Early Bird Chat

White House (Instagram) – Fiona: “This week, one of the volunteers in my office gave me this candid note from a kid who made us all smile about the upcoming “long boring speech.” When I included it in the group of letters the President read this past Wednesday, he wrote on the front that he wanted to respond and keep a copy of it!”

Today is an R&R day. Worked too hard yesterday but feels good to have my apartment back in it’s boring decor again. Only kidding. We had nice weather the last couple of days so I could actually go to storage & pick up my containers to pack up Xmas decor. Had to have help but got that from one of the men in our building.
Can hardly wait for the SOFTU Tuesday.
Thank you Chips, NW, Bobfr, LL, Dudette, DF, PF for all the information & entertainment. Love all of you. Sanity reigns at TOD. ((((Hugs))))

I know how you feel Roberta. Some years ago my sister took a trip to Chipsland and she couldn’t stop talking about the wonders/beauty of it all. For some reason, she was crazy about the cooking and tried out lots of recipes on her Italian family to a lot of WTF reactions.

            GM Roberta, Chips and JackieG.

Love the way you opened this holiday Sunday and greeted TODville!

Your story about your sister and family’s reaction to (the most) NW European cuisine has me in stitches.

Happy Sunday, everyone, a great launch to an historic week that begins with our Nation’s honor to that great advocate of Justice, MLK Jr., during this upcoming incredible SOTU week.

        2.3% done, eh?
TODvillage is such a wonderful ego-boosting place to hang out – I can always fit myself between the workaholics and ….. the others, in such a way that I feel proud of myself! 😀 😀

Morning. Chips, thanks for finding that letter from Austin. I can just imagine our president chuckling over it and wanting to write back. Don’t know how old little Austin is, but he’s very wise. We all thank our president for what he does, but some of us actually enjoy those long speeches, although the SOTU always has me on pins and needles. I don’t expect anything but hostility from the Republicans in the chamber and the media will outdo each other being stupid, but the Dems had better come through or they’re going to hear from a lot of very angry people.

    • January 18, 2015 at 8:30 am

It’s a complete howl Jackie, “people are just texting while you’re doing it” 😆

I’d give anything to see PBO’s reply!!

That’s the beauty of it the letter–the kid hasn’t learned about diplomatic language yet. He tells it as he sees it.

        What an adorable letter!

Love the little notes made in President Obama’s hand, noting the date read on one side, the “reply and copy” on the other.

I could spend days leafing through documents in his handwriting at his Presidential library. Sounds like a good retirement plan, LOL.

Speaking of which, @NYTimes homepage has an article this morning that said Chicago is on shaky ground for hosting this site, one of the most historical new sites built and developed within living memory.
“Chicago Is No Longer a Lock to Host Obama’s Library” (no doubt another speculation disguised as “news”)

Arapaho, I think there’s a lot of wishful thinking about the Chicago site from those who would be glad to stick it to that city. We’ll see what happens, but I’ll bet the president has something to say about it. I agree that sitting for hours, days, weeks, months in the Obama presidential library is a wonderful way to spend the time.

Yesterday we went to a ‘Live from the Met’ performance of ‘The Merry Widow.’ If you ever get a chance to see this, please do. The audience was packed, everyone was smiling at the end, the music was wonderful and the performances were great. The opera star, Renee Fleming, was the merry widow.

G’morning Chips & TOD! Congrats Roberta on #1:) Happy Sunday everyone. Thanks amk for that lovely Geico gift last night (and the grinning camel too). I look forward to many more such gifts as the year rolls along…

Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Sunday morning. Congrats Roberta, on being first this morning.

Thank God that President Obama is still the President of The United States of America. (* (* (*

GM TOD – I am going to start a new political party called “the summer is too damn hot” party – over 100F here for the past 3 days

    • January 18, 2015 at 9:56 am

Oh crikey, poor 99ts, I would melt – quite literally. Keep cool, if you can!

I has melted – grandbabe was insisting everyone “go outside to see the flowers” about 6pm yesterday – NO CHANCE – much as we love her – we let the flowers wilt unseen.

Sending cool breezes to waft your way.

Totally agree with you on how debilitating the heat can be — mentioned that I turned on the A/C for the first time as an adult in my own home (my current residence is the first I’ve had with A/C — my parents’ home had A/C) because it was 106F during the first part of September.

Just between you and me (Midwest and Northeast US TODers, please avert your eyes), I took a look at our 10-day forecast, which is mid-to-high 70s through Jan. 27 [but with alarming high lows in the upper 50s] — expect periodic LL gloating about our spectacular weather for the rest of the month.

We will soon have to migrate with the seasons! – thank you for the cool – it is supposed to drop tomorrow – but who knows – I find it too hot to sleep – don’t like the aircon at night – may have to change that idea if this keeps up

Good morning TOD. I am catching up after a very busy Saturday.
OMG—PBO’s tax proposals!!! And Bob’s responses pointing out that PBO will once again Reverse Clinton Damage.

The lady-in-waiting crowd are probably hoping that very few Americans understand what POTUS is doing. Not only to help the working class but to further repudiate DINOS.

I love it. Make the rich pay their taxes and provide tax relief to middle and lower income families.

Next a transaction tax on every trade Wall Street makes. Yowza.

Best part is that the fractured GOP-controlled Houses of Congress are on the DEFENSIVE.

MSM is turning a willful blind eye to the fact that the House may vote against, but they face the 99% voters in less than two years.

PBO is grace in motion, a thing of beauty — this week will be something else, with MLK Jr. Day tomorrow, then the SOTU, followed by PBO trolling Idaho and Kansas GOP Governors.

      Truly awesome/awestruck.

And while working on the family tree I remember yet again that Microsoft decided the world began on January 1, 1900. Excel doesn’t recognize any dates before that one. Sigh
