The U.S. labor market leaped forward in January, capping the greatest three-month jobs gain in 17 years and delivering the biggest wage increase since 2008. Payrolls advanced by 257,000 last month following increases in December and November that were even bigger than previously reported, figures from the Labor Department showed Friday in Washington. The unemployment rate rose to 5.7 percent from 5.6 percent as more than a million Americans streamed into the labor force seeking work. The sustained employment gains are creating a virtuous cycle as Americans spend newfound incomes on goods and services. The growth in jobs will probably help assure Federal Reserve policy makers that the expansion is well-rooted and can withstand an increase in interest rates later this year.

And then you’ve got the wage gains.” Average hourly earnings jumped 0.5 percent, the most since November 2008, from the prior month. They were up 2.2 percent over the past year, the biggest advance since August. Payroll gains averaged 336,000 over the last three months, the strongest since a comparable period ended in November 1997. A striking aspect of the report was a revision that added 147,000 jobs to the payroll tally for the previous two months, which also incorporated adjustments back to 2010. Employment in November was revised up to a 423,000 gain, the most since May 2010. Private payrolls, which exclude government agencies, soared 414,000 that month, the biggest advance since September 1997.

What i keep thinking when I see 3.3 million jobs added in past year is that 3.3 million families are at the very least on the road to the life they want. A new paycheck in 3.3 million homes.
Yesterday’s news item from Ford about how they needed to hire 1200 entry level workers and therefore 500 existing workers are seeing their hourly wage go from $19 to $28 is a part of a very good story unfolding now.
3.3 million jobs added in past year is that 3.3 million families are at the very least on the road to the life they want. A new paycheck in 3.3 million homes.

I heard this on the radio about an hour ago and thought these must be the most sadistic people on the planet to do this to a little kid. My mother used to tell us never ever talk to strangers, don’t answer the door when she is not home (my mom worked grave yard shift), don’t go off with people you don’t know. I will never forget the time this man was sitting in a car down the block from my elementary school and my friends and I were walking home. Usually there is a crossing guard but we had passed her already. Before the man could get two words out we ran screaming away then later laughed when we turned around to see a classmate get into the car and the man turned out to be her grandfather. This poor child will be scarred for a long time the way this family tortured him.
