I’m pretty sure I had someone famous at my storytime today. Couldn’t place his name, but I know I’ve seen him on the TeeVeeBox.

Sports would be great if it weren’t for idiot fans.

PARIS (AP) — With a racist song ringing in his ears, a black man trying to board a subway train in Paris stands back after twice being pushed away by a group of Chelsea soccer fans.

Sharply dressed in a long overcoat and with a bag hanging from his left shoulder — most likely on his way home from work — the man does not manage to get on the train. A black woman, preferring to move away from the mob, walks off moments later.

The group — some of whom chanted “Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea” — then sing “we’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it.”

At about that time, several Paris transport officials walk past the group, but do not intervene, and the black woman leaves the adjacent carriage.

So, I have to relate what I cooked for the missus as a late Valentine’s Day dinner.

Broiled American Kobe beef Wagyu New York steak, marinated in a delightful citrus-garlic marinade
Wok-fried asparagus, with minced garlic and soy sauce
    Baked potato

The steak cost way more than I usually spend on beef, but damn, it was worth it

NY Times front page headline: “Obamacare enrollment exceeds expectations covering Millions!!!!”

Snark, of course. This propaganda tree killing enterprise mentioned the ACA in a small box deep in the paper. In a group with 3 other items. The ACA bit is titled with “Obama says” rather than stating the info as fact.
You know, does it count if the person they like to call “This President” in disdainful tones, says it?

I’m not a beagle-lover but she is one beautiful dog.

Before we adopted Pilgrim, when no-kill shelters were difficult to find, we found one and they had Pilgrim and a beagle. We made an appointment to see the dogs. I told my vet and he said, “don’t get the beagle. Beagles are dumb. You’ve never had a dumb dog. You wouldn’t like it.”

In retrospect, I’m deathly allergic to the dander of short-haired dogs. And Pilgrim was the Love of My Life. He was the type of rescue that latches on to one person, and I was that person. No one will ever love me the way he did.

Oops. Sorry. Although my friends have a beagle/hound mix. It is a dumb dog. Frankly, I don’t know any purebred beagles. The one we were going to look at that day was already adopted. I did tell me vet that we could love any dog and give it a good home.

I have been watching “The Book of Negroes.” It is well-done history/drama.
So far the most riveting moment came when the storyteller asks George Washington face-to-face since the Declaration of Independence says all men are created equal does that mean, now that he has won the Revolutionary War, that he will release his slaves?
The face of the Father of our Country tells the truth in that moment.
The country he considered himself to be the Father of emphatically did not include women, blacks, jews, poor folks.

I’ve watching it too! So glad I’m recording it so we can watch it over and over again. It’s so well-done. Quite the departure from the usual bucket of slosh served up by BET.

Yes that moment with General Washington was so powerful! The whole series so far has been brilliant! I suspect we ‘ll soon see a wave of little baby girls named Aminata in tribute to this amazing heroine. Two thumbs way up!

Josh Earnest opened the WHPB with that announcement, which of course was immediately pounced on by the WHPC jackals.

Also, when I worked in Malibu (eons ago) we had quite a few TV stars as customers. Even had a signature card for Bob Dylan. Rob Lowe was in high school, and a jerk back then (a co-worker’s daughter attended Samohi with him, couldn’t stand him). I opened an account for Martin Sheen ($4K cash), and various other minor luminaries, like Burt Ward (Robin of Batman & Robin fame — another of my co-workers would ring the intercom for me humming the theme song, which was hysterical). Also notarized one of the Eagle’s signature (the blond guy who did the Boys of Summer — which one was that?) — he was a self-righteous jerk.

Also saw Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw in the shopping center on a regular basis, though they weren’t customers.

So. As promised: New Moon today: the conjunction is in Aquarius 29.59’54” at 6:47pmEST (3:47pmPST). Followed immediately by the Sun moving into Pisces, at 6:48pmEST (3:48pmPST), a mere 6 seconds later! Although my reading around the astrological webs finds not too many astrologers as excited by this as I am, I am content to feel the dynamic intensity. It’s okay if it’s just me (right?) As well, today is Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of Lent, for some. I sheepishly admit I have yet to put away Christmas, as things have been pretty much out of control around here since before Christmas anyway. Finally, I’m sure you also know, tomorrow is Chinese New Year, lunar new year, The Goat, tho I have seen some call it The Sheep. Not sure what that’s about. Anyway. I have tried to peer in from my phone, making occasional comments, only to have the signal fail, and the comment not posted, unrecoverable. Mostly I have tried to thank everyone over and over for all the caring, kind thoughts and support, which is tangible and appreciated. Smokey Robinson, tomorrow, 1940. Maybe we could have a par-tay, he would like that a lot!! ❤

Get ready for a rant: Mr. 57 comes from poor, Catholic Polish stock. His twin brother was married to woman who, for three generations before her, lived on nothing but welfare. They divorced and she lived on welfare the rest of her life. Her daughter – lived her entire life on welfare and is the mother of 5 children, who are now young adults and are living on welfare.

The twin brother’s son managed to get a little education and is a Chicago cop. He HATES PBO. And he just went on a rant about PBO and all the welfare he’s giving away. “Who is going to pay for that extravagant welfare?” he ranted.

Well, who paid for now five generations of women in your family living on welfare, dear nephew?

I have a good friend who is a lesbian, born and bred in the lily-white Chicago south side neighborhoods. In 2008 when I had to practically beg her to vote for PBO she finally said to me, “I just don’t like the black guy.” She’s getting married in June – was THAT going to happen under a Republican?

Here is the conclusion (and I see this all the time): Poor, uneducated, ignorant white people who think they are superior to our First Family just because they are white. If that isn’t the definition of racism, I don’t know what is. How dare they?

I don’t understand it, 57, but it seems that many people have to use something to make themselves feel superior. These people make imaginary hierarchies in their minds to shore up their insecurities and they themselves are never at the bottom. It takes an evolved person and an enlightened mind to see the falseness of hierarchies, especially those based on something as superficial as skin color. I used to think that the majority of people in this country had evolved beyond this primitive mentality but I was proven very wrong when Barack Obama was elected president. A whole political party showed its base racism for all to see and many people that I once admired did the same. The shame of this is overwhelming and it cripples us as a country and a people.

Thank you for sharing your experience. You have provided personal stories detailing the racist mindset that permeated this country, which I have been trying to point out. PBO represents a shake up of the racial totem pole of this country (where AA’s have always been on the bottom). By PBO proving to be a competent and effective President, it is a PERSONAL blow to alot of folks because it shows how bankrupt the racist ideology they have embraced truly is. PBO’s success, intelligence and class are driving these folks insane with racial panic. They cannot handle the fact that a Black President is proving himself to be one of the best this country has ever seen. Any advancement of the image of Black folks is a loss to these folks’ stature in the country, in their fevered minds. That the GOP/1%ers choose to exploit this racial hatred for political gain does nothing to effect the reality of this situation. In fact the GOP is more secure in being radical because they know that people like the folks you described will never support PBO because of his race. Either side with the GOP or the Black guy is how the GOP/MSM frames the issues, and time and time again they choose to side with the GOP despite the GOP espousing policies that will hurt them. It is a game that has been played since this country’s founding, keep poor Whites angry and racist so they don’t notice how bad the Owner class is screwing them. Use Black folks as the scapegoats for all that is wrong. Without people of color, there would be no reason to designate oneself as being “White”. The tribalism would be separated by “Irish” or “Italian” or “Catholic” or “Protestant” if the Black American did not exist to be scapegoated.

        It upsets me beyond belief.

      • February 18, 2015 at 6:44 pm

Hello TOD family. 57 your comments are so spot on of how many white americans see AA’s in this country. I am AA and when I was in college I had one of my white neighbors (who was dating a Hispanic catholic guy) say in front of my face in my apt. that “blacks are that the bottom of the totem pole, there’s whites, Asians, Hispanics, then blacks”. Her Hispanic boy friend spoke up and said no the Mexicans are at the bottom. I don’t know why he would say that maybe because he felt embarrassed that she would say something like that. Mind you we were all going to college for higher learning. I told them as far as I am concerned there is NO totem pole in this house, we are all equal and it takes a lot of balls or ignorance to insult someone in their own home. I just don’t understand why some feels the need to step on other people especially when they are no better. I guess your in-laws feel they deserved welfare since it should be for whites and if other minorities receive it they are just lazy. I don’t understand the lesbian friend who is getting married thanks to PBO and they will be able to file federal and maybe tax returns together. When they say they “hate the black guy” I hope they know or maybe don’t care his mother and half his family is white like them. I had this discussion with my cat sitter who is an elderly white senior who thanks to Obamacare she is not stuck with a hefty hospital bill. She had emergency surgery last year and because our CA Dem Gov took the extended medicare she was covered 100%. When I told her that she said, “well that’s still socialism and I don’t like it”. I told her then why take it? She said she is poor and can’t do any better. I said then aren’t you glad it was there for you thanks to PBO because you republican lawmakers would just let you die or you would be getting bills and calls from debt collectors. All she could say is she is a Fox News watcher and she listens to them. I asked if she knew that many GOP Governors in other states refuse to take the medicare thanks to the five republican justices and now many Democrats, Independents and Republican will die due to no healthcare.
