Greetings, Mustafa,
If you will allow me to appeal to you, Ilya Novikov showed me your appeal to me on the Internet. I have also often asked my lawyers how things are with your son, whose defense they are also involved in.
It is a great honor for me that you have appealed to me. I know your history and the history of your people who in all times, imperial Russia oppressed no less than my people.
And it would seem: free Tatars and free Ukrainians had only just began to breathe freely on their land, when once again our freedom and our choice of a path in life has been suppressed by the selfish ego of the “Kremlin”!
But the bone is too tough for the teeth! It will choke!
And not just on me alone, but all my people!
Respected Mustafa, in your day, you accomplished a victory for your people, staging a hunger strike in prison for 303 days! If it had not been for your act, it is possible your people would never have returned to their land.. I have a worthy example — it is you! I have not been on a hunger strike as long, but I will withstand as much as needed so that my people have the right to be Ukrainians on Ukrainian Land, live righteously, honestly and by their conscience and to decide their fate on their own!
Ukraine will be victorious! I believe!
With enormous respect for you and the Tatar people
Ukrainian Nadezhda Savchenko

“CUNINICO, Peru — No one ever expected Cuninico, a small riverside fishing village tucked in the heart of the world’s largest rainforest, to run out of drinking water. But it happened last June. Since then this remote Amazon hamlet has relied on state-run oil company Petro Peru to deliver shipments of bottled water from the nearest city, nine hours down river. Cuninico’s problem isn’t a lack of water, rather a surplus of oil. After a state-owned pipeline burst last June, some 2,000 barrels of oil leached into a nearby tributary, poisoning the Marañon River, which for generations has been the main life-support system for the 150 people of this village….
Community members say doctors have instructed them to avoid drinking the river water or using it to cook. Fish have become toxic, crippling the local economy and jeopardizing food security. “We’re very worried,” community leader Galo Vasquez told Fusion during a recent visit to the village. “Petro Peru has said they’re almost done cleaning up the spill and that they will not supply us with water anymore. But the water here is still contaminated. You see white foam on top of it, as it comes down the stream and enters the river.” ….continued”
“Some 109-year-olds read books, or play bridge -– but not Alfred “Alfie” Date. The oldest man in Australia spends his time knitting tiny wool sweaters for tiny, injured penguins. The prolific knitter told Australia’s Channel Nine News that when Phillip Island’s Penguin Foundation requested the tiny sweaters following a massive oil spill that injured hundreds of Little Penguins, a species only found in southern Australia and New Zealand, he couldn’t refuse….
…”The girls who used to work for me, they’ll tell you I’m a sucker. I can’t say no,” Date told Nine News. “It’s a good way of getting along in life. You make friends all the time but you don’t make a fool of yourself either,” he added. Date has been knitting for more than 80 years, but this was his first foray into bird knitwear. The Penguin Foundation stresses to eager knitters that “this is not a fashion statement” — the sweaters actually prevent the injured penguins from preening and swallowing the toxic oil….continued”
fiiinally. guess their numbers were tanking.
Good evening. At the end of your day, GGail, hope your day has been beyond fantastic.
I have mostly lurked past two days. We made our trip to Nashville. Me–to check on my cousin. Husband–For his interview with Campus Crusade for Christ. (Also lined up some other phone interviews.). We walked all around the exhibit hall. At one point, he said, “It’s a little like a circus.” THEN……….soon as we got out of the parking lot, he said this: “I think what we saw there gives Christians a bad name.” I definitely agreed with him. We had a short discussion then dropped it until we were at lunch with the woman from UMNS who is working with him. (United Methodist News Service). Dave brought the topic up. The woman is obviously very liberal. We had a wonderful discussion. One would have thought my husband is a “flaming liberal.” What it comes down to is that he is turned off by the extremism of the religious right in social issues, but is ‘trying’ –my guess–to maintain his Republucan/conservative political stance. Hmmmmmm……….interesting times. 🙂
“I think what we saw there gives Christians a bad name.”
Indeed. poor dood.
Yep. As I said, interesting times in my house. I share more and more things from TOD with him…….usually tweets about good, positive financial news, jobs, etc. He usually doesn’t comment, but I know I’ve gotten the good and correct info to him. Baby steps.
wimmin/smh
I’ve come to accept that there are conservatives, and then there are Republicans. The ones with conservative views – truly conservative – have nothing to do with the extremism, fanaticism and downright lunacy of the Republicans today. I know plenty of sane people with fiscal and social conservative views, who are not hateful and narrow-minded, as we see with the Republicans and their tea party handlers. Sounds like your husband got a rude awakening today.
He’s never been the extreme, TP fanatic. Yet, as we’ve said here, it’s people like him that continue to vote for anyone with the R after the name, regardless. I think for many millions of them, it’s a mix of habit, pride and maybe some very misguided hope that the party will finally stop acting like extreme fools. That’s nit happening though, is it?!
Thank you eeeeeeeeeeeenormously Nerdy – I will NEVER stop laughing at the llama tweets!!!!!

O/T and I know most of TODville has gone to bed, but is it possible that some people see a gold and white dress?

arapaho415, I was off Twitter most of the day so had NOOOOOOOO clue what the gold and white thing was all about!!! Flippin’ hilarious!!
But is it a conspiracy by the wicked to make people think it’s possible to see a white and gold dress???
That is a question I simply cannot answer!!!!!

I know I’m talking to myself, but… this is weird.
I saw this when it was still light outside and had no doubt that it was a blue and black dress.
I went back and took another peek and now see only a white and gold dress.
Reminds me of a photo of a spinning ballerina that was all the rage around the time iPhone was launched, I think. Some people saw her pirouetting clockwise, others saw her turning counter-clockwise. Myself, she started out one direction and after a few seconds starting spinning the other way. Kinda like my mind is now.
Good night, TODville.

Okay, I know I’m late to the party, but could somebody enlighten me on the llama thing and the dress thing? I’m so out of the loop.
Alright, I found an article describing the dress thing. Lawd ha mercy, people are just nuckin’ futs today! smh

Now, on to research the llama thing. Sheesh…. certainly never thought I’d be typing those words! [sigh!]
Alright, now I get the gist of #llamadrama 🙄
I weep for my country; I really do. Our media have lost their damned minds. There really is nothing else to do but laugh or cry… maybe both.
Dudette, two llamas escaped for a little while in Arizona today., They were being chased by the police, pursuit was being broadcast everywhere for a while, and eventually caught. Apparently that’s all media was talking about.
I have no idea what the whole dress thing is about.
Thanks sjterrid! I figured them both out! People are a trip! 😀
Anyway, I just ran across thistweet with a link to a time-lapsed video of the llamas being chased all over creation (set to Yakety Sax music). Priceless! I cannot believe all the major media outlets dropped everything to cover this mess.
Wish it was a YouTube video so I could embed it, but here ya go. Hilarious!

Thanks for providing the links, Dudette.
I found the article with why we see the colors differently on the dress fascinating.
As for the Llamas, I had to laugh, too.
😀
GGail, I came late to your birthday party. I hope you had a wonderful birthday filled with fun, laughter, and lots of love. Happy Birthday!
Nath, What’s up my Brother? I hope all is well.
Hi Yardarm! I hope all is well with you and your family and you are surviving what appears to be a severe winter in Chi-town. Thanks for checking in on me, brother. 2014 was a bit tough on my family as we lost two precious cousins of mine and a very dear friend. I am still hanging in there. My daughter (she is writing her PhD dissertation) took over my computer because hers was damaged. Now and then, she let’s me use it. I don’t comment much, but whenever I am able to read TOD, I always enjoy and appreciate reading your informative posts.
Sorry for your lost..Hang in man. The light at the end of the tunnel isn’t a train….RU getting my emails?
Thanks, brother. Hanging on to the memories and good times we had. Sorry I’ve not been getting your e-mails. Did I give you my current e-mail address? I actually have several of them, so I am not sure which one I gave you. Besides, my daughter installed a new wireless modem which changed my settings and I have not been able to retrieve all my e-mails, but I am working on it.
So very sorry for the loss of your loved ones, nath. I hope sweet memories will help ease some of the pain for you.
Hey Nath and Yardarm! Good to see you fellas! 🙂
Hello Dudette! Always a pleasure to be in your presence. I hope you are having a wonderful year.
Thanks nath! It’s been a “good” year so far. It’ll move up to wonderful when the cold weather goes away! Hope yours has been fabulous so far! 🙂
Hiya doin’ 9t9……Isn’t it pass yo’ bed time? 😆
Guess I’ll just go with the theme and play some running music for the llamas! 😀
“Born To Be Wild,” indeed! As far as I am concerned, the llamas are entitled to their freedom.
Look at you! As always, you are having so much fun with the llamas. Your spirited and fun loving contributions to TOD make it a very special place to come too.
Aw thank you Friend! 🙂
GGail, Happy Birthday! I’m so glad you had a great time on your birthday.
Good night, TOD!

😀 😀 😀
After starting off well, the west indies are starting to lose the plot with poor bowling and fielding. 258/3 off 40.

Hm, link looks weird. Let’s try that again…

280-4 off 42. At this rate, 340+ is easypeasy for the proteas.
334/47 a total to chase
ooops, 408/5 in 50. SA cap’n smashed the west indies to smithereens. 162 off 66 balls. We just dodges that bullet.
Saved the best for llast! My Husband LLenneh! 😀
Gotta go lie down. Goodnight! 🙂
Good one! 🙂
GN!
34 from over 47!
Bgosh 5/408 by South Africa – hope the West Indies go for it
a bit short by 20-30 runs though, don’t you think? 🙂
Graeme Swann Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
“They should test him. He’s not all man. He’s part machine. If you cut him open, it would be liquid metal. Holder has gone for 75 off his last three overs.”
South Africa captain AB de Villiers: “This game is only half way and the only thing on my mind is winning it. We want to go and defend this total now.”
yeah AB, let’s see you defend THAT. #loser
“This is SA’s highest World Cup total beating 356-4 v WI at St George’s in 2007 and South Africa becoming the first team to have 4 totals over 350 in World Cup matches.”
And we still hold the record for the highest WC total. 413 for five against the mighty Bermuda in 2007. 😎
AB De Villiers has recorded the fastest 150 in ODI history by reaching the mark in 64 balls, beating the previous record of 83 balls by Shane Watson against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2011.
And I just tuned in to see 8/109 – West Indies – extras doing better than about 4 of the players!
Indeed. pathetic surrender.
would have to agree on that – after watching the first innings – fans will be well disappointed
At least, WI captain is fighting for pride.
aaand, he is gone too.
wets indies -109/8 – #boring.
Not sure that boring is quite the word – but sure is all over bar the shouting
Our illustrious PM just happens to be holding a meeting in New Zealand at the minute – wonder why that would be?
AB’s ‘record’ against west indies
fastest 50 off 16 balls
fastest 100 off 31 balls
and today
fastest 150 off 64 balls.
the man is a machine.
Moooooooooorning!
