Lovely image for our breakfast viewing, Chips. RIP the two heroes from this great circle who departed this world the same day, Jan 5 I believe. I see them suiting up and flying their WWII silver birds on up to the Pearly Gates, where they make a smooth easy landing.

    http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-long-game-on-climate-policy.html

Not only has President Obama secured a major climate agreement with China, there might be another announcement in a couple of weeks.
There could be progress on US-India civil nuclear cooperation, solar power and climate change when US President Barack Obama visits India in two weeks, US officials said on Sunday.
These are the kinds of changes that are possible when you take a systemic view of global challenges and are willing to play the long game.

the present central govt is 100% pro-business. so how far they are willing to go in the climate control, which is exactly not a national priority here, is questionable. they may do some window dressing but not do much in real terms.

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – A judge has granted a motion to dismiss charges against a Steubenville superintendent in return for his resignation.

An agreement was reached between the prosecution and defense, in which Michael McVey must resign as superintendent and must not seek or accept employment at Steubenville City Schools. He also cannot have contact with the school’s administration or board members.

McVey submitted a resignation letter dated January 12, 2015.

The agreement comes after McVey was charged with covering up evidence and withholding information during the investigation into the 2012 rape of a West Virginia girl during an alcohol-fueled party involving members of the Steubenville High School football team.

Good morning all. Just want to repeat some of what I said last night. This Paris march hullabaloo will die down, and PBO will be shown to be right in his actions. The MSM latched on to that because the news had been too good for PBO. Good economic news, good employment news, good domestic visits, etc, etc. They couldn’t let that happen, SOOOOOO suddenly they really cared that he went to France. That picture of the “leaders” was, as LL said, pure Potemkin.

He works in the background for the right causes, SOS Kerry went to Pakistan to support the children killed…..the MSM is blind, lazy and idiotic. This too shall pass. Glad Jon Stewart called out the phony leaders.

Now off to work, and to pick up our precious dog from successful surgery. When the surgeon called last night she said: “All is well.” We were thrilled. We had been quite scared for about a week, as a diagnosis came back from the pathologist, cancer; but the offending parts were successfully removed, and the surgeon really doubted that it was malignant.

We see you media. We see you.

That’s the thing, Nerdy. WE see it. Now we just have to get the rest of the US to wake up and realize they’re being manipulated. That’s the challenge of the decade. We need some massive nationwide campaign called “Wake Up America,” in which the media propaganda is called out, laughed at or vilified until every sleeping American finally ‘gets’ what game is being played on them.

Little recourse seen for Democrats on Social Security rule change
    By David Lawder

…The new legislative rule, pushed through with little notice last week,
would prohibit a routine transfer to the Social Security Disability
Trust Fund, which is expected to be depleted by late 2016.

Without an injection from the main Social Security retirement fund, the disability program would have to cut benefits by some 20 percent, only paying out what it can collect from payroll taxes.

Congress approved the last such “reallocation” transfer in 1994 after several in the 1980s under President Ronald Reagan.

Republicans say they passed the rule change to force reforms to the disability program, which they claim is rife with fraud and mismanagement. Democrats, unable to stop the shift, have called it a “stealth” move to cut benefits.

I heard Peter Welch (D-VT.) who is a deputy whip, on c-span this morning. I wanted to throw my boot through the TV. Such a weak performance full of capitulations (“Well we’ll have to work with the Republicans because they have the votes”). No strength, no outrage, no effective framing, no clear, forceful drawing of lines between the two visions.

Are you telling me that the DNC has yet to figure out how to train and coach their messengers to not completely squander their opportunities in front of a mic?

Welch is a good guy – I know that. But it’s way past time for the Dem’s to figure out how be effective and start turning things around. It was nauseating.

        • 80 99ts
          January 13, 2015 at 10:26 am

I don’t remember republicans saying they would have to work with the democrats when they had the votes! Quite the opposite

          • 81 57andfemale
            January 13, 2015 at 10:52 am

Exactly! Show some force, some outrage. Draw the line between what GOP is trying to do and what Dems want for the country, the middle class. Get some strong phrases. Say that their policies are destructive, will take away jobs and economic security. Praise PBO and what he has accomplished. Zip . This was the deputy whip, for God’s sake. I’m sick of the upper level power structure of the party still sounding so damned weak. I don’t get it, I just don’t.

The segment was about the Democratic agenda. When he got a question from a decent Dem about Keystone, Welch weakly said, “Well, the bills passed. It’s up to the President.” You weak jackass! A Republican would NEVER miss an opportunity like that to make the GOP look bad and make the Dems look good. It was awful.

As I said, Welch is a decent guy. He had good things to say about van Hollen’s proposal for middle class tax cuts (called “paycheck bonus” I believe), paid for by closing a few loopholes for the wealthy. Is there any earthly reason why Welch couldn’t have repeated that phrase, paycheck bonus? Over and over and over again until it starts to have some effect?

these are the things that drive me crazy.

    • January 13, 2015 at 10:06 am

Here’s another reason why voting matters. Why more then 36% of Americans ought to gotten out to vote and kept those dam Republicans from taking control of the Senate.

Four Alabama Congregations Hold Services After Churches Are Bombed

On January 13, 1957, three days after four black churches and two pastors’ homes were bombed in Montgomery, Alabama, the congregations held Sunday services amidst the debris.

The bombings, which injured no one but caused significant damage, came at a time of racial tension and civil rights progress in Montgomery. Less than a month before, a year-long boycott protesting racial segregation on city buses ended after achieving desegregation. Some local whites were threatened by this victory and reacted with acts of terrorism.

All four black churches bombed – Bell Street Baptist Church, Hutchinson Street Baptist Church, First Street Baptist Church, and Mt. Olive Church – had supported the bus boycott and the targeted pastors were civil rights leaders: Reverend Ralph D. Abernathy of First Street Baptist Church was …………………………… //
