by their lack of response to his needs. At present he feels powerless in his daily dealings with and efforts to change them. Unfortunately, because of old prejudices and new fears, anger is generated against other minority groups rather than those who have power. What is needed is an alliance of white and black, white collar, blue collar and no collar based on mutual need, interdependence and respect, an alliance to develop the strategy for new kinds of community organization and political participation
