Great collection of tweets NW, as usual. I am struck by the way the white criminals are glorified by being called “Bonnie and Clyde” while blacks doing the same shit would be called lawless thugs, (similar to how the white folks getting supplies from a store during Hurricane Katrina were said to have “found” the goods they were carrying away, while the black folks were referred to as “looters”). This disparate treatment of blacks and whites in the media shows me that people of color are not the media’s intended audience (white folks are the intended audience, so they are not to be demeaned, offended or challenged). It also illustrates the huge role the media, and its disparate treatment of black and white folks, plays in maintaining the white racist power structure that has plagued this country since its founding. Being black in America is increasingly being criminalized.

Wake to my daily news roundup – thanks NW. As I mentioned a few threads ago – the usual suspects asked the usual stupid questions at the press conference & the adults in the room gave the deserved responses

Wonder if nasa will be allowed to continue to produce these reports with the current congress oversight?

“Last year was the Earth’s hottest on record, which America’s space agency NASA says continues a long-term trend towards a warming planet.
NASA’s data shows that not only was 2014 the warmest year recorded since 1880, 10 of the hottest years on record have happened since 1998.”

Today we began our study of Dr. King and the history of the civil rights movement. (We kind of interrupt our history unit which is still back in the 1700’s and the catch up with ourselves later). Before reading a bout about him, I asked my class what they knew about Dr. King. Several children had heard of him and had a general idea of what he had done. I loved one girl’s response. “Well, back then the brown people were treated differently than the peach people and Dr. King didn’t think that was fair so he worked to make it so that brown people and peach people were treated the same.” The ‘brown’ and ‘peach’ part really caught my ear. It really highlighted to me how divisive even the words we’ve chose to describe ourselves are. Black and white are harsh and opposite – and that defines things right away. Brown and peach, however, seems lo more descriptive and gentler. They are not opposites; one complements the other. Or maybe it’s just been a very long day. 😉

Really. This should be intensely interesting. Heart of Koch Country with their utter failure of a Governor—Sam Brownback.

        See downthread.

Mark Knoller says PBO is touring college campuses next week, but in reality he is making inroads in trolling all 31 Republican Governors.

(That’s 2 more than when I Googled last week, so two new GOP Governors since then.)

GE TOD! Great collection of tweets NW – Brittany’s heartbreaking and the pic of the target practice – ugh. Seriously. Then on the other hand: Big Block of Cheese Day. What’s not to like about cheese? ( I live next door to Wisconsin) thx!

Sue Duvall Smith has it right… our energizer bunny President!’

After PBO shell-shocks Congress with his historic SOTU, he goes on the road again, this time to Idaho and Kansas!!!

I’ve said before that Boise is the cutest state capitol city in the USA. It really REALLY reminds me of the town in Back to the Future.

BSU is in the heart of downtown, so hopefully the local broadcasts will include some of the downtown area.

      Guessing game for TODville…

How will PBO troll Idaho and Kansas’ Republican Governors on his visits there next week???

AF1 routinely stops in Alaska or Hawaii to refuel when PBO is coming/going from/to Asia, so he’s been there as President. 🙂

This country’s infrastructure is shameful, and topping the list are the services offered by our neglected capitol city:

POTUS to Idaho and Kansas. Not venues we’d necessarily expect, but Good. PBO bringing his message to his people

It seems to me a big story we at TOD have been discussing but I don’t know if anyone else is talking about is that The President’s party seems to be MIA. Or worse, opposing the Presidents initiatives.

Today President Obama was very clear, as was PM Cameron in warning Senate Dems to back off trying to impose new Iran sanctions.

What will all this mean for the future?

If the Democrats are not with The President, then what exactly are the democrats doing?

And where will TOD and the rest of The Obama Coalition be in a few months?

I have no idea but maybe some of you do.
