Morning Chips. Every Saturday in February there’s western movie festival in our area and my husband is a big fan. So we trek out in all weathers to watch old cowboy ‘heroes’ from the 30’s and 40’s on faded movie reels with poor sound. I’ve been known to snore half way through the first of the two movies, but it makes him happy if I make an effort. None of the old cowboy movies had anything for girls until Dale Evans came along in the 40’s. Every other woman on the screen in those days was a dip who had to be saved by the hero. Ugh.

      GM JackieG.

Simple pleasures are the best, and it’s nice to have traditions (since so many people in SoCal are originally from somewhere else, tradition is hard to sustain here). Nice that your area continues the tradition of showing Westerns, especially since your husband enjoys them so much.

Young folk have no idea how pervasive Westerns were during the 1960s — Bonanza and Gunsmoke were both on air for about 20 years, and there were the shorter-lived Maverick, The Wild Wild West, Rawhide, Have Gun Will Travel, etc.

Westerns were my Dad’s favorites, so saw a lot of them, most of which went over my head. I watched for the cute guys (Clint Eastwood’s Rowdy was in that category, the guys on Laredo and Lancer).

My community continues the tradition of a western-themed carnival for a few days every Spring (late April/early May) with a local parade, carnival, chili cook-off, etc. Must mystify the children who are at least two generations removed from our early 20th century history.

That is absolutely fantastic news, AMK. She must be brilliant to win out over so many. I hope she has a long and stellar career ahead of her.

amk, you have such a wonderful, amazing, family.

Love the GIF — a more appropriate one would no doubt be of a man bursting out of the seams with pride and joy — DO NOT post a GIF of this (another nightmare-inducing thought of Newt’s mankini springs to mind — way too early in CA to endure that).

My guess is that your daughter is continuing your Mother’s groundsetting and awe-inspiring dedication to medicine and helping others. Hope you include your Mother in your toast to your daughter — both amazing women.

It goes without saying that Mrs. amk is a saint to put up with you — congratulations to her too, the most important job on earth, and you both did an outstanding job!

Congrats amk-daughter — we are TOD are so proud of you!

so in short, the wimminz get all the credit, is that it?

Thanks. What I love the most is that she is taking after her grandma, sincere, caring and hardworking.

Also. too. an easy touch, a bleeping librul. Where did I go wrong?

Ask yourself — where would amk be without the wimmin in his life (akin to George Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life)…

Then think of something special to show your appreciation for all of them.

          Congrats again, amk women.

I was disappointed that the winter DNC meeting did not include the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She’s not the right person to lead the Democratic Party in the runup to 2016. We need someone who’s dedicated full time to messaging and fundraising and she’s not that person. She’s too concerned about pleasing her constituents and not making waves to concentrate on the big picture. These handoffs to new leadership take place at the winter meetings and it’s a shame it didn’t happen now.

    • February 21, 2015 at 8:53 am

GM, jackie. I couldn’t agree more. Rumors about her unpopularity with insider Dems (including Nancy Smash) have been around so it’s not clear at all how she keeps her DNC job. But I do find it interesting that someone is leaking emails about her disagreement with a high level donor.

Do I believe the story? Yeah, I think I do.

Also, I missed the news that she’s thinking about making a run for the Senate in 2016, which may answer a lot of questions. She’s says she banking Hillary will lift up her chances of winning.

      • February 21, 2015 at 8:56 am

I forgot to add that DWS was Hillary’s 2008 co-chair so it’s a pretty good guess that has a lot to do with why she’s still in the DNC chair. She’s already done HRC’s bidding placing her cronies on various key committees.

          Ugh.

          Double-ugh.

Going into the third decade of the 21st century, it’s time to bury the DLC remnants for good.

As the old saying goes, when they’re in a hole, give ’em a shovel to dig themselves deeper.

Waiting in the wings is the answer to progressive Dems dreams for 2016 congressional campaign — someone who can credibly remind immigrants and small business owners alike of the appalling rhetoric and treasonous tactics employed by the 114th’s Congress this year.

Resistance to the drug that has saved millions of lives from malaria has been detected over a wider area than previously thought, scientists warn.

The ability of the malaria parasite to shrug off the effects of artemisinin has been spreading since it emerged in South East Asia.

Tests, published in Lancet Infectious Diseases, now show this resistance on the verge of entering India.

Experts said the development was “alarming” and an “enormous threat”.

Arapaho, meta and jackie—to you especially since you were discussing this topic—-but also to all: Good morning TOD.

Tne NY Times confirms your points this morning. Small piece on page 12 (Rudy, Of Course, gets the Page One coverage) states that “PBO cannot count on the 2016 Democratic candidates to defend his policies, since they may choose to distance themselves from them.”

There it is. 2014 will be repeated. Because, you know, it worked so well. No joke. It Did work well for someone. Just not any readers of TOD.

We need a candidate outside of the DLC if we are to have any hope of preserving and protecting the gains we’ve seen under President Obama’s leadership.

    • February 21, 2015 at 9:24 am

Pure idiocy that I will never ever ever understand. Screw them!

    • February 21, 2015 at 10:47 am

we are not really surprised by this….The only candidate to say that he would continue working on the President’s agenda…because it has been so successful is Biden..everyone else wants to reset for the next candidate (Hillary Clinton) quiet as it is kept…they are not willing to turn over anything to the Obama Coalition…The Dems may use us to get elected but they do not to empower us…never have been….
