A Tweet Or Two

Apparently, “apology” to MSNBC means, “I’m sorry if you were offended.” Such BS.

Antonio Weiss, the Wall Street banker who President Barack Obama had picked to be the third-ranking official at the Treasury Department, has asked that the president not resend his nomination to the Senate following a major backlash from progressive Democrats. Obama accepted the decision, which Weiss conveyed in a letter to the president over the weekend. But the Lazard banker will still join the administration in the position of counselor to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, which does not require Senate confirmation. Sen. Elizabeth Warren who came out strongly against the nomination, said that Weiss did not have enough regulatory experience and would be too deferential to the finance industry. Weiss and his supporters strongly rejected that notion, arguing that his views on regulation were very much in line with Warrren’s and that he had strong progressive credentials on taxes and other issues. He also never worked at one of the large “too big to fail” banks.

The majority of Catherine Jones’ 29 years have been spent in prison. Before that, they were spent languishing in the hell of sexual abuse at the hands of a family member. Catherine was only 13 when she plotted — with her 12-year-old brother Curtis — to kill their abuser as well as their father and his girlfriend, Nicole Speights, whom they thought were allowing it to continue. They became the youngest children in the country’s history to be charged as adults for first-degree murder. Facing the prospect of life in prison, they plead guilty to second-degree murder and were sentenced to 18 years in prison followed by probation for life. There was no trial.

There was no testimony. There was no opportunity to present the documentation from the agency later renamed the Department of Children and Families that showed welfare investigators found signs on more than one occasion that the siblings were being abused by a family member. That same family member had already been convicted of sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s daughter in 1993. So agency officials never had to explain how they could have so utterly failed a pair of young children. Children who felt so trapped, so alone and so victimized that they thought their only way out was through blood.

    Evening all.

Hello Ll. I can’t believe he is up for humiliation again, but so be it.

      • January 13, 2015 at 9:18 pm

I suspect that Willard (and his MSM/GOP supporters) believe that he has an even better shot in 2016 – with PBO out of the way, and no exciting Dem candidate, the media can help to suppress the Dem vote – just as they did in the midterms.

There will be no President Obama on the ballot to get people excited enough to vote, and with the economy doing well, and many of GWB/Clinton’s messes cleaned up by PBO, there would be no real impetus for folks to go out and vote.

          January 13, 2015 at 9:48 pm

This is why we need to come up with a charismatic candidate that will stand next to POTUS now and campaign on continuing PBO’s winning policies.

And, no, I don’t know who that candidate is.

If dems continue to distance themselves from Our President and look for the negatives in the economic numbers I don’t see how we will win.

          • January 13, 2015 at 9:52 pm

It is very unlikely that we will have a candidate that comes close to PBO in charisma….BUT, at the very least, the Dem candidate should REFUSE TO distance himself/herself from PBO. That’s the only way that person will beat the GOP nominee.

Haven’t any Russians noticed that Putin went mad a while back?

I have many other questions reading these tweets, but you already know what they would be. It’s all surreal.

JOB, many Russians are shielded from truth because they, too, are fed only propaganda. Those that do see how crazy he is probably feel they can’t do anything about it.

Tom Price hopes to reform Social Security in House budget
January 12, 2015 | Filed in: Tom Price.

WASHINGTON — Roswell Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Price intends to tackle big-ticket entitlement programs as the new chairman of the House Budget Committee — including Social Security.

In a speech at the Heritage Action for America “Conservative Policy Summit” on Monday, Price said he was excited to work with a GOP-led Senate to end the “muddled mess” of the last few years.

Under his predecessor, Paul Ryan, the House Budget included controversial changes to Medicare and Medicaid, but did not touch Social Security. Price hopes to change that this year:

“On the issue of Social Security, it has indeed been the third rail as Tim [Chapman, COO for Heritage Action] mentioned, and what I’m hopeful is what the Budget Committee will be able do is to is begin to normalize the discussion and debate about Social Security. This is a program that right now on its current course will not be able to provide 75 or 80 percent of the benefits that individuals have paid into in a relatively short period of time. That’s not a responsible position to say, ‘You don’t need to do anything to do it.’

“So all the kinds of things you know about – whether it’s means testing, whether it’s increasing the age of eligibility. The kind of choices — whether it’s providing much greater choices for individuals to voluntarily select the kind of manner in which they believe they ought to be able to invest their working dollars as they go through their lifetime. All those things ought to be on the table and discussed.”

    • January 13, 2015 at 8:42 pm

Yes, they have consequences. I said over at “my place” it’s something that many forget, sit at home instead of voting, and then complain the loudest when the consequences strike. The irony is that a lot of the Republican base (older, white, and often retired) are going to take it in the neck as well with this. Then again, maybe they should have realized that the candidate they were voting for statements about “doing away with the moochers on the taxpayers dime” was describing them.

Notice one of the choices not mentioned was “raise or eliminate the cap”.

Japa, we know that’s the simplest solution. So of course the GOP pretends that logical fix does not exist.

Before coming here, I opened the email from the White House about the President’s Broadband plan and first I was distracted by that handsome man when he walked into the room 🙂 then I focused on what he was saying and when I looked at the graph, I was shocked to learn that Los Angeles and San Francisco have such low bandwidth 😯

That man is a wealth of information and ideas!!!

    Here’s a great read from Smartypants. 🙂

    TITLE: Shame on Jake Tapper

// A few months ago, Chuck Todd finally found a reason to be embarrassed by the “game” in Washington. As I pointed out at the time, he didn’t get there because of birth certificates, or death panels, or accusations that a presidential candidate “palled around with terrorists.” No. What finally pushed Todd over the edge was that Democrats were reacting to Republican talk about impeachment.

But now Jake Tapper has one-upped Todd by going beyond embarrassment to being “ashamed” of the fact that the top American leadership was absent from the rally in Paris. I could not craft a response any more on point than what Paul Waldman wrote in response….

…What people like Todd and Tapper don’t seem to get is that this is exactly why so many Americans are dismissive of the media and cynical about politics. They live in a world that is all about “the game” of politics, symbolism, identifying who “won” a particular battle, and covering the horse race. As a result, their emotional reactions are all tied up in how those things play out.

But most Americans don’t really give a shit about all that. They want to know how the government is protecting us from a similar kind of terrorist attack, or what its doing that could affect our health care, or jobs, or our children’s education. These journalists don’t seem to think that kind of reporting is their job anymore. Shame on them! //

Progressing slowly as always, JG. 😀 I have a very ‘minimalist’ approach to exercise – do the minimum you can get away with while still patting yourself on the back that you exercised. I did however add one or two that I thought might be on your list (being mentally supportive, I thought) – balancing on one foot for 1 -1½ minute each side, and walking in a straight line heel to toe.

TOD you have got to read this Slate article on the Huckabees. It explains exactly why Mike Huckabee commented on the excellent parenting skills of PBO and FLOTUS. There’s this: ” Class resentment runs through their comments and writings.” And wait til you read how the residents of Arkansas thought about them living in the Gov’s mansion, truly priceless. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/first_mates/2008/01/shoots_bear_submits_to_husband.2.html

      January 14, 2015 at 3:04 am

The problem all of the GOP pundits have is that PBO has a marriage made in heaven – has a loving wife and wonderful children – no scandals. After so many years attacking any family group other than one with husband/wife and children, the GOP has lost it because the President exactly fits their definition of the “perfect family”. Suddenly they are accepting of divorce, single parents and second marriages. This will. of course, change at the end of 2016.

Yes because most of them have fraudulent and seriously misbehaving children they never anyone in politics would actually have a family that meets their standards. This is the REAL reason they hate the President and First Family. They are simply better people and the GOP?KLAN wingnuts resent it.
