I want to thank everybody for congratulating me on being number #1 again, thank you. I did not become number #1 by pure luck, I became number by commitment and perseverance. I could have taken the easy way out by browsing the internet for new furniture or looking at the latest fashion and running back here to TOD to see if there was a new thread up and hurriedly trying to type something first, no. I did not take the easy way out, I refreshed and refreshed and when I was bone tired I refreshed again. Hard work people, hard work is what is needed to reach new heights.

Ok, I needed to be reminded that I wear the CPAP for a reason. Had gone a couple of nights without wearing it, and felt like crap the next morning. Wore it last night/this morning, and I feel refreshed.

JOB, it’s what every decent human being should be saying, too. If we can’t treat each other with dignity and respect then we don’t have the right to call ourselves civilized people.

57, it looks from these numbers that a CLEAR majority of Republicans support taxing the wealthy. How is this a split? There is no issue in the world that gets 100 percent support so you could say every poll ever taken on any issue is a split, which I think is the very nature of polls.

I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT INVESTORS HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR STUDENTS TO SEE THIS….THE EXPOSURE IS SO IMPORTANT….YOU CAN’T PREVENT A RECYCLE IF THERE’ S A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. MY GOODNESS…EVERY SINGLE ACTOR AND ACTRESS IN THIS MOVIE GAVE EVERYTHING THEY HAD….REMEMBER IT…AND STAND UP AGAINST INJUSTICE!

It’s great that Pope Francis is saying this, but I wish he would look at the fact that women are denied positions of true authority in the Catholic church because the priesthood and all subsequent steps up the hierarchy are closed to them. It is LONG past the time when women should be allowed to enter the priesthood. Parishes across the world, and especially in the US, are hurting because of the shortage of priests. There is no earthly reason why women can’t be allowed to handle the Eucharist, which is all this barrier comes down to. The Catholic church’s leap into the modern era will occur when women are given true equality and patriarchal hierarchies become a thing of the past.

        January 19, 2015 at 4:49 pm

The Pope also came out against any “artificial” birth control. So even though he is showing some modicum of respect for women, he definitely believes that they have a role and a place that they must adhere to.

He is the Catholic Pope after all, but still.

Then please do away with Ban on Contraceptive devices for Women. It was Only a directive from the Pope in 1962/1963 right after Catholic Scientists and Theologians ruled Okay on Contraceptives based on science.

On the eve of the State Of The Union, Republicans were hit with more bad news as 61% of those surveyed in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll supported President Obama’s position on Keystone XL.

Excellent. Thanks, Nancy:) As we know, this fear driven dialog isn’t just about Ebola….it’s about just about everything anymore…especially if it emanates from the mouth of a certain president.

    http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2015/01/lessons-from-media-coverage-of-ebola.html

A new poll last week revealed disturbing trends about the increasingly dire media coverage of the Ebola story in the United States. Measuring the rising anxiety among news consumers, a Rutgers-Eagleton poll of New Jersey residents found that 69 percent are at least somewhat concerned about the deadly disease spreading in the U.S.

The truly strange finding was that people who said they were following the story most closely were the ones with the most inaccurate information about Ebola. The more information they consumed about the dangerous disease, the less they knew about it. How is that even possible?

Poll director David Redlawsk cast an eye of blame on the news media. “The tone of the coverage seems to be increasing fear while not improving understanding,” Redlawsk told a reporter. “You just have to turn on the TV to see the hysteria of the “talking heads” media. It’s really wall to wall. The crawls at the bottom of the screen are really about fear. And in all the fear and all the talking, there’s not a lot of information.”

POOF! Midterms over…so is ISIS and Ebola coverage…..”funny” how that works.

Dr Anthony Fauci was on cspan Q&A last night….

He blamed the American media for the Ebola panic.

The show was amazing…. I had no idea he was one of the people that identified AIDS .

He ended the terror of living as a black person, especially in the south…

It wasn’t that black people had to use a separate drinking fountain or couldn’t sit at lunch counters, or had to sit in the back of the bus.

It was that white people, mostly white men, occasionally went berserk, and grabbed random black people, usually men, and lynched them. You all know about lynching. But you may forget or not know that white people also randomly beat black people, and the black people could not fight back, for fear of even worse punishment.
This constant low level dread of atavistic violence is what kept the system running. It made life miserable, stressful and terrifying for black people. This is the climate of fear that Dr. King ended.

Good article … Catholic Democrats are doing their homework (good charts)!

“During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s, Sr. Mary Peters, a leader of the National Catholic Conference for Interracial Justice, may have said it best. Speaking to a fellow nun, she said, ‘Once you have marched in Selma, Sister, you can never stay home again.'”
