I am in that “so happy for this wonderful group of sensible, sensitive young people that inspire us seniors to keep faith in the real America”. I too am so happy to see that PBO is still our strong Leader. In this my 79th year, I follow “the Obama Diary” daily but can’t for the life of me recal what “TOD” means. Help me and keep up the great work. Thanks again for keeping us w/o newspapers and fox tv informed about issues in the real world. Ms. “B”
Good morning, RanMan, and congratulations on First! Good morning, Chipsticks, and all good things to you and Danny the Darling One, today and everyday. Echoing RanMan’s gratitude for another day of PBO in charge. These photographs are magnificent. FLOTUS! Always heartwarming, uplifting, dazzling and dear.
@99ts I was tiptoeing in ‘cuz it’s early yet in my part of the world. That no-count Knoller guy needs to count the genuine heartfelt grins, smiles, and eyes alight with joy which we see every time our beautiful Obama family steps out into the public space. I’m slow to thank you @99ts for the wonderful view from your home, of the skyfull of silver birds and whirly birds transporting PBO during his visit. I’d missed those and it was another 2014 highlight that meant so much. Happy New Year to you!
Our pictures were a poor excuse for seeing the President – but it was the closest we got – and it gave us much enjoyment. Mr 99 rarely gets excited about anything but he much enjoyed photographing the planes – especially AF1 which we weren’t expecting to see – just hoping 🙂 So pleased you enjoyed them.
They are a delightful couple, and it is a joy to see them enjoying their vacation. And Knoller – I am truly amazed that he is paid to count golf days, vacation days and date nights – what a job!
Me, too, @bella2758! They deserve every speck of joy and fun and relaxation and comfort that they can find, don’t they? Hope your holidays were enjoyable too, and that you have a lovely fun healthy 2015.
Morning RM. Congrats on furst. bt must have posted and fallen asleep immediately after that. … Or mebbe she picked up a fresh fight with that darned desk again…
Morning. The Obamas look wonderful, relaxed and fully rested. I hope they can keep the aloha spirit going in the bleak winter cesspool of the DC.
Last night Nerdy posted a tweet that quoted PBO saying that it was the fourth quarter and he was going to ‘run out the clock.’ Can someone explain to the (um) ignorant exactly what that means and how it’s a good thing?
Last quarter of the football game; he’s going to control the ball & field of play as much as possible (play offense) and run up the score. He plans on doing nothing but WINNING on our behalf…
Alycee, thank you from responding from your hospital bed–that’s above and beyond the call. I’m glad you explained it because I thought it meant that the team that was winning just kind of strung out the clock so as not to lose in the final quarter. You gave it a whole new dynamic meaning.
Thanks from me too, Alycee – I had no idea what the phrase actually meant, but assumed it had something to do with playing hard till the buzzer goes off. Your explanation is far more energizing! Hope you’re feeling better. 🙂
Pope Francis has named 20 new cardinals, including churchmen from Tonga, Ethiopia and Myanmar.
Fifteen of the new appointees are under 80, making them eligible to enter a conclave to elect the Pope’s successor.
Pope Francis said the appointment of cardinals from 14 countries from every continent in the world showed the Vatican’s “inseparable link” with Catholic Churches around the world.
They will be formally installed on 14 February.
The list of names includes five retired bishops who will join the College of Cardinals but are over 80 and so cannot take part in a papal election.
He played 59 times for England and won six Premier League titles with Manchester United. Now Phil Neville can add a new achievement to the many earned during his long career as a professional footballer.
For at the age of 37, Neville has – for the first time in his life – made a cup of instant coffee.
Not that he found it easy. He had to telephone his wife for help.
Neville told BBC radio listeners of his panic when he asked a journalist who had come to his house on December 22 to interview him whether he would like a drink.
“When he replied coffee, my heart sank because I thought: ‘how do I do that’,” recalled Neville, “I ran into the kitchen and I thought I am not going to poison this guy so I rang my wife. The problem I then had was how much milk to put in. I forgot to ask my wife how much. To be fair, he [the journalist] is still alive.
Chips, in reply to the end of last thread: I’ve been in the hospital since Monday due to allergy induced asthma with a side helping of pneumonia. I bear tons of responsibility here because although I wore supplemental oxygen at my party, I was too vain to wear an allergen mask (had two minor episodes at the party). On Sunday, I had a very severe exposure to allergens and that pushed me over the edge. So here I sit, hooked up to IV antibiotics and steroids, not to be released until I’m clear. Then they are going to put me on a 3 – 6 month course of oral steroids… Meanwhile, I missed my flight to St Kitts last Tuesday, and I won’t be going to Florida this Wednesday… but, Thank God I’m still here… Life 101…
Oh heck Alycee, what an ordeal – I am so sorry you’ve been through all this, what a horrible experience. And missing your flight to St Kitts is too much. But relieved you’re recovering and being looked after, wishing you the very best Alycee, get your strength back, get healthy – and take good care of yourself.
OH NO!! Sounds absolutely dreadful and terrifying to me…hope you’re feeling better very soon, Alycee! I hope that you can get a refund for your St. Kitts trip and go down there and enjoy the island at a later time….feeling 100%!
Take good care, @Alycee . So sorry you must miss such good times, and hoping the time will pass quickly and you will get lots of great care and be back strong and healthy for most of 2015 and beyond.
Morning TOD, Chips and Alycee. Hi neighbor. So sorry to read about your ordeal. I’m often late in finding out about folks here, but know that you are in my prayers for a speedy recovery. And keep in your spirit that trip.
Alycee, I’m so sorry to hear about your ordeal. What’s important now is that you concentrate on your recovery. I pray that you have a full and speedy recovery. When you get well soon, make sure you share with us your trip to St. Kitts. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Please keep us posted on your recovery, Alycee. Asthma + pneumonia = serious health problem. You have had your flu shot already, haven’t you? Trusting that you are getting the best of care and will get out of the hospital feeling like yourself before too much longer.
I hope you get better soon Alycee! I have always had allergies and had asthma as a child. When I get a chest cold, I’m screwed. Take care and I hope you get well soon!
Morning TOD. Amk I liked your post on the last thread about child that picked “puppy” as something that people need to live.
Hope all are having a lovely Sunday! As predicted it is now colder than a witches T__ in a brass brazier (as my old boss would say). But soon I’ll have a fire in the wood stove and a cuppa Joe. 🙂
good morning TOD, Happy Sunday ~ sicker than sick, crummy cold refuses to leave me ;( won’t stick around breathing on you all, just wishing everyone a good day, and coming work week 🙂
Morning, sherijr:) Did I read that you were inspired by what I wrote the other day? That made me so happy! That something I said would have that effect and make you want to change a habit….was awesome for me! You know that I’m with you 110% and will help any way I can if you’re really going to give this a go again. So happy:) 🙂 Feel better now, though…(perfect time to stop……)

Moooooooorning Nancie!!
I must be morally third – gm USA – beautiful day in my world – not too hot, not too cold – sprinkling of rain in the early hours
The southern half of the country however, is burning – reminds me that much as I hate the floods they are preferable to fire
O dear Nancie came in while I was typing – guess I’ll leave the counting to Mr Knoller
🙂 Gooooood evening 99ts!
gm Ms Chipps – I think it’s almost time for the land of Nod – being retired is very tiring.
🙂 Sweet dreams 99ts, see ya later!
Look like somebody enjoy themselves on their Christmas vacation. And I hope they did.
