      So sad to hear this.

Mr. Cub, always so upbeat, it was contagious.

I don’t follow sports now, but the only athlete in the last 25 years or so that I can think of with his sunny outlook is Magic Johnson.

Grateful that he met President Obama when he received the Medal of Freedom award.

Will go to bed with a tear in my ear.

Rest in Peace, dearest Ernie, you made the game you loved so special.

The media might be “surprised” but I am not – EVERY leader in the world would be a willing partner to President Obama – the GOP congress – not so much. Pleased PBO has left them all at home to spend their time on useless legislation he intends to veto

Yeah we’re nuts πŸ™‚ I follow PBO YouTube channel and got nothing. I visited India in 1977 and if I recall it was 14 hours ahead of US so he would have to leave this am to get there on Sunday morning.

Okay, then maybe we’re not too late. Ah! Wonderful, that must have been amazing. A trip to India is definitely on my bucket list.

Indian Standard Time (IST) is GMT +5.5) Eastern Standard Time (EST) for me in Atlanta is GMT -5.0. That’s where I got the 10.5 hrs.
Depending on time of year (daylight savings time), that would make Indian 14.5 hrs ahead of US Pacific time.. πŸ™‚

I’ll give it a few more minutes. In the meantime, there’s some news..

Not sure if the second part is true, but according to this article POTUS is canceling the planned visit to the Taj Mahal and… get this, heading to Saudi Arabia instead!!! Wow!

    • 95 idon
      January 24, 2015 at 6:32 am

Yep I read PBO would not be able to visit Taj Mahal but I think it is partly due to the type of security measures that would be required. There was another area he could not visit because there was a section of the area his security advance team felt did not mneet their security standards. I think PBO will be visiting the royal family and some other diplomatic work. I wonder if the First Lady will also attend given that they have added a Saudi leg to the trip. I really hope she can still participate.

Just wanted to say how much I love you and all of TOD for finding “news you can use.”

I have no idea why I cannot break my habit of listening to CBS national radio news because 9 times out of 10 they anger me so — you would think their paychecks were from Fox News. It’s obvious that their “security expert,” former CIA agent, would like nothing better than a GWB 3rd term. This morning he rattled on about how the Yemen coup is a setback for US counterterrorism, for the Obama Adm especially.

I don’t understand how reports like this help anyone. All it does is undermine US foreign policy and/or blame the Obama Adm over something they have no control over. Instead, CBS refuses to air what Josh Earnest said at the WH press briefing yesterday — that the rebels in Yemen are avowed enemies of AQAP, so the coup does NOT advance AQAP. Josh also said that it’s understandable that Saudi Arabia is concerned because Yemen is its southern neighbor and are Shiite, not Sunni Muslims.

The other f**king thing that happened at yesterday’s WHPB is the MSM furor (once again, the MSM literally verbally assaulted Josh) over @VP to Saudi King memorial service instead of PBO, and the possibility of both POTUS and VP being out of the country at the same time — Josh said if this happened it would not be unprecedented.

Our MSM does nothing but stir up trouble and controversy where it doesn’t exist, regardless of what is best for America and the frigging world. They completely IGNORE the horrendous slaughter of school children in Pakistan in favor of Je Suis Charlie which was shocking and reprehensible, but adults who made their own decisions were slaughtered, not hundreds of innocent children in a classroom. And now they change events in the world by focusing on the “optics” of the death of one 90-year-old King versus an historic event in the world’s largest democracy.

Had no idea that PBO had to cancel Taj Mahal — so very disappointed for everyone on the whirlwind trip to India. So yes, I’m staying with TOD for India updates and will try to stop listening to the radio news.

This was posted 5 minutes ago:

US Prez Barack Obama to leave for India shortly, Air Force one all set to take off

“New Delhi: US President Barack Obama who will leave Andrews Air Force Base Saturday evening for his highly anticipated three-day landmark trip to India has cancelled his Agra visit,

The US President along with his wife Michelle Obama were scheduled to visit Agra on January 27 to see the Taj Mahal.

According to reports, the security chief who was organising President Obama’s Agra visit received a letter stating that the advisors of the visiting dignitary were allegedly unhappy over a 150 metre stretch near the Taj Mahal that he would have had to walk.

No vehicle is allowed upto the main outer gate of the mausoleum.

Obama will be leaving for Saudi Arabia from New Delhi itself after addressing a select gathering on January 27.

The entire stretch from Delhi to Agra was supposed to remain under high alert January 27 and for three hours people would not be able to use their mobile phones in the vicinity of the Taj Ganj area, the Mall road and the Fatehabad road as electronic jammers would be in operation, officials said.”

Well you know with all the heat the President got for not going to Paris for that march, so I guess with the death of the Saudi King it wouldn’t look right for the President to be visiting the Taj Mahal, so he will go pay his respects and meet the new King.

“U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to meet its new King Salman after the death of his predecessor Abdullah on Friday, testimony to Riyadh’s important role in energy markets and the fight against Islamist militancy.

Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande and Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito will visit on Saturday and Sunday to offer condolences.

Obama will cut short a visit to India to pay his respects instead of Vice President Joe Biden, who had been scheduled to fly in from Washington, the White House said on Saturday.:

Statement by the President and First Lady on the Passing of Ernie Banks

Michelle and I send our condolences to the family of Ernie Banks, and to every Chicagoan and baseball fan who loved him.

Ernie came up through the Negro Leagues, making $7 a day. He became the first African-American to play for the Chicago Cubs, and the first number the team retired. Along the way, he became known as much for his 512 home runs and back-to-back National League MVPs as for his cheer, his optimism, and his love of the game. As a Hall-of-Famer, Ernie was an incredible ambassador for baseball, and for the city of Chicago. He was beloved by baseball fans everywhere, including Michelle, who, when she was a girl, used to sit with her dad and watch him play on TV. And in 2013, it was my honor to present Ernie with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Somewhere, the sun is shining, the air is fresh, his team’s behind him, and Mr. Class — “Mr. Cub” — is ready to play two.
