Chips, did you see your BFF’s post near the end of the previous thread?!?!?

Here is my response to JER on the previous thread:

    Wow, LOVE it!!!

Hope that Melissa Battersby and Cousin Henry get in touch — some of her “Obama Wall” could have a starring role in the Moneygall Museum!

Also hope that Melissa and Tesla Alway are regular lurkers in TODville.

So refreshing to see a broadcast report without the inevitable but….

    And..

Add “responsible” to list of things that PBO advocates:

These yahoos knew exactly what they were doing. I emailed them:

This story http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2015/02/watch-san-diego-fox-news-station-uses-obama-picture-as-suspect-in-a-rape-case/ is UNACCEPTABLE. The whole crew who put (up) this program should be fired. If indeed this was a mistake, which I do not believe it was, then that is an incompetent crew you have hired. This little trick is tired and old and even a second grade child can see through this ugliness. Shame on you guys.

There is simply zero excuse for this incompetence or willful sliming of President Obama.

        Thank you.

    • February 15, 2015 at 11:13 am

Oh Wow! Now I’ve seen it all hopefruit2. It was no accident, you see they have that “No Charges” under the President picture. How sickening.

    • 28 arapaho415
      February 15, 2015 at 11:28 am

      No accident.

No question why Duncan Hunter Jr and Darrell Issa represent that corner of the nation.

The bloodthirsty media constantly sweep truth and history under the rug as if it never happened (see my response to meta on the last thread re: Nathun’s post from last night — sadly he and Kasai encounter this ilk on a daily basis) and suffer no consequences for “oops.”

I am far more offended by this than the Janet Jackson “nipple” episode during a Super Bowl broadcast in the aughts. (One of the few games I watched because I was at a Super Bowl party.) Americans (including children, I should hope) know that humans have nipples — .02 seconds of seeing that truth will scar no one for life — but this is a continuation of broadcast/virtual lynching.

      Hope FCC sees this.

Here is my email to them. They also have a twitter account and a FB account.

I am not a viewer of Fox5 San Diego, however, thanks to the Internet, I’ve seen the news report where President Obama’s picture was used in the Rape Story.

I am very disappointed in the direction that main stream media has taken since this man became President of the United States. You should be ashamed that a “mistake” such as this could even happen. The disrespect speaks volumes about the intergrity of the News Director and Producer of this segment.

Due to the internet, the whole world has seen your disrespect and many are not happy. I have encouraged my blog friends to let you hear from them as well.

In my lifetime, no other President has had to endure so much hatred and disrespect and it is glaring.

San Diego has a strong right wing stronghold out there. Such a shame for such a beautiful part of the country. Probably a reason why Romney calls it “home”… he’s among friends.

Thanks, Meta! You’re a CA doll!

      / ………………………….

“We walked into the room and pretty quickly noticed there was a name tag in front of every seat except one,” LaVigne said. “The table’s a horseshoe shape, and the one seat that was missing was the one in the very back in the center. It was like, ‘Hmm, okay. That’s interesting. I wonder who’s going to sit there. Someone who doesn’t need a nametag?’”

The first people to enter the room were Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, Homeland Security Advisor Lisa Monaco and National Security Advisor Susan Rice. The three officials started a conversation with the students, and after several minutes, Obama entered the room.

“I had a pretty visceral reaction,” said Patrick Cirenza ’15, who also attended the meeting.

      ……………………….. //

We totally understand, Patrick. Some of us have a ‘pretty visceral reaction’ just seeing a picture of our president. The man is definitely sent for our time!

      • February 15, 2015 at 11:25 am

That was a fun piece. How exciting for each one of those students to be able to engage in a fairly free-form discussion.

I also wonder if POTUS was checking out the place and its students as prospective college for Malia. She did visit there last year.

        • 41 vcprezofan2
          February 15, 2015 at 11:40 am

It was – a simple recount of who our president really is – intelligent, involved, fun, serious, caring, passionate, welcoming, people-person, forward thinking, …

Re Malia and college, I must say I’m a wee bit nervous. For one, west coast is too far from me 😀 and also, too I (saying this just this once) don’t like the idea of her being on an American college campus given all the foolishness about arms etc on campus. Not that we are perfect here, but maybe I can persuade her to come north for her post sec studies.

          • February 15, 2015 at 11:47 am

Malia will be fine in Cali.

She’ll have an SS detail, and if she chooses Stanford, I think Palo Alto/Mountain View area is one of the safest areas in the country (i.e., crime stats) — think Google, Apple, etc.

        • 45 arapaho415
          February 15, 2015 at 11:51 am

Did you notice that all of PBO’s “senior advisors” appeared to be women? Not by accident, I’m sure (recall his re-code interview when he stressed the importance of introducing girls to STEM at an early age [he said Malia and Sasha were too old to have coding as part of their DNA]).

This would have been me (if I were Stanford’15 and had a knack for tech stuff 😉 ):
“’At the end we were getting together to take a picture,’ added LaVigne, who is relatively short. ‘He called me out and said, ‘Hey Rio, you can just stand in front of me. It’s okay, you won’t block anyone.’”

No doubt she got a nice pat on the back or arm around her shoulder. Swoon.

IF you haven’ read it yet, go read the article at the link Meta posted. We don’t often get media articles that actually reflect what we know as the truth about PBO’s personality and excellent people skills.

        //………………………..

Many of the students in the roundtable commented on Obama’s personality. Vicki Niu ’18 said he was very down to earth and father-like.

“I made a ‘Thanks Obama’ joke and he laughed at it, and I felt so validated,” she said.

“He cracks jokes whenever he can about certain things,” LaVigne said. “It was very interesting seeing him as a person instead of this big political figure.”

“At the end we were getting together to take a picture,” added LaVigne, who is relatively short. “He called me out and said, ‘Hey Rio, you can just stand in front of me. It’s okay, you won’t block anyone.’”

PBO has the ability to remind those around him that he is first and foremost, a human being just like the rest of us. Which makes him as President, all the more AWESOME. You get to meet the human first, then the position he holds.

          • 51 vcprezofan2
            February 15, 2015 at 12:33 pm

Sadly, you get to meet the human first only if the media do not insert themselves between you and the President, but I get your point about the ‘real-ness’ of PBO.

I love that the President takes time to talk to real people, and share his point of view. The young people get to see that it’s not about ideals, but about real decisions with consequences and trade-offs. And that these issues are complex, and they don’t have easy answers. Plus, they get to see the President as a human being. I love it!

Good morning TODville. Today is only to get up to 40, we are to get some colder weather but no snow. I have tulips that are starting to peak up and buds on some trees. I know we will still get freezing weather. I am afraid for the plants. There is much snow high in the mountains so hopefully it won’t be too bad this summer.

      GM MTM.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m a novice gardener (but now it seems to be my only hobby, always something to do it seems, LOL) and bought some bulbs in October.

I refrigerated them until mid-December, and one has a bloom now. My other bulbs are looking sad now, am hopeful they will change course and actually bloom.

Question for you: do tulip bulbs produce only a single flower per bulb?

      • 66 mtmarilyn
        February 15, 2015 at 12:54 pm

Yes, they only have one flower per bulb. Tulips and lilacs are my favorite flowers. But I am not a knowledgeable gardener. I want to plant my flowers and have them come back every year without me fussing with them. I am lazy in that area. Why I love my lilacs, no work. I do have several kinds of tulips that give me beautiful flowers every year. Good luck. You are in California, right? I do know it was hard for my mom to grow tulips when they moved to Southern Cal.

Equal Justice Initiative has a calendar which you can order and a timeline, linked above, of A History of Racial Injustice. “On February 15, 1894 New Jersey passed a gradual emancipation act, becoming the last Northern state to abolish slavery.”
The website also has the full report on Lynchings in America. Until Americans recognize the extent of terrorism against our Black population and the extent to which that racism undergirds the problems of mass incarceration, disenfranchisement, disproportionate death sentences for people of color, demonization which leads to police brutality and killings, the injustice will continue. We don need a Truth and Reconciliation process and it is incumbent on us all to keep hope in our hearts and push for change. I

I won’t talk about the past. Since when did Afghanistan and Iraq become the past. Aren’t we the U.S. still in those two country? I guess big head little brother is saying he won’t talk about 2000-2008, known as the disaster years.

when you’re a republican and proven that you are a willing mouthpiece for fascist billionaires, you can get away with literally anything, now that “the news” is owned by those same types of fascist billionaires. i used to think stuff like this would sink presidential campaigns in the past, but after shrub in 2002, mccain/palin, and especially mittens money’s campaign where gaffe after gaffe and not releasing tax forms (he never released even one COMPLETE year), were brushed aside and he came much closer to winning than any moron of that caliber should get, now nothing matters in terms of how pathetic a republican is. “the news” will promote any one of them if they’re approved by a few fascist billionaires. they can get away with anything now. scary times. it took the brilliance of president obama to overcome this, and i don’t really see anyone on the dem bench at the moment that can overcome this as president obama did. senator warren is the only i can see, but she’s really denying more strongly than ever that she’s not going for it (sadly).

bush of course was 2000, when “the news” helped reverse a presidential election outcome and put it in the hands of some fascist mouthpieces on the supreme court.

Good afternoon, TOD! Cold and windy in my neck of the woods; however, as we’ve only received a dusting of snow, I won’t complain…

So, when the cameras show who attends and who doesn’t, who applauds and who doesn’t, let’s not think about who is pro-Israel or anti-Israel, let’s ask who is pro-American or anti-American.

I went back to read that positive article Meta shared earlier; really a good piece to focus attention on.
