Good Morning I was reading Nerdy’s last night’s post this morning and got “stuck” on the slang in the last two tweets. This is what it feels like to be totally out of it.

I woke up thinking about the comment Df’s friend made when she (Df) described her epic adventure at the president’s Phoenix speech. The friend said that Df was feeling “hope” again and I thought how beautifully that describes what PBO has always meant to us. In 2008, he brought us the hope that had long been ground into dust by GWB’s horrific management of international affairs and the economy. People who felt that hope were actually buoyed with a new energy and a sense that what they did counted in the world. Once our president was elected the GOP/Media/Koch Alliance did everything they could to destroy hope–obstructing his every action, pounding out 24/7 propaganda, fomenting racial tension–all in the name of destroying any illusions that we had a savior in our president and making us feel hopeless and defeated once again. Their final victory (in their eyes) was winning both houses of Congress in 2014, not to mention the majority of state houses. This was the golden opportunity to pound Americans into submission, quiescence, hatred, bigotry and hopeless division. I think PBO realized that after the 2014 election he not only had to get things done, he had to infuse a disheartened population with messages of hope once again. He had to make us feel that all things were possible and our future was bright. All of his speeches are based on optimism for the future, confidence in the American people and yes hope that our lives and the lives of our children will get better. Hope enrages the right and they will do everything in their power to discourage and demoralize us. It’s that hope, more than any specific policy, action or legislation, that we have to fight for as if our lives depended on it. Because, in fact, they do.

Here’s the link I tried to share last night. It’s two little boys saluting the President as he went by. Local8 showed it again this morning and the anchor said at the end that two of the three little boys also mentioned they would like to have a career being a SS agent so they could protect the president.

Beautiful image. TN, too often, those Americans who don’t live in the south form distorted stereotypes of a region riddled with racism and narrow-mindedness. The image of the two boys, as simple as it is, can be an education for many. Every state is a complex mixture of radical right and radical left and everything in between. The challenge we have as Americans is to see the similarities, not the differences. I think that single goal would do more to move this country forward than any other thing we could do.

Thanks for sharing this Ms.Tennessee Mountain Girl!! πŸ™‚ I loved it — what a wonderful Mom and grandparents to teach these young boys respect for the office. And kudos to the news channel in Tennessee in putting together a nice story.

      Thanks, Jackie.

    • January 10, 2015 at 11:02 am

      YES and YES Jackie…

Because of the President..i know that it is possible to defeat the big money…because of the President i know when we join hands and work and organize we can succeed….

That is why the lies and the distortions from the right and their handmaiden’s in the press have been so loud….the exacerbation of racism….the attack on workers…women’s…voting rights…

The DNC did not learn the lesson that PBO taught us…all those blue dog seats lost..because they did not learn the lesson…running away from the President…insulting the OBAMA Coalition on one hand and then asking us to vote for them…not understanding what a devastation voter suppression is…all those votes lost thru..purging..lost registration forms…voter ID laws….i do not hear the so-called progressive championing voters’ rights…

but the North Star will always be President Barack Obama….

Reading this, jg, it occurs to me that not only is PBO our Hope, we also are his. He has always known he gets only this one shot, at least as POTUS, and he knows it will change and come to an end. He is not a saviour, none of us here would lay that burden on him. That is a GOP illusion, because they have never seen a ‘politician’ who didn’t have an Achilles heel, who wasn’t in it for money or fame, IOW, they have never known a politician to have right motives and the Will not to be dissuaded by power, all the while surrounded by unspeakable corruption, pulling on their human nature to cave. PBO has always said it’s not about him, the GOP are all so self-absorbed they cannot fathom that he is there on behalf of We The People. He is an accomplished teacher, and he has stepped up to the task of teaching us our job, as citizens, how to use our voice, how to take the power WE were given, thus reaching ever toward a true democracy. We are not there yet, God knows, but PBO walks forward, ahead, holding the lamp of intelligence and justice, showing the way. We can choose to walk beside him, and we do. Gotta fly, TaiChi is ringing the bells…

Beautiful MP and totally true. He is a master teacher. It’s a beautiful thing to try to emulate, albeit poorly, in my classroom and occasionally it appears to work.

I know, Betsy, but at least we keep trying with our heart in the right place. Teachers touch the future, you know that. The children perceive more than we can grasp, which is why staying heart-centered, even when all else flops, we are anchoring the Light of the Future for them. ❀

This is what? His second or third arrest since becoming a murderer? As they say, ‘evil is as evil does.’

    • January 10, 2015 at 8:19 am

Jesus. Even if you exclude his murder of Trayvon, how the **** is this guy not in jail?

I am just as truly puzzled as you are, Chiparoo.

Any sane person or legal system recognizes that some people should not be amongst society.

        He is a perfect example.

He’s already in jail; he’s locked up in his own mind. Obviously he can’t live with himself and it is literally killing him.

Right this minute, it appears he is. Surely the woman involved won’t back out this time. Wonder if it is the same person as last time.

He comes from an influential, (moneyed) family that includes judges and lawyers who are able to pull strings and apply pressure so that his “get out of jail free’ card is continually updated. Someday he may cross the line and even his family will pull the plug. I don’t count on that happening any time soon unless he kills a white person in front of a lot of witnesses.

Because he now believes he is above the law. He knows exactly what happened the night he murdered Trayvon Martin, and he knows he was wrong, and he knows he will burn in hell. But he isn’t too worried about that, he’s more concerned with getting away with murder, and assault, and abuse, and, and, and, and. . .

I say this because I am from a very large family. I am number twelve of thirteen.
