        Congrats on your gold! ⭐

I know what they are whispering to:

Mexico – Don’t mention the new Congress that was sworn in today.

POTUS: Boehner got reelected but he is very weak. No control over the T-baggers.

Good afternoon Chips and TOD. I love those snow scenes from the previous thread. I have been changing my computer background often with the different scenes. The sun is shining here in SoCal with temperature expected to be in the 70s. πŸ™‚

VC, they can probably both speak passable Spanish/English, but the intricate language of diplomacy requires a high level ability to translate nuance and complex sentence structure perfectly. The translators ensure that there are no subtleties missed between them. You can also think more clearly about the substance of what you’re saying if you don’t have to spend so much time trying to understand the other person’s word usage.

Good to hear from MO’M on this important issue. I will be looking to see what all the dems have to say.
Andrew Cuomo banned fracking in NY so I hope he gets himself on the right side here as well.

Vicki, I can see the media Asking only hysterical Republicans what they think, so I doubt we’ll hear from Dems unless they issue statements or use social media. If Schumer announced over the weekend that there were enough Democratic votes to sustain the president’s veto, then they’re probably on his side.

A very brief hello TOD, then I’m off the air. Woke up with a migraine too early, have been managing that and it is now fading. These darn things are new to me in recent months – adding to my compassion for those who have had to deal with them. Back later in if I feel up to it. Beautiful photos of Bo and the WH – thank you. For all experiencing the polar vortex, just remember: climate change is a hoax, created to stop bigoil and the fossil fuel fossil crowd. I truly hope it it not too late to turn things around. 7.5 billion humans is a lot of body heat, breathing out CO2, as well. Love and Light. ❀

Saw the west coast and AZ weather reports on the previous thread (and MTMarilyn’s on the one before), so thought I’d chime in on weather conditions in Ventura county.

    Weather.com says it’s 78F.

This is NOT right. It was 61F this morning before the sun came up, felt much warmer than that because there is no humidity in the air (therefore, no “clammy” effect).

This is the same weather that I complained about a year ago, and guess what — when the jet stream abandons the US west coast, the Midwest and Northeast suffer Arctic temps.

    From yesterday…

    • January 6, 2015 at 3:59 pm

I agree Arapaho. It is freezing one day and hot the next here in Arizona. It is beautiful today — not a cloud in the sky, but will be overcast somewhat when our President comes on Thursday. We have so many out with colds and flu due to the rapid changes in temperatures.

That warmer H is over western Montana, too. We had 1/2 ft of snow on Sunday and today it is 44. This is crazy. Stay safe everyone.

I DETEST THE WAY THE MAJORITY IN THIS COUNTRY SPEAK AGAINST PEOPLE FROM MEXICO…IT IS SOOOO WRONG. I THINK ALL PEOPLE WHO KNOCK DOWN IMMIGRANTS SHOULD BE TRANSPORTED TO A COUNTRY WHERE THEY DON’T KNOW THE LANGUAGE…THEN THEY CAN BE STRANGERS…UNSURE OF THEMSELVES AND UNCERTAIN…MAYBE SOMEONE WILL SPIT ON THEM OR PAY THEM 10 CENTS AN HOUR FOR BACKBREAKING WORK…LIKE SCRUBBING THEIR TOILETS BECAUSE THEY ARE SOOOO FULL OF..’FILL IN THE BLANK!’ DON’T GET ME STARTED BECAUSE…AS AN IMMIGRANT ADVOCATE I CAN GET RATHER INDIGNANT WITH RACISTS!..I WON’T STAND FOR IT!…OUR ‘EQUALIZER’ PRESIDENT IS GOING TO BE KICKING SOME FILL IN THE BLANK THIS YEAR…YOU GO DENZEL BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!!! Here’s what I want Sue. As an AA, I want the racists to realize the Western half of the US used to be MEXICO, not Ireland or Germany or Russia or Poland. M E X I C O. I don’t want a 3/5 compromise like they did with AA folk. I want my Latino brothers and sisters and all other immigrants to have their “papers” served up like a McD happy meal. They drive up, hand over required documentation, put their fingers on a fast scan, get background results and if cleared, server says Congrats – You r now an American citizen. Drive up to the next window to pay and pick up your papers.

        January 6, 2015 at 4:27 pm

Idon, the day that “racists” see anything is the day the US becomes a more fully evolved and enlightened country.

    • 30 jackiegrumbacher
      January 6, 2015 at 4:26 pm

Sue, I don’t believe the “majority” in this country speaks against people from Mexico or elsewhere. I believe it’s the loutish, generally ill-educated, ignorant people who do and they manage to shout out their hatred and bigotry in very loud voices. One of the reasons why I pushed for an Hispanic Initiative in our community is that I wanted people to know and appreciate the beauty of various Latino cultures. When people attend cultural events and celebrations, they soon see that everyone they were fearful/disdainful of is a human being like themselves.

        January 6, 2015 at 5:18 pm

Sorry for posting about the weather here.

No gloat from me, as I would prefer our usual weather cycle — some overcast and some rain during our rainy season. Except for the succulents, my patio plants are very unhappy with the low humidity — I’m watering them now as if it were the middle of a hot spell during the summer.

Anyone biased against Latino laborers in the US should watch “Fools Rush In,” a movie from the late 1990s with Salma Hayek and one of the guys from the “Friends” TV show. She was adorable, loved how she tossed a coin out her car window for good luck when crossed the Arizona/Nevada stateline (she and the guy lived in Las Vegas).

Also think about how boring and bland life in PA would be with only polka and scrapple as cultural touchstones (no guacamole, no enchiladas, tamales or tacos).

Now I’m making myself hungry, and not for scrapple, LOL.

Wish he’d plow and salt the side streets. He can multi-task, can’t he?

I loathed Daley, but it was always hilarious in an election year: the streets would be knee-deep in salt, just in case. Of course we were ignored all the rest of his term.

I would like to know how the Chicago bid is faltering. He has spent most of his life in Chicago, his politcal career was in Chicago. I will not be happy if his library ends up in New York.

            • 46 57andfemale
              January 6, 2015 at 4:24 pm

It has something to do with the U of C not exactly owning the land it used in its proposal. There are two pieces of land – one belongs to the Chicago Park District and I forget who the other belongs to. So the U of C bid went to the bottom of the pile.

If the effing Chicago Park District can squander taxpayer money on fancy jumbotrons for Soldier Field, then it can damn well step in and fix this ownership issue for the presidential library. It belongs in Chicago.

I think the main library will end up in Chicago. I think the foundation has a few concerns with the proposals from Chicago, but In the end the city will work something out.

3rd lawsuit filed against Missouri Prosecutors.

A bar complaint against St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch and Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Kathi Alizadeh and Sheila Whirley has been filed regarding the handling of the Ferguson grand jury.

Attorney and former judge James R. Dowd and attorney Robert Ramsey reviewed the grand jury transcript – including evidence, witness interviews and testimony – before a group of seven citizens and attorneys – led by Christi Griffin, founder of the Ethics Project – filed an 11-page complaint with the Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Griffin says the complaint focuses on more than 15 Rules of Professional Conduct the group believes were violated,

That’s right VC. When they do make these “toys” of POC, they never make as many as they manufacture of the white counterparts. Try finding a Diana Ross doll or a Martha Reeves (of the Vandellas). My sister-in-law has both. She made sure that her daughter, who was a huge Spice Girls fan got a Scary Spice doll because she knew that there wouldn’t be as of those manufactured as the others.

I myself made sure I got the Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) Star Wars action figure for this very reason. I got the light saber an errythang!
