A team of Scottish scientists has made light travel slower than the speed of light.

They sent photons – individual particles of light – through a special mask. It changed the photons’ shape – and slowed them to less than light speed.

The photons remained travelling at the lower speed even when they returned to free space.

The experiment is likely to alter how science looks at light.

The collaborators – from Glasgow and Heriot-Watt universities – are members of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance. They have published their results in the journal Science Express.

The speed of light is regarded as an absolute. It is 186,282 miles per second in free space.

Light propagates more slowly when passing through materials like water or glass but goes back to its higher velocity as soon as it returns to free space again.

Or at least it did until now.

RICHMOND, Va., Jan 23 (Reuters) – A disciplinary board of the Virginia State Bar said on Friday it had suspended the law license of former Governor Robert McDonnell after his conviction on 11 felony federal corruption charges.

The state bar cited the felonies as the reason for his disbarment, which is effective Jan. 29.

The former governor was ordered to appear before the state bar’s disciplinary board on Feb. 20 to show cause why his license should not be further suspended or revoked.

But Edward L. Davis of the state bar said McDonnell could petition to have the show-cause hearing postponed pending the outcome of his appeal.

“If he asks for a continuance of a show-cause hearing, he gets it,” Davis said.

A guy brings his dog into the vet and says, “Could you please cut my dog’s tail off?”

The vet examines the tail and says, “There is nothing wrong. Why would you want this done?”

The man replies, “My mother-in-law is coming to visit, and I don’t want anything in the house to make her think that she is welcome”

House Republicans Propose Bill Mandating Ultrasounds Before Abortions

hortly after House Republicans had to cancel a vote on an anti-abortion bill that some members found to be too extreme, GOP congressmen on Thursday introduced three new abortion restrictions, including one that would require women to receive an ultrasound procedure before an abortion.

The mandatory ultrasound bill, introduced by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and co-sponsored by 10 Republican men, compels women to “receive an ultrasound and the opportunity to review the ultrasound before giving informed consent to receive an abortion.”

One of the other bills prohibits federal education funds from going to schools with access to an abortion provider on campus, and the other requires states to report information on Medicaid payments to abortion providers.

By the way, Putin CONTINUES his HOT WAR in Ukraine and President Poroshenko is still referring to it as ‘terrorist attacks’ (as are most of the rest of the world). It’s not ‘terrorist attacks’ it’s a dude determined to occupy all of Ukraine. If Ukrainians don’t stop him, he will. That’s just how it works as history teaches ad nauseam — you only win a war be DEFEATING your enemy.

Jeb Bush is light years smarter than McCain. I can guarantee that people will buy it. His much bigger hurdle will be getting past the primaries. If he does – he will be a formidable challenge.”
