Spectacular images and links, Nerdy Wonka, as is always the case. Missed a lot since their first events, but I feel relieved knowing I can check in for the latest from TOD, and also go back and meander through every single glowing shining fascinating nuanced bit. There is SO MUCH here. Thank you for all of it.

Beautiful, beautiful photo collection, Nerdy. I would love to think that PBO feels all the love we send him on these trips. We worry about every detail, feel pride at his every word and look and treasure his interactions with foreign leaders in places where he’s admired and respected. There’s no one else in the country, aside from those traveling with him. who get this close to experiencing his trips. It’s just an amazing and wonderful gift we get only here and that makes us very, very lucky people. Thanks to you and Chips for all the very hard work it takes for us to travel with our president.

‘for whatever reason’– sorry to say, it hasn’t been apparent that congressional dems are standing with the president and his plans. evidenced by the recent election, when they pretended there wasn’t a popular, 2-term democratic president whose many successes they could have championed.

      • January 26, 2015 at 6:42 pm

i know…talk about shooting themselves in the foot…according to polls…if you believe polls …most Americans agree with the issues that the President outline in his SOTU address

Indian PM had his name woven in his Outfit. Interesting.

I remembered that The deposed Egyptian president, Mubarak had his name woven in to his Western Designer Suit in 2009 or so.
I don’t really get the reason why, frankly.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was released from the hospital in Washington on Monday afternoon after successful surgery to remove a blood clot in his right eye, his office said.

His spokesman Adam Jentleson said the senator was resting at home and in good spirits, “cracking jokes” with his wife. He added, “Doctors have said they are optimistic about his prospects for regaining vision in his right eye but there is no definitive verdict yet.”

we should symbolically sue the Supreme Ct for allowing this travesty to happen in the first place!

      • January 26, 2015 at 7:12 pm

however…i remind myself…the PBO was able to defeat the big money in 2012…Romney was so convinced that he was going to win…that he did not write a concession speech…Rove did not accept the President won Ohio….but the President will not be running in 2016…i do not know what will happen

        • January 26, 2015 at 7:21 pm

Yes, PBO beat the big money and so did Mayor de Blasio and just yesterday PM Elect Tsipras did the same – and in all three cases the vast majority of the media was set against them, as well.

If VP Biden announces he will run, he will win because he will motivate an enormous turnout and he will have PBO & First Lady Obama working overtime on his behalf. As all of you know, I think if he teams with Senator Warren he will not only win, make history, but have an incredibly strong partner in restoring the middle class.

This is in the Page, AZ area on the Utah border, where the old-timers had “uranium on the cranium,” according to historical markers.

Page is about equidistance from NV and NM — across the Utah border is the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, which is remote, sparsely visited and spectacular. Further east is Monument Valley, the staple of Westerns and advertisements — always photographed from the eastern entrance.

End of US Geography class for now, LOL.

I’m a true blue Westerner, and since I hate to fly, my vacations are almost always west of the Rockies.

Alaska was the exception — I split the trip into two segments — first to Seattle for a few days, then to AK — you know I prefer window seats, and the scenery from Seattle to Anchorage is spectacular from the air.

              January 26, 2015 at 8:28 pm

That’s funny. I hate to fly too and I also prefer window seats. Of course, *I* don’t check out the scenery – I bury my head in a book, and being at the window means I don’t have to get up to let anyone in or out.

      YES!!!!

This is why I was so bent out of shape when I realized about a year or so ago that both Ed Shultz and Rev. Al use most of their airtime poking fun at the GOP.

We give them/ allow them to take up all the oxygen in the room.

Or we allot our teensy tiny bit of “Democratic” (HA) coverage to campaigns-in-waiting.

      Where is Our voice?

currently on the new york times frontage i cannot find a single mention of the historic trip to india by president obama, and certainly nothing about all the incredible accomplishments he’s having while there. not one thing. stuff about kobe bryant. the small drone crash. koch bros spending $1 billion to buy the white house. i’ve scrolled to bottom, and even looked at the “world” and “politics” sections on the front page. nothing whatsoever by this so-called liberal paper.

    • 84 arapaho415
      January 26, 2015 at 7:29 pm

MSM’s coverage is tempered down because PBO and PM Modi have reached agreements that will benefit business and the military-industrial-complex, thus they have nothing to report.

LL thinks it might be a white (Europe, Australia, etc.) vs. brown (India) phenomenon, but my personal opinion is that it’s because they are at a loss as to how to spin this negatively against PBO.

i’m convinced it’s because they haven’t found a negative spin yet. if they do find something, it’ll be front page for days, with opinion pieces to back it up and tons of unchallenged quotes from random republicans.

      • January 26, 2015 at 8:01 pm

Agree. PBO created billions of dollars of new biz opportunities for an array of US companies, and he trumped Putin, big time, and he didn’t wear a tan suit …..

The print version I got this morning had excellent coverage.
Front page full color photo of PBO,headline “Pomp and Progress in India.” Story on page 5 two more good photos, one with FLOTUS, the other with President Obama’s hands in namaste prayer position.
Story by the usually revolting Peter Baker was extensive and stressed our new and strong ties to India.
Final quote is “The traditional reluctance to be seen with the Americans is over.” Said by aide to Modi

      I’ll say Bearhug.

Still 4more you are not wrong. India one day story

that’s surprising, especially since it’s so the opposite on the web site. maybe they people who made the print edition got in trouble for practicing, you know, journalism, so the management compensated by “fixing” the site! 😉

PBO now has to contend for media attention against the #2015Blizzard, so no hope for online coverage for the next couple of days.

But this is funny (just started raining [YAY!] where I am about a half an hour ago — but it’s warm (about 70F), so this must be tropical, not arctic winter storm).

Maybe he should be named Duncecap (although his actual name is appropriate too)?

GREAT FALLS – The United States Attorney’s Office announces that Everett Skunkcap, 75, of Browning, Montana, was ordered to pay $30,000 in restitution for shooting three grizzly bears. U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston ordered that Skunkcap also be sentenced to six months jail, which was suspended on the condition that Skunkcap timely pay all restitution.
    ………………………..
When questioned about the shootings, Skunkcap admitted that he indeed shot the bears. He then asked investigators if he could have the grizzlies back when the investigation was complete. Skunkcap stated he was going to “tan them and put them on the wall [as a] souvenir for what [he] did.”

Five months prior to the shooting, Skunkcap told Blackfeet Fish and Wildlife Technicians that he shot a different grizzly bear last year, and, if any grizzlies were on his property, he would shoot them again. Skunkcap was instructed to call the office if there were bear management issues. Skunkcap responded that he would just shoot them anyway.
    ………………………… /

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/environment/climate-of-doubt/how-climate-change-may-lead-to-bigger-blizzards/

With every winter storm, including the blizzard hitting the Northeast this week, climate change skeptics return to a familiar argument: If the world is getting warmer, why am I stuck out here, shoveling so much snow?

Climate scientists tell FRONTLINE that blizzards don’t refute evidence of climate change — in fact, climate change can make blizzards more intense. The first thing people need to understand, they say, is the difference between climate and weather.
