What I only care about from 2015’s predictable Oscars. —-> Lupita Nyong’o, Glory from Selma, and Selma winning.

Golden Girls marathon is on and it is fabulous. Plus, adult swim and cartoons on other networks….woooot!

Ok folks, we are going to watch Get on Up tonight instead of the Oscars, but I had to watch who got the best supporting actor. JK Simmons did!!!!!! JK grew up here in Missoula and I have met him several times. I worked with him mother for many years on one of the main events here in the summertime. This is so exciting for Missoula. JK’s parents just passed away last year, I know they are dancing in the streets of Heaven in happiness. I am in tears.

Cuba has freed the president of a Canadian transport company after more than three years in jail.

Cy Tokmakjian was arrested in 2011 as part of an anti-corruption drive and jailed for 15 years on bribery charges.

The court also arrested two other employees from the company and seized the Tokmakjian Group’s Cuban assets, which were worth about $100m (£65m).

Canada has so far refused to comment as to whether it played a role in securing Mr Tokmakjian’s release.

During his trial, the Canadian government was engaged in talks between the US and Cuba aimed at restoring ties between the two countries.

On 17 December Washington and Havana announced that they would normalise relations.

The Guardian has reported that the chief executive of HSBC, Stuart Gulliver, holds £5m in a Swiss bank account through a Panamanian company.

Lawyers for Mr Gulliver, who is domiciled for tax in Hong Kong, told the Guardian that full UK tax had been paid on the entirety of his worldwide earnings.

His lawyers did not answer questions on why he used a Panamanian firm.

The revelations come on the day that HSBC publishes its annual results.

I just saw a picture of Lupita online – absolutely stunning – no words – just had to pop into TOD to add my sixpence worth. From eonline

“Let’s be real: Lupita is the only star who could pull off this pearl-adorned Calvin Klein Collection dress, which is probably why it was custom-made. ”

Saw Lupita’s gown on one of the shows and she looks fabulous. Will not watch Oscars, even to watch Lupita, Common, John Legend. And speaking of boycotts, could all my fellow TODers join me in calling Almay cosmetics in the am. Not only are all their cosmetics geared for pale, blond, blue eyed people, but now they have added the tagline “simply American”. Wonder who that is geared to. Guess my hue will not be represented in the “simply American” Phone # is 8009925692.

The last time I watched the Oscars, some of you weren’t born, others were in grade school, a few may have been in junior high: It was 1985 the year Amadeus won. I went to see it the day before the Oscars. I have not watched them since. Amadeus swept so many categories, but when the best score category was announced, it wasn’t on the list. The winner was the composer for A Passage to India, which I had also seen. When the composer accepted his award, he said “I’m glad Mozart wasn’t eligible for an Oscar.” I told you all I’m old!

Old, or mature? One sounds decrepit and the other….. mature. 😀 😀 Don’t mind me, I’m heading to bed. I’ve never watched the Oscars or any other of these award shows because I never felt it was worth staying up late, especially when the winners would be splashed all over the news the next day anyways. Sometimes I wonder what it is I really do with my life as there are so many ordinary pursuits that simply don’t interest me. I remember once a few years ago hearing some guest on the radio talking about the epitaph for their father and the line they chose acted upon me …..for a brief period of my life. They thought ‘While he was alive, he lived’ to be a perfect summation of their parent’s life, and I remember thinking it was time I started to live. Of course, the new resolution didn’t last long with me. 😉 😀

      Good night! Sweet Dreams!

A comment beneath this video on YouTube (so perfect):

      Cameron Scott1:
“This is what a director dreams to have in an actor, someone who understands the enormity and importance of their role, and fully accepts the accountability that comes with it. And this is what an actor dreams to have in a director, someone who provides them with a “safe place” to operate within their craft, all while protecting their vulnerabilities. Great job David, Ava, and cast and crew! Awesome film.”

what a weird oscar night. some great moments here and there, but the bad moments were some of the worst in oscar history. i was always indifferent about neil patrick harris before, but wow, he’s up there with seth mcfarlane as the worst hosts ever. so strange with all the racist stuff, especially the mocking of the wonderful octavia spencer, who of course rocked her speech when she was up there. glad to see “selma” get at least something, yet how in the world does “boyhood” not get at least best director or best film?!? nothing like that movie will ever be made again. i have not seen “bird man” but have been wanting to for a while, so we’ll see.

why don’t they just have julie andrews host the show each year? they keep trying all these difference people who are not “presenters,” and who bomb year after year. what’s so hard about this?!? show hosts should be likable people who can either perform and/or simply be likable as they read scripts, yet the academy never seems to realize this. comedy seems to mean nowadays “mean-spirited sarcasm with little or no cleverness.” i’d love to see some people today who pay homage to the old vaudeville circuits, where people were real entertainers. billy crystal understood this. oh well..bigger fish to fry, i guess…

I am so eternally sick of war – it seems there are way too many people who are not happy unless they are sending other folks children to die far from home. No war in the past 50 years has achieved anything other than generating more and more hate against the aggressors.

It seems that those same people who would send our children to fight have to lie because they think it “bad” that they have not themselves served in combat. It should never be a measure of one’s worth that one has served or not served.

    Good morning TOD,
First, my prayers to Rikyrah. I pray that healing takes place now.

What interesting moments at the Emmy awards that I did not watch. Instead I enjoyed every minute of the re-airing of “The Book Of Negroes”. The acting was superb.
It seems to me the whole tone of the night was and is everything our President and his administration has been fighting for ever since he came upon the political scene.
Equal rights. Voting rights. Women’s rights. Human rights. Immigration rights.
All had a voice tonight, exactly everything POB and we here stand for.
This was definitely not about gowns, glimmer and red carpet moment. This is a movement. That needs to be addressed. We should be growing not regressing.
Why is Hollywood so slow to embrace this? Why are Dems. not applauding our President for his relentless courage to take on a system that is out dated has not worked for all Americans? Why is the media hell bent on demeaning and disrepecting this president like no other ever in history? Is war the only answer for the GOP?
So many questions I have this morning.
It is still a beautiful day.

I echo your thoughts for Rikyrah – and wish I had answers to your many questions – what President Obama has done is make people question why it is only through war that a country ever seem to be united – and so many do not enjoy the reality of this question.

While you are having cold and snow – we are having cyclones and floods – so many say “misfortune binds us together”. Only now do I see the help of our neighbors. How wonderful it would be if happiness would bind us together. Why on earth do we need war and disasters to live happily together.

      It’s surely a weird world.
