So far every amendment to the Keystone bill has failed…even the Republican ones.

    Woot !

I am pretty close to giving up. I left Ed on in the background while preparing dinner—(Big Mistake)— and I heard Ed Rendell talking about how 2016 will be about change and how Lady Walmart is the best one to bring change?????

That is the problem right there. It isn’t change America needs. We need carrying on. We need continuity. We need the Obama Agenda to be completed and enhanced.

Rendell’s other message was that Elizabeth Warren would just get in the way and has no chance anyway and also she says she is not running.

I think we need continuity and youthful energy and charisma. So Bob’s slate of VPOTUS + Warren doesn’t work for me. Two old white folks. As much as I like them both. As a duo it does not inspire me.

Anybody here with a winning slate in mind?

I’m putting Gov. Deval Patrick in.

I so want him to throw his hat in the race. Maybe Secretary Julián Castro could be his running mate.

      A Patrick/Castro ticket.

Now you are talking. I love both of those men. I also think Bill de Blasio has what it takes. Not as Pres, but VP.

        Oh that would be awesome!

If Uncle Joe decides to sit out, I’d be onto them like popcorn!

      • January 28, 2015 at 7:40 pm

        WHOA, yeah.

GOP would disintegrate into tiny toxic particles.

      • January 28, 2015 at 7:42 pm

What I love about Deval Patrick is that he has the passion and the guts, the forward vision and the smarts to move our country ahead in the same direction. Sadly, he’s light years ahead of the Democratic Party.

This! Dem Party better wake up with a quickness!

          • January 28, 2015 at 7:56 pm

The brilliance of President Obama – razor sharp political mind, stunning strategy, inordinate compassion and authenticity – is confounding for the ordinary run-of-the-mill DC politician. Are we honestly going to throw ourselves back to retreads in 2016? Candidates who are deeply a part of DC yet think of themselves as “outsiders”? I just can’t stomach that.

    • January 28, 2015 at 7:36 pm

This is very clearly what her campaign has been pushing for a very long time – she is the great white HOPE who’s going to get stuff done because she’s not Barack Obama. And they don’t want a messy primary, so let’s just CROWN HER NOW. I don’t know why anyone would swallow that but apparently the entire Democratic Party has. The steamroll has left the station.

You have been saying this for many months meta and it is increasingly clear that you were right then and now.

        How Dumb are they???
Barack Obama is the sun the moon and the stars and they run the other way.

I think 1) Either like Alison LG they don’t want to win. They just want to make sure they contribute to imaginary POTUS losses. You know make him a lamest duck ever. (How’s that worked out for you Alison and the rest of you?? PBO sure doesn’t look lame to America.)

        2) Lady Walmart’s campaign-in-waiting will drag its heels endlessly and then take a pass. Dooming the party that rejected her. Giving GOP a free run for as long as possible. The upside for Clintonland here is that PBO won”t be able to have brought about consecutive Democratic Presidencies. PBO’s winning % already have bested Bill Clinton. And yes, I do think that there is vicious competition. And that the Clintons live for an imaginary win against PBO that will never come.

        • January 28, 2015 at 8:10 pm

I’m not exactly sure what you’re saying but there’s NO WAY HRC isn’t running. Her PAC has been fundraising for years and she’s been staffing up for almost a year. I just hope her announcement isn’t another excruciating “let’s have a conversation” from a chintz couch.
She is obviously searching for ways to distinguish herself from PBO although I do think she is blown away by his pragmatic brilliance. She will go out of her way to prove herself by sounding and acting hawkish on just about everything, even going so far as to flashing displays of a temper. And Bill will be waaaay out front saying just about anything to get back into the White House and the history books, proving his ego is worthy of all our love. Just my opinion.

            January 28, 2015 at 8:23 pm

Fundraising and staffing up are signs of an impending campaign. I get that. But until she is officially an announced candidate, she is simply fundraising and staffing up.

Meanwhile, Her speeches to banks and corporations are making her very rich. The fees would not be the same if she was not a potential candidate.

You are probably right and I am grasping at straws.

            • January 28, 2015 at 8:32 pm

Well, she says her speaking fees go to the Clinton Foundation, which BTW, I have never been able to quite figure out. It’s a massive organization with several entities. The Clinton Global Initiative alone has assets of over $73.5B. They have some investments but they don’t give out many grants. I guess they primarily fund conferences? I don’t know. Anyway, I understand the grasping.

            • January 28, 2015 at 9:11 pm

this is what Sarah Palin did….fundraising…and raise speculation…the only difference is that she did not staff up…Hillary Clinton has yet to say what she is for and why she is running for President…just stating that you are not “Pres OBAMA” means nothing…. .

Palin doesn’t share her funds with anyone & never raises enough to pay more than half a dozen on a part time basis – probably to babysit the youngest

“apparently the entire Democratic Party has.”

I don’t think so. That was the same meme pushed when she ran against then Barack Obama and look how that turned out.

I support joe/warren ticket since they are the ones who are most likely to continue the PBO’s path and hold his coalition together. If the boneless dem critters back billary (I so remember their cowardice in 2006-08), welcome to a rethug prez.

This is definitely in the top 10 favorite vines.

After that fucked up piece on race that Jonathan Chait wrote, I was done with him. Since he got his butt handed to him by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Melissa Harris Perry, he’s been desperately clawing for some semblance of his former rarified existence. That sums up his new BS piece. People like Chait are pissed off that their narrow world where they are constantly bowed to and told that their work is the greatest thing since sliced bread has been blown wide open and now other voices have some space to challenge his ramblings. He and his ilk were surprised and are most likely still butt-hurt that the masses didn’t rise up in uproar for them when they quit The New Republic (TNR). Chait needs to go have a stadium full of seats.

As for this dude? Well, good riddance to bad rubbish. As it is said – ‘don’t let the door hit ya, where the good lord split ya!’

Tiresome for sure. Over-privileged white men who cannot understand why we are not that into them. Ezra Klein, Jonathan Chait, Andrew Sullivan.

    • January 28, 2015 at 7:39 pm

I don’t understand the mindset, other than privileged white male. As a think, as a writer, you don’t get mowed down by other opinions. You listen and you think and you analyze and you adjust and go on to form new ideas and move the conversation forward. It’s called LEARNING.

The Chinese manufacturer of a drone that crashed into the White House lawn earlier this week is taking action to prevent repeat incidents.

DJI said it would publish a firmware update in the “coming days” that would prevent its kit flying inside Washington DC’s restricted airspace.

It added that a later update would stop aircraft crossing national borders.

Last week, one of its quadcopters was found on the ground of a car park close to the Mexico-US divide.

Bags containing methamphetamine had been taped to its body, leading to the suspicion that traffickers had tried to use it to smuggle the illegal drug into the States.

Owners of the Phantom 2 family of drones will need to download the firmware and install it for the restrictions to take effect, and it is possible that programmers will be able to de-active the limitations in new models, which will come with the code pre-installed.

Understand, IMHO, that was no “late night, drunk fly over;” that was a test flight to check out what type of security is in place for items going over the gate. I believe they were doing high and low flyovers. Think about it, although I’m sure there are some type of monitors in place, it can’t be too sensitive, otherwise it would go off with each passing bird or insect. The drone was a test…
