      1. Congratulations on first.

      2. Thanks.

      3. I had a feeling you’d get a chuckle out of the Punxsutawney Phil dick joke. Your sense of humor is kicksass, sir.

      4. You wouldn’t expect Bob would be the one cracking up from some of these jokes, because they go THERE. But he does! Bob is my dude. No one else at TOD gets Bob. Sir? You are the coolest of the cool. 🙂

“And confirming that conclusion is a report by Ekho Moskvy picking up Tajik media stories that “approximately 3,000 Russian soldiers from the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan will be sent to the border with Ukraine.”

Their places will be taken by Tajik soldiers, a step that raises some serious security issues. Given the withdrawal of Western forces from Afghanistan, the threat of radical Islam to Central Asia is becoming ever greater. Pulling Russian troops out of the region now suggests just how important Moscow’s next moves in Ukraine must be in its calculations.

As Golts notes, “having [now] concentrated on the war in Ukraine, Russia risks losing Central Asia.” Indeed, he says, Moscow may soon face “a strategic nightmare” as a result. By sending troops from Central Asia to Ukraine, it may soon face the influx from Central Asia of “tens of thousands of refugees.””

Chancellor Merkel’s trip to the White House, Monday 9 Feb, suggests to me that she and President Obama need to look each other f2f and make some really serious decisions. Putin will not stop. He will have to be stopped. It’s just the way it is, and the way it always has been.

Bob, what are the chances of Putin’s being pushed out by fed up oligarchs? I read somewhere (don’t remember source) that this was possible. Do you think this could happen, or, is he invincible?

Technically, I don’t think Valerie Jarrett is supposed to be “political,” in her role as a senior presidential adviser … but love this, at the end of her tweet:

Who’s that white guy in the photo beside Bobby Jindal? And, if I may, if parents choose not to vaccinate their children, it’s child abuse as far as I’m concerned….unless they intend to live in a bubble and never come in contact with another human being EVER in their lifetime! No school, no shopping, no walks, no being a kid…and if they take that away from them, it’s abuse of the highest order. I hate stupid people.

    Excellent Tweets, Nerdy.

So to my fellow TODers, it seems as though “your” SCOTUS believes that “men lactate, too”. I don’t know if this has already been brought to your attention, but the Court ruled in favor of Nationwide and against a breastfeeding mom. Here’s the story from Raw Story.

Really? Then men can get pregnant and nurse their offspring? Shit! Why didn’t someone tell me this sooner! Men just need to fucking quit making rules that deal anything with women’s issues. I mean it. Stay the fuck out of female anything!

df, Tell the truth! I nursed my son for 13 months. Had I known men could lactate, I sure would have insisted that hubby take up some of the slack. These Koch conservatives on the Court are pure wackos.

I don’t want to blame the voters (and get myself in trouble) but I readily admit to not understanding their choices – and not just in the last elections, though that one took me greatly by surprise.

These nutters didn’t appear from out of ether. The voters put them there even when they had saner alternatives.

        • 119 vcprezofan2
          February 3, 2015 at 11:28 pm

True in part, BUT, we also have to remember the role the MSM play consistently, repeatedly and unrelentingly by hyping up the nutters at the expense of the saner alternatives.

          • 120 amk for obama
            February 3, 2015 at 11:45 pm

If you look at the numbers who listen to emmessem, it’s minuscule to the voting population. It’s deliberate wanton voting for the thugs and that too repeatedly.

              February 3, 2015 at 11:54 pm

But, but, but, but those who listen pass on their informed opinion to many of those who don’t, and they do so with great conviction. In truth I don’t disagree with you, just that along with your perspective is the fact that many more non-thug voters need a kick of reality in the butt.

Australia PM Abbott faces backbench rebellion.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is facing a growing backbench rebellion, with three MPs calling for a vote on his leadership.

One Liberal MP, Dennis Jensen, has publicly called on the prime minister to step down.

Questions over Mr Abbott’s leadership have grown amid a popularity slump and a shock defeat for his Liberal-National coalition in the Queensland election.

I think the LCP will be 42 – there are 89seats in total 44, 42, 2 other party and 1 independent

THe LCP are certainly trying to deal – the local paper (Murdoch) is already supporting them. One of the seats won by Labor may have to be a do over (3rd party candidate was not eligible to be a candidate). If labor were to lose that looking at 43:43

BTW, JO’B, you’ll appreciate that while shopping today I gathered some extra exercise brownie points for myself. I saw, and bought “Alvin Ailey dance moves! A new way to exercise”. Just the fact that I now own ‘a new way to exercise’ ought to count for something, right? 😉

🙂 I wasn’t sure …a bit brain weary. When I’m a bit perkier tomorrow I’ll question you about brownie points.

Sweet dreams when you enter/re-enter dreamland later!

                    February 4, 2015 at 12:32 am

The “brownie” reference was because I like chocolate and I was leaving off the “points” part to make my point … and I gave up said chocolate for the entire month of January, less one day. So, now, everything chocolate is catching my eye!

                    Sweet dreams.

We are walking together tonight, but we are not in synch at all. My last bit of muttering related to the actual origin/meaning of the expression ‘brownie points’. At least that was the intent in my mind – can’t see what I actually wrote right now, and am not even going to try until after I sleep and wake up.

    The “Inescapable Network of Mutuality”
It strikes me that the current clash over the outbreak of measles with the “rights” of parents to not vaccinate their children is a perfect demonstration of what Rev. Martin Luther King said back in 1965.

We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. And what affects one directly affects all indirectly.

This is where the conservative argument that freedom is only about individual freedom breaks down. If my child’s health is affected by your decision about whether or not to vaccinate your child, we really do live in an “inescapable network of mutuality.”

President Obama spoke about this mutuality on a global scale during his speech in Cairo back in 2009. ……………………….. //
