Those two AMAZING cricket teams due to start play in 30 minutes – weather sunny but lots of clouds around – they will probably both benefit from “rain disrupts play”

Hell-oooo, my favourite stranger! Nice to see you. Chips didn’t see me because I’d covered my eyes.

      • February 25, 2015 at 12:10 am

I’m sure you’re asleep by now….anyways, hope the weather is better up north then my current frigid situation!

Will try to chat it up w/ you tomorrow.

          February 25, 2015 at 12:17 am

I’m not asleep yet though I should be, so I’m heading off to read in a very little while. It is *cold*, but the further I am from December the better able I am mentally to withstand the cold.

          • February 25, 2015 at 12:26 am

Late Feb in the midwest should produce negative temperatures……I’m stuck here going to class while my parents are in South Beach 😦

Speaking of reading…. I need to renew my library card.

            • 33 vcprezofan2
              February 25, 2015 at 12:37 am

But-but-but, think of how you’re building up resistance to cold! 😀 Console yourself with the fact that when your parents return they’ll feel colder than you do.

Today, with the wind chill it was -30°C when I foolishly left home to go shopping. Didn’t realize it would be so cold until I was already in the car and listened to the temperature. I can be impulsive at times, and I got a sudden urge to get hanging folders to star sorting out my millions of sheets of paper, so I took a quick shower and headed out. Of course, once I got back into the warmth of home and hearth all I did with the folders was to take off their covering and put them into the cabinet drawer. Maybe I’ll make better progress tomorrow. 😀

Don’t tell Lib-L, but I very rarely borrow books from the library. Main reason is that I hate taking back a book I like so I just buy the books I want to read. Plus if I think a book is very poorly written I tend to throw it in the paper recycling – you can’t do that with library books. 😉

    Repeating post.
Tonight’s news is that Bibi has refused Sen. Feinstein’s and Sen. Durbin’s invites to meet with Dems when he is in DC next week.
Reason given is that it would appear too partisan.

    oh, okay.
But collaborating with Boehner and disrespecting PBO and disregarding acceptable international protocols were not partisan????

Can anyone explain this to me because clearly, I am lost.

This should be right up there alongside the jokes that Nerdy just posted:) WTF!

    • 44 vcprezofan2
      February 24, 2015 at 9:50 pm

A pity they gave him such an invite IMO. As far as I’m concerned acknowledging Bibi at all in this instance legitimizes the Boehner invitation to a certain extent. They should simply give him the cold shoulder by ignoring him.

      • 45 99ts
        February 24, 2015 at 9:56 pm

Yep – a few democrats think they can better the President in relation to diplomacy – stupid is as stupid does.

        • 46 vcprezofan2
          February 24, 2015 at 9:58 pm

smh – Honestly, there are ‘too many’ Dems who seem politically dense when it comes to reading between the lines.

          • 47 99ts
            February 24, 2015 at 10:04 pm

They think the issue is “the black guy” and a good white democrat can solve the problem – hahahahahaha – the issue is Boehner – Bibi is just the symptom.

History will be as kind to Boehner as it will be to GWB.

      • 48 jacquelineoboomer
        February 24, 2015 at 11:24 pm

Dick Durbin is a friend to President Obama. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be part of the invite, if the President was against it.

        • 49 vcprezofan2
          February 24, 2015 at 11:32 pm

JO’B, I honestly feel Dems shouldn’t have come up with this compromise at all, thereby putting their leader in the position of having to say whether he was against or not. There are just some principled positions they ought to be able to take on their own – they are elected to lead and to hold the interests of the USA as whole in their hands, after all. I see no reason for them to step forward to add ‘legitimacy’ to Boehner’s disrespectful invitation and Bibi’s disrespectful acceptance.

          • 50 jacquelineoboomer
            February 24, 2015 at 11:39 pm

We disagree, but – of course – you could be right. Time will tell, as more is known about their reasons. But I’m thinking how they acted in extending the invitation was how President Obama might have acted (“the only adult in t he room”), were he still in the Senate. And maybe he whispered in their ears. Just a hunch. We can call out Bibi all we want, he deserves it, but diplomacy between the two countries – aside from Bibi – is very important. Boehner is dirt on our shoes, so I won’t comment further about him.

            • 51 vcprezofan2
              February 24, 2015 at 11:53 pm

I could be convinced that ‘extending the invitation was how President Obama MIGHT have acted’, but a) they are not PBO and b) I do feel if *they* were a strongly united bunch themselves they could have taken the right position to show their displeasure AND support their leader, without having to drag him into the decision. Had they been prompt, unequivocal and strong in their outrage at this move, the president would have been unlikely to tell them to tone it down (I believe). Also, had they at any time been unified and strong in their pushback, I suspect Bibi’s arrogance re USA would have been previously tamed. Bibi should not have been allowed to address Congress before his last elections and he shouldn’t be welcomed with open arms now – Israeli-USA history/relationship notwithstanding.

                February 25, 2015 at 12:02 am

It dawned on me that having the Dems invite him to a little sit-down – and his having declined – further puts egg on Bibi’s face, in some circles. I’m not totally against that. We shall see, eh?

“….There are emoji for pears, koalas, and jack-o’-lanterns; for a pine tree, a pizza slice, and a dragon’s head on a plate. But there are no emoji for black people. That seems likely to change soon: Diverse emoji are coming. The next system update for Apple Mac and iOS devices will let users type emoji with a variety of skin tones, a beta software release revealed Monday. Each human-like emoji, from the smiley face to the thumbs-up, will be available in one of five skin tones. And emoji that do not have a racial modifier will no longer appear as white—they’ll instead appear a Simpsons-esque yellow….continued”

“It’s the one place where smartphones were a big step backward: We went from sending no-look texts under the table to appending “sent from my phone, please excuse typos” disclaimers to emails. Even with clever autocorrect algorithms and fancy swipe-to-spell software, typing on a screen doesn’t compare to typing on a real keyboard. So are we stuck here forever? Maybe not. What if there was a touchscreen that could give you real, physical buttons—but only when you need them?

…That’s what Tactus Technology is trying to build. The California startup’s spent nearly five years developing a technique that makes see-through buttons materialize on top of touchscreens, as if by magic. Now, it’s readying its first consumer product, an iPad Mini case called Phorm. It’s not exactly a touch screen typing revelation, but it is an intriguing look at how we might supercharge our flat glass gizmos in the future…cont”

As far as I know Chris Kyle did what he was asked to do by our military and he served. I don’t have ANY reason to doubt that and god bless him and his family. What I cannot FATHOM is: He decides to help a fellow vet with PTSD, a guy that had threatened to kill his family… a very mentally ill person AND? He takes him to a gun range with extremely lethal weapons??? NO! I’m not saying it was his fault…. I’m just asking WTF? TEXAS GUN CULTURE? REALLY??

    • 139 arapaho415
      February 25, 2015 at 12:22 am

I’ve read various articles on the movie portrayal of Kyle versus what he was really like, and have no opinion on American Sniper, which I will never see.

In line behind a couple of women in SoCal exurbia a couple weeks ago (reliably Republican area), and one woman was raving to her friend how great American Sniper is. She said “you leave feeling so patriotic.”

Based on what I’ve read about this movie, her enthusiasm puzzled me, but this is why it’s so popular in middle America.
