      Congrats on #1 tnMTNgirl.

At yesterday’s daily press briefing, a reporter asked @PressSec if PBO would announce a federal structure for community college tuition similar to Tennessee’s, which is basically free. Josh Earnest declined to provide specifics for President Obama’s comments in Knoxville this week. @PressSec did mention that Tennessee has a GOP Governor and both Senators are GOP.

I am hopeful that this is true, since both @VP Biden and SLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden are attending this Knoxville event.

Is it true that there is no in-state tuition for Tennessee Community Colleges?

GM all. It is cold, loving it. Had the flu last couple days, still just a tad under the weather. But to top it off, late yesterday I was shoveling the snow that the plows had dumped at the bottom of our driveway and did something to my back. At work, but not sure for how long.

Other than that, the shootings in France do deserve coverage. The question is how much and how it is presented. And as so many of the tweets above indicate, an act of terrorism on our soil goes, for the most part, unreported or minimized.

By the end of today, 80% of the US will know about the Muslim terrorists in France. Maybe 10% will know about the NAACP bombing.

Hope you’re feeling better, japa. Don’t mess around with this flu – it’s nasty. If you have a fever, stay home.

I considered snow shoveling yesterday as my jumpstart to my 2015 fitness routine. But you have to be VERY careful with the first snowfalls of the year.

      Be well.

        January 7, 2015 at 11:36 am

Thank you. I am slowly feeling better. I know having the flu shot is no guarantee of not getting the flu. But I don’t remember a year with so many people who got the shot getting this sick. The shoveiling was fine until I got to the very end of the driveway. Being as macho as I think myself to be (wrongly it turns out) I felt I could handle that without a problem.

        • 32 57andfemale
          January 7, 2015 at 3:04 pm

The flu shot was a total bust this year. Not only that, but the shot itself (if you got the “senior” shot) had terrible side effects. That wouldn’t be so bad, if then you didn’t get the flu. Absolutely everyone I know who got the shot, had terrible problems with it. And this is the worst flu Mr. 57 and I have had since I had the Hong Kong flu in 1968.

ALWAYS be careful as you lift that snow. Keep your core stable, don’t reach too far in front of you or too high. Am I going to have to shadow you like I do Mr. 57 to stop you from being a macho stupid guy?

Why are we surprised at all at the Paris coverage?
Here are the rules US Media live by:

    1) Cover anything but President Obama, unless it is Bad news for PBO.

    2) In the absence of actual news, write about a Bush Belch or a Clinton Cough. Or make something up about 2016.

    3) Do not cover news about Black folks, unless you can make PBO look bad. Do Not support Black Lives Matter, because to media, well, they just don’t matter all that much. Rich white male Christian landowners, (sometimes slaveholders) were the Founding Fathers and as far as the media and the RW is concerned Nothing should change about who is in charge and who matters.

    4) Cover any and all news that prompt fear and hatred which may lead to War. Iran=scary Cuba=bad Muslims=coming to get you in your homes right now!!!! and so on.

    Too cynical?

I think people need to understand that you can say whatever you want to say, but be prepared for the consequences. If you poke a tiger or a snake, can you be surprised by the consequences when you’re bitten or killed? Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences. I feel sad for the senseless loss of life, but I’m also not going to champion the insulting material that the newspaper put out that offended millions of harmless people and their religious beliefs. Why can’t both sides respect each other?

I was born and raised in the black church and I’ve had my years of practicing Islam. I respect all religions because I believe people should be able to go about their business of praying to whichever god they want to. I don’t practice any religion now, and I don’t attend any type of religious services. People do a lot of things in the name of religion, both good and bad. I would never put one religion above another religion because people have died in the name of all religions.

I am so sad at the horror of the Bombing in CO at a NAACP. I am horrified at the Attacks in Paris against Satirists no matter how offensive those who objected to their type of craft might have felt.
I am disheartened on hear on the Radio and reading some posts claiming that this Paris attack is the worst in Europe since 711 in UK. Did these people forget the 100 plus killed by one guy in Sweden or Norway 2-3 yrs ago, the killings in Russia on trains, the school killings in Germany, how about the killings in Spain, etc.

Why is it that today when information and research are easily obtained through the Internet, so called Journalists make such idiotic claims?

Yet the airways… radio and TV …the newspapers…….etc….can spew hatred all day and night and not be held accountable for their impact on our psyche of our society at large….

and NOW we have a Klansman in the Congress…not that there are not other Klansman in high places….

A staffer for satirical French newspaper Charlie Hebdo said that masked attackers threatened her to gain access to its offices as they launched their attack Wednesday and claimed to belong to Al-Qaeda.

Corinne Rey, known as Coco, told French publication L’Humanite that she was “brutally threatened” by two armed men at the door of the newspaper’s offices after picking her daughter up from daycare.

“They wanted to enter, go up. I typed the code,” she said, as quoted by The Guardian. “They shot Wolinski, Cabu … it lasted five minutes … I had taken refuge under a desk.”

Rey was referring to two of the newspaper’s prominent cartoonists, who were among the 12 people killed in the attack.

“They spoke French perfectly … claiming to be Al-Qaida,” she said of the assailants, as quoted by the Guardian.

Other French media reported that the assailants told an eyewitness to “tell the media that we are from Al-Qaida in the Yemen,” according to The Guardian.

Fox Spews reported that Kelly Ayotte told them PBO wants to release 30 Gitmo detainees to Yemen.

    Why is she lying ?

This is a RW talking point. “Guantanamo detainee releases make us all unsafe.”
      A LIE, of course.

Invading other countries to steal their natural resources is what has made us unsafe.

PBO may very well be planning to release 30 detainess to their homes in Yemen. What that has to do with Paris today? ZERO!!!!

My industry is all “atwitter” over some very good news. On FHA loans all FHA borrowers are required to pay for the FHA insurance on the loan to cover the cost of a potential default. In the past few years this insurance premium went up to a very high 1.35% of the loan amount as HUD was struggling to stay in the black due to the high number of FHA defaulted loans. This made it more expensive than other conventional products. Now that defaulted loans are on the decline with increased employment, etc. the President is going to announce tomorrow in Phoenix a reduction all the way down to .85% of the loan amount. !!

Some NYPD officers have a ton of time on their hands now that they’ve virtually given up on arresting people, so naturally New York’s finest have resorted to everybody’s favorite work-avoidance tactic: dicking around.

CBS New York reports that an episode of “horseplay that got out of hand” landed a Kensington officer in the hospital with a head injury on Monday morning. Though the incident was initially reported as an officer falling out of a stationary vehicle, surveillance footage shows the cop gleefully riding on the hood of a squad car driven by another officer. But when the car comes to a sudden stop, the officer flies off the hood and smacks his head on the pavement
