First lady Michelle Obama speaks to students at Edward A. Reynolds West Side High School on February 5, 2015 in New York City. The first lady was visiting the school to support a decision by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to commit $500 million over the next decade to end childhood obesity.

I’m so annoyed with Lawrence that I’m not totally sure … but I think he said the Crusades were centuries ago or something and we should be talking about now. I guess we should forget about the Holocaust, too, because that was so last century. And for goodness sake, let’s not talk about anything current that people are doing in the name of religion, even in our own country, including “Christian conservatives” and their Stepford wives and home-schooled children, because Lawrence might not like it. It might offend his sensibilities – I guess because nobody asked him first.

By the way, I’m Catholic, and Lawrence doesn’t speak for Catholics – he just spewed whatever he either woke up thinking or what somebody talked him into thinking earlier in the day. Catholics are supposed to “defend their religion,” and I was never taught to “defend the Crusades” because they’re so “old news,” if that’s what Lawrence meant. As Joe Biden would say, “Malarkey.”

I didn’t hear the President’s remarks, but I just read the transcript and agree with every word. I’m not a religious or historical scholar, just a human person trying to find her way, and I agree with every word. Lawrence just found his way to put down President Obama, to make himself look more endowed. As I tell my grandchildren, “If you have to put down somebody else to make yourself look better, you’re already not looking so good to me.”

        • February 5, 2015 at 10:49 pm

Very much appreciate your thoughtful comments, Jacqueline.

In time, this speech by our President is likely to be considered among his most elemental, his most profound recognition of the considerable wisdom of our Founders to NOT base America on any form of theocracy. And, in fact, to do everything possible to defend the rights of each person to believe in whatever is beyond their understanding, but to never allow our government to dictate any form of belief to anyone.

    Completely O/T.

Just heard on the radio about shortages of consumer goods in Venezuela — CBS radio network news said that a package of 36 condoms costs more than $800, which is worrisome for that country because it has one of the highest rates of HIV and teen pregnancy — and abortion is illegal.

I see that @Lawrence was being a complete jerk about PBO tonight. Good thing I turned off MSNBC two years ago and have never looked back.

  21. February 5, 2015 at 10:59 pm

Only 12 retweets after 1 hr, and a whole bunch of negative replies to that crappy tweet… I hope Lawrence and MSNBC are taking note.

      February 5, 2015 at 11:05 pm

And what gives Lawrence the right to say that President’s don’t know what they are talking about, as opposed to him knowing about religion? This tweet makes no sense to me. I turned from his show immediately when he start calling PBO’s speech a bad speech.

On this topic I’d not leave a single molecule of O2 in the room for the dude. He is so far into swamp of willful ignorance he’ll never escape with any dignity or credibility.

        • February 5, 2015 at 11:14 pm

Indeed Bob. This is embarrassing. Something tells me he will be regretting tonight’s segment….unless the Kochs promised a huge bonus to anyone who could “diss” PBO….

          • February 5, 2015 at 11:25 pm

No amount of money, hf, will ever restore his dignity and credibility after what he did tonight.

I’m so disgusted with him that I started to wonder earlier … maybe this is his prelude to becoming one of Hillary’s “campaign” flunkies? Maybe he’s trying to get back into the fold, Clinton-wise? The way he acted tonight, he’s already in their camp, IMO.

Does stop cable pundits from talking about alot of thinks they know nothing about. I found nothing wrong with POTUS speech this morning at the Prayer Breakfast.

Doesn’t stop cable pundits from talking about alot of things they know nothing about. We POTUS supporters is the ones who watch his show, rub us the wrong way and he we will not be watching him anymore.

Lawrence, behave as though he has a monopoly on all religious understanding. It’s obvious President Obama speech penetrating his soul and exposed his Pharisaic mentality. Rather than pursuing a contrite heart and asking for forgiveness, he chose to go to the darkside.

The “West Wing” is one of my favourite shows of all time. And the fictitious President Bartlett was not shy about voicing his religious beliefs, or seeking religious council. Lawrence O’Donnell used to write for that show. Seems like he’s the one who doesn’t know what he’s talking about…

They’ve all been told to talk FOR the GOP and against the President. The result will not be what they want – seems they will get to ratings less than zero.

People using the little icons that denote happy, sad or other emotions in their text messages could be racking up big bills, the BBC has learned.

Consumer website MoneySavingExpert has received a large number of complaints about the issue.

It seems to affect older models of phones, including some Samsung and Apple handsets.

In Scotland, a woman ran up bills totalling over Β£1,000 after adding emoticons to text messages.

The issue revolves around how the handset interprets the icons, known as emoticons or emojis.

In some cases, especially on older handsets, the emoticons are converted into MMS (multi-media service) messages, which can cost up to 40p each depending on the network.

Beleaguered Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is facing a challenge to his leadership after Liberal MPs called for a party vote next week.

Luke Simpkins, who represents Cowan in Western Australia, said it was “time to test the support of the leadership”.

Mr Abbott has faced growing questions about his leadership in recent weeks.

He was widely ridiculed for giving a knighthood to Prince Phillip, husband of Queen Elizabeth, and blamed for a Liberal defeat in Queensland elections.

In an email to the party which was carried by Australian media, Mr Simpkins said he was tabling a spill motion because he had been “inundated” with questions about “the direction the government is being led in”.

“The knighthood issue was for many the final proof of a disconnection with the people,” he said, adding that it was “time to test the support of the leadership in the party room”.

Desperately trying to change the rules by pretending “the people voted for me” – the party room votes for their leader not the people. It is interesting however, if he does what just happened in the NT and refuses to resign even if defeated in the party room.

If he wins the vote – it will not end well. Every time he has a problem there will be another vote & another & another.

President Barack Obama has called the Dalai Lama a “good friend” and an inspiration for freedom and dignity of all human beings.

Mr Obama was speaking at a prayer event in Washington with Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader among the audience.

It was the first time the president and the Tibetan Buddhist leader attended the same public event.

China objects to foreign leaders meeting the Dalai Lama because they see him as a separatist.

Mr Obama’s previous meetings with the Dalai Lama have been private but media have been invited to take photos.

At the White House National Prayer Breakfast, Mr Obama was seated at the head table with the Dalai Lama.

Before his remarks, Mr Obama pressed his hands together and bowed his head toward the Tibetan leader, giving him a wave and a smile.
