Here’s Sec Jewell, involved actively in her department’s issues, as per usual.

I think Sally Jewell is an absolutely great Secretary of Interior! She is not beholden to any corporations, she is absolutely for conservation and improving our environment. I greatly admire her.

I admire her too, Carolyn. I had no idea what the Dept. of Interior had been doing before she signed on. They may have been doing the same things as now, but it’s only upon her arrival that I became aware of them. Ms Jewell seems to travel as much as John Kerry with the difference being her travels are mostly ‘internal’. I may be prejudiced 😉 😀 but I find that the people PBO has chosen almost all seem to be terrific workers ……. for the good of the nation!

          • March 1, 2015 at 5:47 pm

With you all the way! She is a very fine example of public service for the greater good.

“COLUMBIA — President Barack Obama will visit Benedict College in Columbia on Friday for a youth event, The White House said…

U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-Columbia, has worked to bring Obama back to South Carolina.

“I’m pleased to welcome President Barack Obama back to South Carolina,” Clyburn said in statement provided to The State. “I thank President David Swinton and the Benedict College family for hosting President Obama’s event with students and youth leaders.”…”

Dydd Gwŷl Dewi Sant hapus i bawb! Wishing all a very Happy St. David’s day! And for the rugby fans among us: (warning: it continues on to God save the Queen at the end) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFQ6EmkTrDg

Seems to me that many (all?) national anthems contain at least one image of battle – war is so embedded in our human history. Don’t laugh, Maryl, but when I read – tried to read- the first couple of words in your comment my first thought was typo and my second was WordP was really acting up! 😀 Happy St. David’s Day(a new one for me) to you!

      • March 1, 2015 at 5:23 pm

Patron Saint of Wales, VC. And as my parents were always very proud to point out, at least in the Welsh national anthem to poets and singers and men of renown come before the warriors! Thanks for listening 🙂

😀 Having the Welsh words included made listening ‘easier’.

          • March 1, 2015 at 5:49 pm

            The Welsh language is melodious!

              March 1, 2015 at 6:08 pm

Do you speak it, Maryl? Do your children? I’m always sad when children let their parents’ language fall by the wayside, as I think that’s such a natural way to learn the language. I wish my parents had spoken another language.

              • March 1, 2015 at 6:30 pm

My parents spoke Welsh when they didn’t want me to understand what they were saying! As a result, I did learn to understand it and I can pronounce it, but never learned to speak it fluently. by the time my children came along my father had died and my mother didn’t see the point in teaching it to them. My daughter, who loves languages, has looked into it on her own. I’m with you, vc, I wish they had included me in those Welsh conversations!

Furthermore, ‘US diplomats will be required to seek approval from the Foreign Ministry for meetings they conduct in Venezuela.’ Maduro expelled diplomats he suspected of wrong-doing a few years back.

At the end of 2014 Maduro claimed ‘to be in possesion of “recordings” disclosing US plans to bribe and corrupt Venezuelan authorities’. He also accused the U.S. of attempting a coup. The plotters were allegedly paid in U.S. dollars and wanted to assassinate Maduro. Britain and Canada have also been involved with the coup attempt.

“You heard me say this before, political office is an amplifier and when you elect extremists, no matter how small or how slight, you get extremism.
    Every. Single. Time.
It’s only a matter of time before they self-destruct and they are perfectly willing to take the rest of us with them when they go. These people are not the loyal opposition, they are unhinged fanatics and the only thing that matters to them is “beating” Barack Obama. They are obsessed with it and they are perfectly willing to risk the security of the nation and the livelihoods of American citizens to achieve a pyrrhic victory at any cost.
When the extremists win, America loses.
    Every time.”

Republicans are conflating two statements that PBO has made. It’s absolutely true that he stated that he cannot change law. Here’s the kicker: he hasn’t.

He said: “I just have to continue to say, this notion that somehow I can just change the laws unilaterally is just not true. We are doing everything we can administratively. But the fact of the matter is, there are laws on the books that I have to enforce.”

Dishonest RWers ignore what he’d said right after:

“Now, what we can do is to prioritize enforcement, since there are limited enforcement resources, and say we’re not going to go chasing after this young man or anybody else who’s been acting responsibly and would otherwise qualify for legal status,” if laws were changed.

The president honestly said he cannot change law. But he’s also said that he has “prosecutorial discretion” on how to use limited resources, and he does, as given to him by the U.S. Constitution.

I think Nancy Smash and Harry have got Boehner by the nose hairs, but no one will admit it. Certainly, Boehner won’t. I think that is what his interview on Face the Nation was all about today…..pre-emptively blaming the president when he can’t corral his caucus…..or blaming him for making him pass the DHS funding……something convoluted in his alcohol soaked mind. Playing the victim again, and again, and again. Remember what PBO does with that! Doesn’t bite…..brushes him off!

According to the report, Ramati, during his visit to Capitol Hill, “distributed one-page sheets naming US contractors that would benefit from production funds for each of the missile defense systems,” including Chicago-based Boeing Co.; Waltham, Massachusetts-based Raytheon Co.; Arlington, Virginia-based Orbital ATK Inc.; and Falls Church, Virginia-based Northrop Grumman Corp.

As I wrote below, the effort is to take foreign policy away from POTUS.
An effort that will fail spectacularly and make the GOP look dimmer than ever.
Seriously, Sen Corkers previous job was as Mayor of Chatanooga TN. This is the guy they want to make US policy—-not really. Just to be a puppet for the warmongers.

  43. 112 Vicki
    March 1, 2015 at 6:24 pm

If I am understanding this correctly, AIPAC is now standing next to Bibi and they are reframing the issue as either we go to war or PBO is giving away everything for a bad deal with Iran and he must be stopped. This is what they are lobbying Congress on. Total opposition to Iran deal.

They will allow Zero space for a sane deal and a peaceful world. The anti-Obamacare hysterical battle with International repurcussions.

AIPAC, GOP, warmongerers are uniting to take foreign policy formation away from POTUS. This is actual hardball and very terrifing to me. Except………………….

We will see what President Obama and his Administration does next. POTUS managed to pass the ACA against a similar background of DOA predictions, remember? Looking at you, Ezra.

  50. March 1, 2015 at 6:56 pm

what is forgotten in all of this…is the fact…that HARD sanctions brought Iran to the bargaining table…it was the President’s leadership that forged a strong coalition of European leaders…that held Iran’s feet to the fire with these sanctions….this is not just the US who is bargaining…. it is a coalition of countries…
