Hey, just saw a tweet that suggested maybe this was Beyonce’s response to Huckabee’s spew about her from a couple weeks back.. Totally forgot about that. Seems plausible now that I think about it.
Co-sign! As someone who grew up listening to Mahalia Jackson every Sunday at my Nana’s house, hearing Ledisi sing Take My Hand, Precious Lord during Selma, gave me goosebumps and brought me back to those Sunday afternoons. It’s gravitas, dignity that you hear in voices like Mahalia’s and Ledisi’s. Beyonce/Bey/Queen B or whatever she’s calling herself these days will NEVAH have that, no matter how well she sings.
My sisters and I had to walk with my mother to my grandmother’s house around the corner, when I was little, to see Mahalia Jackson sing on TV (before we got our own black and white TV, back in the ’50s!). Fond memory for me, too.
Chinese authorities have executed powerful Sichuan-based mining tycoon Liu Han, state media say.
The former chairman of Hanlong Group was sentenced to death in May for “leading mafia-style crime and murder”.
Liu’s younger brother, Liu Wei and three other associates were also executed, Xinhua said, after China’s top court signed off on the move.
Liu is believed to have had links to former security tsar Zhou Yongkang, who is currently being investigated.
‘Tyrannised local people’
The Hanlong Group is a major private conglomerate based in Sichuan province, involved in multiple industries including mining, telecommunications and chemicals.
As head of the company, Liu Han was both rich and very influential.
Xinhua said the company, which had been “harboured and indulged by government officials, had illegally monopolised the gaming business in Guanghan City in Sichuan province, tyrannised local people and seriously harmed the local economic and social order”.
If exit polls are correct, then one of the main reasons behind AAP’s impending win seems to be the complete collapse of the Congress in Delhi much like in the rest of India. This too is remarkable for a party that was in power in Delhi for 15 long years and now finds its Chief ministerial candidate struggling to win in his constituency. The Indian electorate in 2015 is looking for fresh ideas and willing to take risks. A perpetually risk-averse Congress with a tired Dynasty at the helm is hardly an appealing option. (hint, hint?)
But it will be the BJP which will inevitably find itself on the backfoot if the losses predicted by exit polls manage to hold up. After staking so much on a state election, with Prime Minister himself asking people to vote for him, the party will have to introspect what went so wrong in just eight months that the nation’s capital refused to listen to Modi, deciding instead to cast their lot with an “anarchist.” It was not AAP but the BJP who made this contest between Modi and Arvind Kejriwal. Recognising his mistake from the Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal from the very beginning refrained from taking on Modi directly, instead prodding the BJP to name its Chief Ministerial candidate. When the BJP did eventually name Kiran Bedi, it was too late in the game and there was widespread dissent within the party. Moreover, the BJP ran a thoroughly negative campaign with the party’s entire top leadership focused on spitting venom on Kejriwal.
Modi will also have to recognise that he is the establishment now. Unlike the Lok Sabha elections where he railed at the establishment and projected himself as the outsider, it was Kejriwal who in Delhi elections was the anti-establishment voice. All the arguments that Modi successfully deployed against the Congress-led political order, Kejriwal has used against the Modi-led establishment at the centre. And nothing symbolises the arrogance of political power more than the suit with his name emblazoned all over it. Modi who is fond of reminding voters of his humble origins clearly failed to anticipate the challenge from a muffler-draped Kejriwal.
Nice!
Congrats on first, Dudette!

If it was me, you might’ve seen some lips pursed, eyes rolling, and heard some other things.
Yeah. I like Beyoncé and she did an okay job, but Ledisi knocked it out of the park in the movie.

Unlikely she will ever see it, but if she does I do hope she’ll appreciate the sentiment and share it with Kevin Costner ….

And, meanwhile, Sarah Palin’s hero continues his aggression in Ukraine…
This is an invasion….it should be called what it is…and if Europe is not careful…Ukraine will not only be the first stop….History will repeat itself….
Hoping that EU wakes up. The US cannot go at Putin alone.
I agree…i am not sure if EU really believes that they are in danger…they have been slow to move on sanctions…
Joining the pack of bank enabler…
In the fight against ISIS…
In Oregon, if you have a bakery, don’t discriminate and serve all patrons!
From one of my favorite US Ambassadors…
A bit of good news, a departure from the regular shooting somewhere in the US!
Oops! I spoke too soon.
The chance for Neten-YAHOO! to cancel his polarizing visit is slim. But I wish he would consider a gracious end to his attack on a sitting president.
NCLB, there is no excuse for congressional Dems not to have more backbone on this issue. It’s shameful!
And that is the true.
Mooooooooooorning!
