      Thanks Nena 🙂
And so true. Coach Smith was a man who was destined to do what he was led to do – on and off the basketball court. His respect and admiration was well deserved.

Ok folks, need you all to pray/send good thoughts/channel higher spirits. Missus has an interview tomorrow for a private duty nursing position. She’d be taking care of a feisty and vivacious old lady. Fri/Sat/Sun, 7am to 7pm, $25/hr. And our nephew also would like for her to help out with his mom, whose dementia is really accelerating. Plus I’m still sending her CV out to several places. So good thoughts for her.

Agree with the exception of the word “Fake”. The story isn’t fake……OVERBLOWN, most definitely……if ONLY it would lead to actual accountability of every Journo by the US News Media.

I think Dems/Progessives can use “pro-life”or “pro-living” stance that we are pro-life for all living children and people working to feed, house, their children who are already here. We need to drop “pro-choice” and make ALL health decisions none of the governments business because no one stops a man from getting a vasectomy or the use of Viagra so they can cheat on their wife.

Report on my 1st bit of partying in ages!!

So people, I went to my first 65th birthday party last night and it’s the first time I’ve ever been to a party where the birthday person had such fun! It was a revelation to me that one could so enjoy oneself having invited others to help celebrate the day. Birthday Girl sang (like Chipsticks) and danced for her guests, she took a professional picture with everyone/family groupings. She was the life of the party. There were over a hundred people there (a few from New York, England & elsewhere) and near the end of the evening when she gave her thank you for coming, the birthday girl thanked each table, AND said something personal about each guest at the table!!! Then she topped that with her own version of ‘I did it my way!’

    So we had……
    1. A stand-up comedian doing seniors jokes. I liked her because she actually made me laugh. (In general I *hate* stand up comedy and comedians! To top it off for me, this one never once used the ‘f’ word. ) She certainly set a good tone.

    2. Guests welcomed by B-D Girl wearing a Presley-style golden cloak around her shoulders and doing Karaoke to ‘This is my life’ and a few other songs in the same vein. She is not much of a singer but her verve was great! She danced around while she ‘sung’, using the entire dance floor. This was in addition to the individual welcome she gave on our way in – without the cloak and in a different outfit. BTW, at the welcome table, there were 3/4 over-sized prof pics of her that guests could add their wishes to. That was virtually the only ‘present’ I noticed her getting (except for one person bring her a gift bag). There was also a picture display of her in different life stages in the entrance hallway.

    3. After grace we had a huge catered meal, served buffet style. A lot of choice. Looked great and tasted really good.

    4. African drummers & a dancer – who after performing two numbers, asked audience to join in dancing during the next number, and some people did!

    5. B-D Girl gave a tribute to her husband who died almost 10 years ago. Asked one of her sons (the one who wasn’t able to handle the grief of a memorial ceremony right after his dad’s death and said close to 400 people at a funeral was memorial enough) to dance to ‘Dance with my father again’. They started dance together, then son gradually invited family members starting with other sons, then grandsons, sister, cousins, etc. etc to join in the dance until there was a sizeable circle around her, everyone swaying to the music. Very, very moving and not at all sad.

    6. 3 –different singers entertained the audience, followed by ….

    7. Cake cutting, which was also a lovely event.
This awesome, people loving Birthday Girl invited all those born in February to come forward and TOGETHER they cut her Caribbean-style-wedding-cake birthday cake!

    8. Thank you to all attendees + B-D Girl’s lyrics and version of ‘I Did it My Way’

    9. After that the dance floor was officially opened and the DJ had his chance to spin some real oldies. Great evening! Did I mention the B-D Girl shook a leg ALL evening long? She did. She said several times ‘This is *my* life’ or ‘This is *my* day’. She made sure she enjoyed each moment and that her guests did too!

I left at about 1:15am and the DJ was still going strong and dancers were still on the floor. An amazing birthday celebration!
O, and we got our copy of the professional pic that was taken earlier, in a sturdy cardboard picture holder – the kind used by photographers!

So, any idea there you’d use in your next ‘big’ birthday? Believe me, it was fun, and I didn’t know 99.8% of the people there.

You would have enjoyed it for sure. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun – the way a party should be I think. 😉 We even had a few little kids running around, and that added a touch of reality to any ‘formal’ activities.

    • February 8, 2015 at 3:55 pm

Wow vc.. Seems like you had a REAL BLAST yesterday! That celebration sounded like a ton of fun for all involved. At first I thought it was YOUR birthday, but upon second read, I realized it wasn’t although it might as well have been – you had soo much fun! 🙂

FTR, I do have *a* birthday coming up next month and even though my friend planned her own, I think it would still work if you did the planning for mine. One change shouldn’t throw things off too much.

I was awed that she was able to share a bit of her history with each person, a couple even dating back to high school and to university!

In my search for books for my young family members, I discovered the work of Malorie Blackman. Today’s her birthday and I ran across this terrific video of her discussing her work. 🙂

So now that the good employment news just keeps flowing in, and our President is finally and deservedly getting some long-over due credit, Mr. Gallup CEO wants to tell America that it’s all just a big lie – that the unemployment rate is much higher than is being reported. And he even takes his unhinged bullshit a step further by suggesting that POTUS will have something bad done to him for supposedly revealing the truth about the unemployment numbers.

Remember this was the same Gallup who told us that Romney was going to win in 2012…I guess their anger is stemming from the fact that they are MAD that it’s PBO getting the credit for HIS hard work, and not President Romney – basking in undeserved accolades (as they were hoping).
