Hiya vc – you’re back with us today! πŸ™‚ And I hope you didn’t eat anything that you personally did not prepare yesterday. No food gifts from certain others? πŸ™‚

Hello, Hopef! I’m back and learning my way around my ThinkPad. Yesterday worked out okay for me and my stomach lining as I was on a virtual fast – Thanks for asking. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ I actually enjoyed the pull-up-a-chair sit-down portion of the invitation, so all went well.

How are you, VC! True, it’s been a while. I’ve been doing more lurking than not since the holidays. This has been one of the few times recently that we’ve been in the village at the same time. πŸ˜€

I am fine…r than I have been for the last few days after my laptop went into strike mode without any hints as to its demands. Right now life’s good, even if I am a little uncertain of which buttons to push. Also have to be adjusting my reach as this is a smaller keyboard, but hey, I can talk with you so I ‘ain’t misbehaving complaining’.

I’m in the process of catching up on the posts from overnight.

Once again, Chipsticks, thank you for hosting our virtual trip with POTUS and FLOTUS. We are able to experience the events we would have no visibility of if we had to depend on our “crackerjack” US press. Based on the comments I see, it’s apparent that they do not seem to be aware of what country they are in since their questions are not about the President’s visit to India.

The President said that if he could have a super power, he would like to be able to speak any language so that he could talk with anyone in the world. I submit that his smile is a universal language that is well received wherever he goes. πŸ˜€

    Back to catching up!

Congratulations on First, “Swift-as-a-Gazelle”! Good….Afternoon, TOD family! Lovely lovely portrait. Of COURSE our beloved and gracious FLOTUS would choose a fabulous ensemble designed by an Indian (or Indian-American?) designer. And POTUS’s message in the guest book, lifting up Ghandi and MLK as he arrives. We are so blessed, lucky, in good brilliant hands of their leadership. Chips, the feast of links, images, videos, has been beyond superb. I have Big Work I am supposed to be doing, and I blame TOD that I cannot seem to focus on it. Keep ‘fixing’ to get down to work and then another itch to check out TOD — thankful. #NamastePOTUS #NamasteOBAMA

Thank you again for this comprehensive coverage. Nobody does it like Chips, Nerdy and TOD!!!

Excellent news from Greece. Polls have closed and it looks like a landslide for Syriza the left wing party led by Alexis Tsipras. The Media mostly ignored this race. The NY Times one article (cited as a good one by der Bingle???!!!???) was a classic GOP doom and gloom, suppress the vote, Greece is doomed no matter what, piece of propaganda.

Nevertheless, it looks like the RW Golden Dawn and the old Democracy party have been soundly defeated and Greece will have the opportunity to try and come out from under their woes.

Just popping in and I’m so happy to read this Vicki! I have a dear friend who is Jewish and married to a Greek guy whose family has property there. They had dreams of one day perhaps living there but she has been so worried about the RW Golden Dawn influence. Gland to hear they were defeated!

This news outlet is criticizing the US Media – mocking them on their lack of coverage of the PResident’s historic visit to India.

// Washington: Indian media has been covering the US President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama’s visit to India non-stop. Indeed, it is one of the biggest media events of the New Year. But, the American media has largely ignored Obama’s visit to India to be the chief guest at the Republic Day. Some of them have given a cursory coverage to the high profile visit.

The iconic US newspaper ‘New York Times’ has no report on Obama’s visit to India in its print edition. Most leading newspapers have reports on the ISIS threat, death of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and domestic issues of the US.

In an article in DNA, US based commentator Dr. Munish Raizada writes from Chicago that largely self-consuming, US media has thus far cold shouldered the Indian trip by its President. TV channels here are known for broadcasting crime news as the breaking news and where weather report is presented in a very celebrated manner hour after hour. Even the TV channels that pledge politics as their dharma (the famous phrase “Politics = CNN”), their weekends are mainly spent showing crime serials. Given this morphology of TV media and a political milieu studded with Republicans, it is not surprising that Obama’s visit to India remains largely uncovered so far. USA media as usual continues to ‘indulge’ in Middle East, ISIS, terrorism and related latest news (Yemen falls, Saudi King dies). //

It is now my greatest media wish that she becomes moderator on Meet The Press — I think her name is Marka, will ask amk when he returns.

“Following the blizzard, a dangerously cold Arctic outbreak waits in the wings, with wind chills forecast to plunge to as low as minus-30 degrees Fahrenheit in New Jersey during the first week of February.”

Ughhh I absolutely hate the way every US administration lets Israel get away with these types of transgressions, their settlement agression in Palestine and most importantly, with their bad faith in negotiations for peace. If anything, you would think tht since Israel largely depends on the US for money, military support and trade that we would be in the driver’s seat. Instead we act like the abused spouse.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Thank you Chips and all for the wonderful report and photos of our beloved President and First Lady’s trip to India. PM Modi, like President Obama, is pretty damned good at smacking down the stupid press! Loved it!

After doing much research, we’re off to purchase a new computer. I just can’t put it off any longer, especially since I need it for work. Thank goodness I have my own personal “Geek Squad” (Hubby) who has spent hours and hours trying to solve my computer’s issues, which includes being on the phone with tech services (God Bless Him!)

Hello TOD! I have to work today so I can’t stay long, but I just had to share something that made my heart glad!

One of my clients lives near a certain off-ramp of the freeway. As you exit onto this off-ramp, there is a signpost where some awful person had pasted up a sign that said, “Obama Must Go!”

I’ve wanted to get out of my car and tear that thing off or paste a pro-PBO sign over it, but the off-ramp is always super busy and too dangerous to stop, plus I would have been holding up cars coming off the freeway rapidly. I thought about perhaps coming back in the middle of the night, when it was slower, to get rid of that awful sign, but I never had the opportunity. This has driven me crazy and made me oh-so-mad for over a year now.

Well, this past week, when I went to see my client, the sign was gone!!! πŸ™‚ Someone like me had found a way to take it down! I can’t tell you how happy this has made me. I just passed it again yesterday and smiled a huge smile! All is right with the world!

If one of the lurkers here at TOD is responsible for removing that sign, I want to thank you and say bless you! bless you! bless you!

    • January 25, 2015 at 2:49 pm

What a relief that must be! I often have the same feeling when I see bumper stickers with Pro-McCain or even Pro-Romney slogans, or that horrific “Don’t Tread on Me” nonsense. Luckily, once the car passes, it’s over. But, to see a sign continuously like that – I would have joined you in the middle of the evening to take down that sign…

Such a joy and delight to see how beautifully she moves through the world, her external beauty and sense of style, expression, and creativity reflecting the deep spring of beauty and goodness within. i was getting interested in this hank green guy after he went after rupert murdoch, but he keeps pushing the “msnbc and fox are the same thing just promoting different sides” B.S.!!

hopefully some people are setting him straight that msnbc is not some liberal mouthpiece with hours of joe scar, chuck todd and so on everyday, and even the so-called “liberals” on the network are constantly ignoring the tremendous accomplishments of president obama and bashing him as much as any republican. people have got to stop with this false equivalence between fox and msnbc.

    • 137 idon
      January 25, 2015 at 3:33 pm

I think what Hank was trying to say is both the hate and fear mongerers (FOX) and the oh he’s just in over his head (MSNBC) narratives are designed to foment disrespect and disengagement in the political process. When Rachel Maddow brings on Richard Engel to essentially call the President a liar, I would say same shoe different color. I don’t watch any news shows on television. I’m committed to putting all news outlets out of the 24/7 business.

        January 25, 2015 at 5:08 pm

Fox attacks the President from the right and MSNBC attacks the President from the left. Both are garbage and Hank is right to call out both.

  33. January 25, 2015 at 2:49 pm

Thanks Chips and everyone for this great coverage of the President and First Lady’s visit to India. India for me has been an historical font of spiritual knowledge and practice. I am so pleased that the President is there and so well received with affection and respect. My younger sister in the 1970s spent five years at Dharmsala in Northern India in the mountains, the home of the Dalai Lama where she studied Vajrayana Buddhist practice. I have been a student of Buddhism, as well as the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishad texts. One of my spiritual mentors in my journey was Bede Griffiths, a Christian monk who settled in India to “find the other half of my soul.” He founded several Christian/Hindu ashrams in India with blended practice.

The cream-coloured ‘Kadhua’ silk saree, an exclusive product of this region, was hand-woven using gold and silver threads by three classic weavers, weighs around 400 grams and costs about Rs 1.5 lakh.

“The traditional Indian dress was prepared by three classic weavers and dispatched for New Delhi yesterday from here,” said local businessman Abdul Matin, whose family has been in handloom weaving business for last three generations.

Michelle is accompanying her husband and US President Barack Obama, who is in New Delhi to be a part of Republic Day function as the Chief Guest.

Keeping in mind Michelle’s fascination for Banarasi silk, Matin said the order for this saree was placed with him by Debbie Driesman, the wife of Indian-American Frank Islam, a trusted man of the US President. Azamgarh-born Frank was recently conferred with Martin Luther King Junior award in the US.

He is also part of the high-level US delegation which arrived today in New Delhi. The ‘Kadhua’ silk saree is rare, purely hand-woven and takes from three to four months to prepare, Matin said.
