Thanks JB, I am still doctoring for my car accident and Tuesday & Wed. Cardiology. They have me scheduled for an MRI, nvever had one before so have been reading up on it. I think I overdid Fri & Sat and had a rough afternoon yesterday. Hopefully they will find out what the hell happened from my surgery I had in 2013. We will see. Fingers crossed anyway.
What a wonder thread from last night on MLK. LL put together a good one on Bowie and Dudette outdid herself on other music and information. All of you have a wonderful MLK Day.

You’re a lucky person, Dudette. It’s very cold here and some snow’s expected. Plus the ground is covered in ice. Ahh winter, the endless season!

Roberta, we’re fine. We just have to proceed gingerly everywhere we go. I’m just sick of the constant tension of winter and long for day when we can just walk out the door without fear of falling.

This is the message of the ages…”Struggle is a never ending process. Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation #CSK

but the reason for this continuous struggle is because although we win victories…we have yet to win the war….i am not sure if it is possible to ever truly defeat those forces that seek to enslave us….but struggle we must do…because there is no other way

As the President has said…it can be one step forward and the 2 steps backward…this is how progress is made….

I believe that the President will have an extraordinary SOTU address…i look forward to hearing it…i also look forward to “WE The People”…finding our way to implement this agenda…

When i hear the pundits and other criticize the President with comments like…. why now….or that he should have been doing this all along…i know that they do not understand the words of Mrs King…

Blk folks understand these words all too well…

Sing a Song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us
Sing a Song full of the hope that the present has brought us
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us March on til victory is won…

GM, Dudette, thank you for finding and posting this.

Love the idea of MLK as a trekker.

I saw most of the first 2 years of the original Star Trek shows when they originally aired. By the time the last season aired, it was on a Friday night (think the first shows were on a Wednesday or Thursday night), and I usually went to high school events on Friday nights when it aired. But I caught up the next day with my best friend, who preferred family to HS social outings. Still remember hearing her recap the episode when Capt Kirk kissed a woman, LOL.

It’s hard to believe that nearly 50 years after Star Trek aired that Hollywood seems whiter than ever. It seemed completely natural to have a multi-cultural cast, and I expected that this would continue and blossom as we moved toward the future.

Since Bill Cosby was Bill Culp’s partner on “I Spy,” Nichelle’s role seemed natural to me (and Diahann Carol’s Julia followed shortly thereafter), but casting George Takei was an important step because it was only 20 years after WWII, when Japanese were the Muslims of today — *only* cast as duplicitous, treacherous villains and betrayers.

Have a wonderful day — the weather gods have blessed Atlanta today — perfect crowd weather.

Thanks for all your amazing posts these past few days!

So waking up this morning watching CBS Morning, I see them talking to Frank Luntz that Republican pollster, well in that Republican poll 59% want Mitt to run, Ted Nugent’s buddy Mike Huckabee were at 40%, Jerry Jones buddy Chris Christie were at 29%. I might have missed some others, but the 59% of those right wing racists tea party Republicans want Mitt to run. All I can say is that race in 2016 will be a big joke like it was in 2012. I don’t remember seeing Ben Carson name. He is so foolish to think that those people want him as their President.

Bella, I don’t believe anything coming from Republican pollsters. They will get whatever results they want (and whatever they’re paid to get). This is all about manipulating a narrative and has as much truth to it as a fairy tale.

      • January 19, 2015 at 8:10 am

GM jackie, the people poll were only right wingnuts Republicans I think. But like you I trust nothing that is Republican. But I got a good laugh at that 59% want Mitt to run.

I didn’t know this was happening until it was over, but the “Die-in” demonstrators went to the Pa Farm Show in Harrisburg and made a powerful statement. This is tough territory to take the message.

Pa’s new governor has appointed a transgender physician to his cabinet–a good sign that change is coming to the state. Wolf is going to be severely hampered by a Republican legislature, but he’s learning a lesson the president is teaching Democratic governors–do as much as you can within the legal purview of your powers and don’t be intimidated by the opposition.

    • January 19, 2015 at 8:54 am

I have noticed all along how he has mimicked the President in terms of how he ran his campaign..fundraising…he will need a grass roots group to help push his agenda thru….PA is notorious for its Big Party Boss politics…it has never been from the ground up/ always from the top down……he needs an OFA type of group….that Progressive group would be a good organizing group..if it turns it attention to grass roots efforts.

Richest 1% ‘to own more than the rest’. Wealth amassed by the richest 1% will soon overtake the amount owned by everyone else in the world.

I hope everyone has a lovely MLK day. Our First Family will no doubt be taking part in community service. I look forward to some cool video.

I had an amazing weekend. Went up north to visit my BFFs. He’s a director of an environmental agency (water) that hosts an annual film festival, so lots of great films, panels, events on all aspects of saving our planet. SO so so proud of Zero Waste, a film on SF’s recycling & repurposing program with a goal of having NO landfill or incineration of waste products – and we’re almost there! My friends also had a dinner party on Saturday night where one of the guests was the ghostwriter for Sonia Sotomayor’s memoir. WHAT an absolute privilege to meet her! She’s an amazing woman with so many great stories about spending months with our wonderful Supreme Court Justice, helping her shape the narrative of her life’s story. I got to sit next to her at the table and she is a blast. She also happened to be an Obamabot, of course!!

HEADLINE: Alan Gross is Obama guest at State of the Union

//Gross and his wife Judy were listed among the two-dozen or so guests who were invited to the First Lady’s box, a high-profile seating assignment designated for Americans who the White House believes illustrate their policies at work.

At the time of his release in December, Gross was five years into a 15-year prison sentence for allegedly working on behalf of America to undermine Havana’s government. On the day of his release, President Barack Obama announced the United States would renew diplomatic relations with Cuba for the first time in decades, loosening travel and trade restrictions and beginning the process of opening an embassy in Havana. //
