People calling this a dispute over parking are full of BS. Whenever a white person does this to a minority community, we always look for loopholes to justify it. This is a hate crime

****

The father of two of three students shot to death in Chapel Hill on Tuesday says the shooting was a “hate crime” based on the Muslim faith of the victims. Chapel Hill police said Wednesday morning that a dispute about parking in the neighborhood of rented condominiums near Meadowmont may have led Craig Stephen Hicks to shoot his neighbors, Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, and his wife Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21, and Abu-Salha’s sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, of Raleigh. But the women’s father, Dr. Mohammad Abu-Salha, who has a psychiatry practice in Clayton, said regardless of the precise trigger Tuesday night, Hicks’ underlying animosity toward Barakat and Abu-Salha was based on their religion and culture.

Abu-Salha said police told him Hicks shot the three inside their apartment. “It was execution style, a bullet in every head,” Abu-Salha said Wednesday morning. “This was not a dispute over a parking space; this was a hate crime. This man had picked on my daughter and her husband a couple of times before, and he talked with them with his gun in his belt. And they were uncomfortable with him, but they did not know he would go this far.” Abu-Salha said his daughter who lived next door to Hicks wore a Muslim head scarf and told her family a week ago that she had “a hateful neighbor.” “Honest to God, she said, ‘He hates us for what we are and how we look,’” he said.

President Barack Obama explained to BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith in an interview published Wednesday that his former advisor David Axelrod’s characterization of him as misleading the public on his position on gay marriage “isn’t quite accurate.” “I think David is mixing up my personal feelings with my position on the issue,” Obama said. “I always felt that same-sex couples should be able to enjoy the same rights, legally, as anybody else, and so it was frustrating to me not to, I think, be able to square that with what were a whole bunch of religious sensitivities out there. So my thinking at the time was that civil unions — which I always supported — was a sufficient way of squaring the circle.”

“Where my evolution took place was not in my attitude toward same-sex couples,” Obama continued, “it was in understanding the pain and the sense of stigma that was being placed on same-sex couples who are friends of mine, where they’d say, ‘You know what, if you’re not calling it marriage, it doesn’t feel like the same thing. Even if you gave me the same rights, the fact that I’m being treated differently or the love that we feel is somehow segmented off, that hurts.’ It was because of those conversations that I ended up shifting positions, that civil unions, in fact, were not sufficient rather than marriage.”

Requires 2/3 vote in both houses. That’s 67 in the Senate. Nu-unh! Nope.

I got a call from the DNC this morning. I told the young lady that I won’t be donating to the organization until democrats show me they can support PBO the way they should. I also told her another factor that caused me not to donate today was the way dems ran from the president before the midterm elections. I thanked her for calling and hung up the phone. If they want me to continue giving them my money, they must show me their backbone when it comes to dealing with the GOPTPers. I donated quite a tidy sum to them last year. In fact, I donated every time they called, but not this year. If they’re going to act like cowards, I’ll keep my money.

Hate crime seems a more apt description. Terrorism has political motivations (i.e., terrorize to attain political goals). One of the victims spoke of her “hateful” neighbor days before her murder. This “parking dispute” canard the media is pushing is insulting and sad. Just like blaming Trayvon’s hoodie, it is just an excuse.

    Au ⭐ for Chips, Yes!
Was it not in NC, at this particular Campus where just weeks ago, a few Christians were losing their minds for an approved Muslim Prayer Call on Fridays for 700 Muslims? The University then back down on their original approval?
This Murder who executed 3 young people……did so for their religion. It was Hate Crime, period.

    • February 11, 2015 at 6:15 pm

Shame that the media is so eager to push a parking lot dispute as the motive for these murders. God forbid that the media would even *hint* that Muslims can be victims of hate crimes. But then that’s the way to keep this under the radar and away from front page news/lead stories.

Thank you Nerdy for showcasing the lives.. and loss of these 3 young people who were taken from the world by more hate. I am so sick of this.. anyone thinking they have the right to take the lives of anyone else, for whatever sick, demented reason. So sorry for them, for their families. The world lost 3 more young people and it is heartbreaking.

They blame “divisiveness” on PBO for the same reason they want to say that the Muslim students were murdered because of a parking lot dispute – to shift blame AWAY from whites for racism and profiling.

US mainstream media is designed to control the President as it were the foruth branch. the only way we can put them out of the 24/7 business is not watch – seriously people need to stop watching cable news shows. We need to mock and call them out daily on social media. We need to speak truth to every time they utter crazy.

It’s way too hot for February now.

Sadly, this seems to be our weather pattern now.

However, the gentle rains we’ve gotten means the hillsides are emerald green — was traveling throughout Ventura County today, and I felt like I was in The Shire (during a heat wave).

My God, these brilliant young people, one a teenager, the other barely out of their teens were shot execution style.

A parking lot argument might result in death, but a victim or two or three might have the opportunity to escape/survive.

Is this idiot suggesting that executing people over parking spaces is now the American Way?

these kind of hate-fueled killings are directly caused by the decades of irrational hate spewed from “news” organizations such as fox, cnn, and so on. these three people seemed to be wonderful lights in this world, and now rupert murdoch and the disgusting roger ailes have these kids’ blood on their hands, just as they do all the other recent racist-fueled killings.we know they’ll show no shame though. sure can be true sometimes that “only the good die young” when seeing those lunatics living late into life and with unlimited money, and these three great people are gunned down.

Hey everyone. Sad news: my beloved 15 &1/2 year old Maine Coon was diagnosed today with a fast growing massive tumor in her tummy. A euthanasia house call is scheduled for this Friday at 2. I’ll be away for a bit, dedicating the rest of our time together to my dear girl. No need for verbal reply, but your love and prayers for us both are very welcome. I’ll send Chipsticks a photo to post if she wants to. See you next week. Big hugs all around. _^..^_

I wish that the adults responsible for the Jackie Robinson West tile lost would issue a statement accepting full responsibility so that the racists would stop blaming the precious innocent children who played their hearts out only to now find themselves being blamed as if they are adults. These children are not given the benefit of doubt or the presumption of innocence their white counterparts would be given simply because of the color of their skin. I amso tired of the attacks and vicious criticism of these heartbroken children who played their hearts and souls out only to have this happen to them. They are victims, not perpetrators. They are innocents who need to be embraced. To me they are WINNERS and it doesn’t matter to whom they “give” their title, it will always belong to the Jackie Robinson West children in my mind.
